Re: The Neon Inquisitor Progress log

@ Frowbakk: Glad to see the details were noticed. It is part of the reason it took so long to get these painted.

@ Natner: Thanks for the comment. The Sisters have not been forgotten they just suffer from 35$ troops choices with no easy modification possibilities.

It took me a depressingly longer time to finish the Seraphim squads for a total of almost 2 and a half weeks. However by the end of it I was so ready to paint something non-sister I was able to paint my Elite's Inquisitor/Alcolyte and my Eversor assassin.

So, here is Galatia and the Golden Wrath.

Next, it was on to paint the tanks and a squad of Celestians both of my Canoness figures as well as the tank pilots and loader.

First up it is Barbara the exorcist player with her loader and the immolator pilot. Of all of the figures' hair I think Barbara's came out the best.

Then it is Zoot with her blessed weapon 'Grim Salvation'. I also painted the underside of her sword with a little design, but forgot to get a picture of it, so I will upload it later. The badge I painted on her left sleeve will be repainted when I get a chance so that the tear drop shape is red.

And finally the last squad of infantry, the elite Celestian body guard for my last canoness: Bethany and the Last Deliverance. I am using Bethany's power hammer as an eviscerator when the 'what you see is what you get' Nazis are not around.

I finally had to concede defeat though as I had no time to finish my tanks and had to take them like this. I was okay with it because I had to do at least three colors on them both, but still very disappointing I could not finish them in time.

Re: The Neon Inquisitor Progress log

WARNING this next post is a bit of a rant:

Luckily it did not matter because whoever was judging paint on my army did not bother to look at the it.
Do not get me wrong, I had fun at the tournament. It just soured the moment I saw my paint score.
I thought it was going to be okay because all of the scores applied to the army bulk (80%) and the two tanks did not make up 20% of my army by far.
The score I received made me think the judge took a glance checked the mediocre boxes and went to have lunch.

Apparently hand painted details are not in my army. Things like purity seals with a different red letter at the start of more t90% of them, hand painted names on each Sister Superior and all other characters' bases, hand painted designs on each pistol holster, (which strangely most sisters have), and sword case are not hand painted details.

On basing I did not get points for special details on the larger bases. Having no large bases in this army I am not quite as angry, but having a big ass lion statue head made out of green stuff on the base of my canoness seems like a special detail to me.

Then on conversions I got a minor, with major, (the next highest), being "the army has some difficult conversions that use things such as putty, plastic card, drilling, sawing, minor sculpts, etc. This could also apply to the entire army having very well done multi-kit conversions...". Extreme, (the highest), is written as; "The army has some extreme conversions, which could be: a scratch built conversion or sculpt of an entire model, a large amount of models with difficult conversions (see above), or the entire army is extremely converted."
Now seeing as the entire army is metal and no two figures look exactly alike in model scheme, I built an Evesor assassin out of green stuff a head, gun and back pack, building an arm out of green stuff as well as cutting apart multiple jump backs for my Jump canoness, (who also has a sword with its name modeled on to it), using plastic card to create the upper portion of my immolator, and coverting a Dark elf into an Inquisitor all fall under minor conversions.

This is also leaving out some of the other painting scores I was screwed on.

Regardless of this I was still okay when I was talking to some of the folks running the event...

...Until one of them had the audacity to tell me painting was part of the hobby. The entire time he condescendingly told me about the level of painting and all work people put into there armies who go to grand tournaments, I fought and barely won over the urge to shout; Really?! Painting is part of the hobby?! I was wondering what I spent the last month and a half doing." Converting and painting are about the only part of the hobby I am good at.

Not knowing what other people received on their paint scores tempers my anger a little, but if anyone got over 4 points over mine on their army appearance I call shanagens.

Re: The Neon Inquisitor Progress log

hey there. I totally know how you feel, I was given 0 (zero) points for painting in a tourny once.
I had slaved for 2 months painting up my cadian infantry company (apx 100 minis + 4 tanks) but i had only undercoated their bases with brown (at 3am the night before the tourney). The judge just glanced at my army and said "too bad you didn't base them" leaved me dumbfounded. Such things totally suck...

Anyway, these are some very nice Sisters you've made, I'm soooo stealing some of your ideas for my own SoB army.

Keep it up, and don't let The Man get you down.

Whilst I deteste the battle sister power armour design, I love the sculpting work that has gone into this army. I especially admire the face sculpts. I myself have been sculpting for a bit, and I am yet to get female faces right.

Anyways, balls to them judges. Pure half-arsed douchebaggery on their account. I would not stop here at getting this army out there. Enter other competitions with this army. It deserves better.

No, his model does not look better then the Forge World version. Not even close.

Re: The Neon Inquisitor Progress log

@Dr. Drake:Thanks, glad to hear some of it is worth stealing. Sounds like you had it even worse off than I did with judges.

@terribletrygon: Not to worry, this is my only army as of right now, so it will be entered in pretty much anything I play.

Updates on the painting will be fewer and likely farther between because I will be working on some sculpting projects I had put on hold trying to get this army finished.
Right now I am working on turning a wood elf spellsinger into a farseer to use as an objective.
While I will be working on finishing up the tanks there are some things I think I will do to improve the sister superiors in my army.

I have been working some more on the Exorcist, but at this point it does not look a whole lot different than when I last showed it, so I am posting some pictures of one of the objective markers i have been working on instead.

I figure every Witch Hunter would be after an Eldar Farseer. I plan on putting some seals of containment, (purity seals), on her once the armor sculpting is done and maybe some chains as well. I am trying to work the branches into some sort of wraith bone growth.

Just a small update on the Exorcist to keep this thread limping along. I have been working on the stone parts of the extra armor and the parchment. I decided to paint the stone parts of the exorcist as green marble. I think it turned out okay, but I am wondering if I should add scratches to it.

Re: The Neon Inquisitor Progress log

The Exorcist is completed, so here is 'Barbara and the Music machine'. It took me longer than I would have liked but the waiting made me love it all the more. Plus I was able to get into the mindset of the character background I want to create.

Next up is to finish the Immolator.

    And then more assassins.

I really like the extra armoured panels you've attached to either side on top at the front and back (you know what I mean) - they really bulk it out and make it look like AV13. Nice work.
