And some Bretonnian men at arms-

Some night Goblins. Need to be finished.

The Ultra's are looking good, a real mix of old and new, and conversions!
And the gobbo's are spot on. Nice work.

Re: Sparda's Log- Ultramarines, Orcs, and others

Sometimes I feel like I'm just showing these to Eltanko...

But seriously, I thank you for commenting after nearly all of my posts.

Been distracted a bit, but got all 18 black orcs nearly done. 70 more to go!

    Poor pic here-

What I really like is the champion in this bunch. I put on some white teeth/markings and the effect really makes him pop out. Might be doing it to the entire unit, what do you guys think?
The red on these guys doesn't look like it has much depth, but I assure you it does.

And some of what I've been distracted by-

    1/35, Tamiya.

Detroit Lions finished 2-14. An improvement over last year. I say give them 2 years for a winning season, but I'm optomistic.

As always comments and criticism welcomed.

The ultramarine's are amazing, (as is the rest of your work) but the very first pic of the ultra is immense, well done, keep up the good work

    Hey Sparda

I only comment because I really enjoy your stuff, and I know how much it helps keep you going when you get comments

Great stuff as usual, I love black orcs and yours look great. Love the armour, they are beasts. Nice to see some WW2 stuff aswell, halftrack looks very nice.

    ElTanko

p.s I support the Bucs, 3-13, so I share your pain, though better than your 0-16 last year! For us it's a "building season" so it's been said!! Roll on the superbowl next year then!!

I only started painting again about a week or two ago so here are the results-

Perry spear men, will be using these as pikes maybe. The spears are shorter than I thought they would be so I may just put them on the shelf. Only a test so still needs some work.

C & C welcome, especially on the new bases. I really like them more than the sand ones.

Re: Sparda's Log- Ultramarines, Orcs, and others

On the 40k front- traded the Ultramarines for Black Orcs. Kind of regret it because I now want to get back into it. So, my choices are IG, SM or Tyranids. what do you guys think? To not keep this update boring here is a guardsman I painted up for the fun of it.

    And some more black orcs-

Got the armor and metal done on 4 more, will post when I get everything else on them finished.

    Trygons do look pretty epic....

So anyways took me a while to get the (bad) pictures. I rebased the entire unit-

(with flash due to basement, they do not look pink in real life).

    (without flash)

    New guys.

    1/72 Russians. Its my log.

    WIP NG boss.

I will get better pics when I have something other than Black Orcs to post.

So now some questions. How should I run the Black Orcs in the new edition? I was planning on fielding them in 2 35 man units but would I be better suited to a single 50 man unit?

mostly people around here seem to use cheap rank and file troops like regular orcs or goblins to form hordes or provide rank bonus.

Black orks an other elites are mostly used in smaller units (20/25) to provide PUNCH (and I don't mean the alcoholic variant..... although Black orks that give you punch would be cool! )

But there is the Epic nature of a horde of black orcs to contemplate ... Sheer intimidation

Time to run out and buy regular Orcs then.

Got a test model of the Knights. I will be adding these via DOW to add a bit of hitting power. I would have gotten Boar Boyz but i'm sick of giving dwarfs rerolls to hit.

I think if I paint some more brown horses I'm going to have to paint the leather black. As is the brown got drowned out a bit. I also think the horses face could use more definition. This is a result of me using cruddy brushes. Other than that I like how it turned out.

    nice work.

the only drawback with these kinds of 'galopping'cavalry is the stick portruding out from the ground connecting the hoves with the base.

Although the GW horse models have been hit and miss regardig looks, they have always been able to disguise these 'sticks' as tufts of grass or boulders.

i like the idea of dogs of war... its a shame the DOW are no longer all that 'official' It was/is a great oportunety to paint and field som other miniatures without starting yet another army..

do you use existing DOW troop/stats or do you make them up?
    im curiuos

I use the old rules of the GW site. DOW do need to come back. Maybe not as an addition to other armies but as a stand alone army. (Being a bit of a hypocrite their aren't I?) Its fine though because I don't game as much as paint and even when I do play its not with anyone who really cares as long as a good game is played.

A bit more progress. Did some Night Goblins archers.

Chose red instead of blue to fit in more with the Orcs and because all of my blue dried up. I think it works. Not my best but will do for gobbos. Seeing the moldlines also, oh well.

    So, whats up next?
    6 Knights
    12 Spearmen
    10 more archers
    35 Black Orcs
    2 Orc heroes

I will get some nids...eventually....I promise.

    Thank you!

    So got the archers complete.

I'm happy with these guys. They look great as a unit and took under 3 hours for the entire regiment. I will be repainting my other Night Goblins hoods and rebasing them, will also be rebasing all the other orcs. What I want to do though is do some work with the original orc unit. They never perform in combat with the dual hand weapons and I don't like the way they look so I'm going to order some bits to give them HW and shield and also increase the unit size.

maybe you could get some small extra details in with those goblins Just to make them look less.... ' the same' those mini's al have virtually all in the same pose, they now nearly look line a uniform unit, like, dare I say... HIGHELVES!!

Don't get me wrong, the Goblins are done well, especially in such short time span, a skill worthy of praise on it own, but is you have them painted that fast, you could actually be left with some spare time to ' individualise some of the gobbo's?
    It will be worth it!
A friend of ine did this with his gobbo's and it gave them a really nice diverse look.

anyways, nice work, looking forward to seeing the rest of the greenskins!

also wondering how the conversion of the orks with 2 handweapons will work out!

That is a great idea. I'm going to be honest I put minimal effort into this unit and while I think it looks good as a unit it is lacking individuality. Will add some checkers etc. next time I paint.

Was painting for a while but didn't take pictures, here they are now-

Got two more knights painted, still got to do the shields.

This is kind of what I am thinking with the shields.

Orc warboss. Needs shield, weapon and little dude.

    Goblins with spears.

Got some red on the Musicians hand, doh!

Night goblins with checkers. Adds more color but I'm not doing it on more then half of the unit.

Looking at the Halbrediers makes me want to redo the shields.

My friend wanted me to paint his empire for him. So in the next few days there will be about 40 spears, 20 handguns, 5 knights and a Cannon, blus some dwarfs. With the Orcs and Goblins I want to rebase my Arrer boyz and eventually get the orcs with HW and shields done. The only painting for the O&G will be some spider riders and maybe some characters.
