    Dwarves from the Wyrmrock

    Log No. 7
    Tale of Fantasy Painters
    Dwarves, Dragonhunter Theme
    3000+ points

    Dear log!
You will kep track of my deeds for the tale of fantasy painters.
I have a dwarf army, mainly classic models, reinforced with a few plastics from the skull pass box and some miners, which I find are acceptable sculpts.

The theme for this army is something like a dragonhunters/killers theme. I found red and blue to be very nice colours for the classics and fittingly dwarves hate and kill dragons as often as they can find them. Dragons hoard gold and gems, something which dwarves can barely accept.
The theme will show in colours and banners. Some minor conversions, such as a dragon standard, bearing a dragons head, two warmachines resembling dragons will underline this theme.

The list consists only shows basic points so far, or rough guesses for the heroes. It may change over the next year. Also I will get some more minis from a friend, so that there will be additions.

    The list this far:
    • HEROES
    • Lord: aprox. 200
    • Runelord: aprox. 200
    • Runesmith: aprox. 100
    • Engineer: aprox. 100
    • Thane: aprox. 100
    • Thane: aprox. 100
    • CORE
    • Warriors, 20 - 185
    • full command, shields
    • Warriors, 20 - 185
    • full command, shields
    • Thunderers, 20 - 305
    • full command
    • Crossbowmen, 18- 241
    • full command
    • Miners, 21 -270
    • full command
    • SPECIAL
    • Longbeards, 10 - 170
    • full command
    • Ironbreakers, 15 - 225
    • full command
    • Slayers, 10 - 110
    • Cannon 100
    • Cannon 100
    • Stone Thrower 85
    • RARE
    • Flame Cannon 140
    • Gyrocopter 140

    Total: 3056

A pic of what I have:

A test mini to follow soon.

Comments on the list more than welcome, offers of a dragons head just as well

    Cheers

Looking forward to those painted up. Especially like the fact, that you have both cannons Bob Olley sculpted for Metal Magic around 1990.

    Re: Dwarves from the Wyrmrock

    Thanks for looking in guys!

Bob, its red and blue mainly, with assorted browns.
The warriors get a lighter blue, a bit like rebel uniforms. A red stripe on the sides of the jackets, pants and gloves keeps it coherrent.
Elites get the deeper shades of red and blue. Youll see.

Welf, these machines are lovely. One is incomplete. It will be turned into a stone thrower.
Geiler Dungeon Crawl bei Euch! So macht zocken Spass! Was frn System wird denn da gespielt?

    Ok, pics.
Test scheme warriors. Next batch will look a bit cleaner, as I improved my technique:

And the rest of them wip:

Hope you like them. I surely do.
    Leave comments! Or dont...

    They look really good

I really like the skin, and the beards look great.

I also really like the red stripe down the arms, it will tie them in really well with the rest of the army once it's all painted.

I have a soft spot for classic dwarves, and your painting does them justice!

    Good luck with the tale

Got to agree with the Doctor - you just can't help but love these little guys! Looking fantastic already - and with every model you complete, you're shaming me into pulling my old Dwarves from storage and finally getting around to painting them....

Good Luck with the 'Tale - can't wait to see more of your work

Thanks. Yeah the beards are what defines a dwarf, and they always catch alot of attention. Mine included!
I hope the stripes work out in the end.

Thanks man! Well, yes, light blue. Might be a bit unusal with dwarves but I always wanted to paint something blue. Now the stunties have to suffer this urge.

Now, this and the fact I went for the blue scheme bugs me a bit already. The classics have so much character that it is almost a shame to make them an army by colour. When I started them back in the nineties I gave every single dwarf a different colour, to pick out their traits, so to say. For example, there is a thunderer who looks like some old hunter, including the hat and the pipe hanging from his lip. SO he HAD to be green, with hat painted in nice hare fur. All this will be lost by tying them into one big army. Dont know what this will lead to...

Thanks, the tale will definately keep me motivated to finally doing this. As said, most of them dwell for ten to fifteen years on my shelf.

Summers gone, best time of the year for fantasy model painting on the doorstep! As I am treating my Orcs and Goblins with ignorance again my shorties will get all the love. And my Orks (40k), and my Chaos SM. And my Marines. And my little SpaceHulk project.
And I will end up in front of the TV freezing my a$$ off...

    Update very soon!

BTW, anybody an idea where to get a dragons head? Not too big, shall end up as standard (BSB).

    Cheers

    Update

To catch up with my goals for the tale I had to pick some point heavy units to paint this month. So my choice fell on the king, lord, whatever we call it.
It is King Kazador. Repaint has already begun.

Lucky basterd that I am, I got my hands on a dragons head. I need it for my BSB, as to be seen in following pic. A bit of modelling and some details to add, then slap some paint on, and off we go.

    Thanks for looking in!

I love the skin on the dwarves.
The dragon head does seem to be a bit too big though.

All your dwarves look great. That standard bearer has arms of steel! I'm sure that the dwarves have some rune that makes things lighter

The head still makes me scratch my head

If only it were that easy. I like the head, but the size... Someone recommended to cut the ears off or such. It would help I guess. As long as Im out of GS, I wont do anything about it anyway.

Ok, as in the tale, update pics. The warriors are done, as well as the longbeards. They are only nine yet, as their standard bearer is the BSB.
Oh, and the good King Khazador is done aswell. I will do his base this WE.

WIP for this month are Bugmans Rangers. This pic is horrible. Bugman is done except the base, but he does look aweful. Like wip himself... Im debating to repaint his gloves, brown for a better colour balance overall. Opinions?

Chose greens and torquoises for them, they are rangers after all. Plus its fantasy. I simply felt like it.

Also in the pipe: Ironbreakers. Almost done.
