Re: "Oh god that cant be right" ebay auction thread

    I like this one, personally:

    http://cgi.ebay.ca/Warhammer-LARGE-E...d=p3911.c0.m14

I don't know where he's set the reserve price, but the "Buy It Now" price is way too high for an "Empire" army that's made up of 2 sets of Empire minis from the 6th edition box set, some Bretonnian archers from the 5th edition set, some badly-painted Bretonnian men-at-arms, some broken OOP mounted Reiksguard, and a pile of Clan War samurai.

I'm all for using non-GW minis in an army, especially when they help you create a theme, but this looks like the seller threw together the cheapest minis he could find and is calling it an "army".

I don't have a listing to post, but I know that in the past I have actually sent emails to a couple of sellers. I wasn't rude but I ask them how they thought to sell an army or mini at that price. They were auctions like the OP showed just absolutely crazy.

Sending helpful emails like that doesn't seem to work! I asked one guy how he could justify a £14 P&P on a Steel Legion squad ("Pro-painted" but that's another issue), and he whined on about eBay fees... it didn't sell.

Actually, any search for "pro painted" on eBay generally turns up some amusing auctions.

Well that's true - it's why a lot of auctions have ridiculous S&H. Ebay takes a cut of the sell price of your auction, but it doesn't take a cut of any S&H charges. So selling an item for $2 with $10 S&H is much more profitable than selling the item for $10 with $2 S&H.

I'm surprised EBay hasn't done something about it TBH.

The issue aslso is that if it turns up and is knackered then the seller only needs to refund the item price and not his S+H..... so beware.

It is against ebay policy to sell products on ebay with inflated shipping costs. I have had a few sellers try to inflate costs after items were won, reported the ones that did not comply with ebay's policy after reminding them that they were in violation.

at the end of the day its the "epic scam" its as old as ebay itself (pretty much)

basically it relies on people (usually younger players) not knowing what epic, they go on ebay type somthing in and get mommy and daddy to buy them it, mommy and daddy dont have a clue about the game so they but it

thats how you see people bidding 50 quid on an epic squiggoth

First item is selling for £2.30 per miniature (£1.85/figure for painting/basing/ assembling). Second item is selling for £2.50 per figure (£2.05 for painting/basing/assembling). Fernando Enterprises of Sri Lanka charges £2.37 or so for painting and basing a 28mm wargames figure, and then you have to get them to the painter and back. All in all, those items are pretty good value.

For the price of that 'collectors item' you could put a down payment on a house

Price is all relative to the size of your wallet.

Some people spend 1k on a night out, others cry at spending 50quid.
