Thread: "Oh god that cant be right" ebay auction thread

Re: "Oh god that cant be right" ebay auction thread

Firstly, none of these Ebay auctions are "rip-offs" - you can see exactly what you're getting. In the case of that bloodbowl team, they were listed at 99p. Obviously, three bidders really wanted them.

However, this one is very misleading:

$55 plus $15 shipping would be expensive for the Space Hulk Campaigns book. However, you're not getting the book; you're only getting the counter sheet and one of the two board sections!

Not sure if I`d call it misleading. It does state several times that the book isn`t included and the auction is for a tile and the counters only. Unless theres something I`m missing ?

Expensive cardboard, even if it is classic GW produce.

I can see where pookie is coming from with that, but someone may not take the time to properly read the ad and purchase that item thinking it was the complete Space Hulk.

Ive had good exsperiances with E-bay. Aside from almost paying £40 for a forgeworld bane blade that was infact a epic one, ive had no big worries.

I remember when I was building my Salamanders, I ordered a tac sqaud and a Rhino from one lady, who sent me two by mistake. I contacted her to let herknow, and she let me keep it for my honesty.

That's why its misleading, and not outright fraudulent. Buy it now price similar to that of the book, title in a peculiar format and pictures of the thing you're not getting.

[edit]Looking at the feedback though, I think I might give him the benefit of the doubt. Might just be the fact its a fairly peculiar item that doesn't fit into his usual categories.

It's including a picture of the book cover that makes it misleading.
Sold off my last 40k army in order to buy an empty case to put the extra Privateer Press models I'm going to buy in.

I hope I'm part of a trend. I hope they learn.

you want insanly high prices for models? try looking for some of the rarer black library diorama pieces, ive just watched a ciaphas cain go for £155

thats shocking, my top bid was 150 so that sucks, also why does nobody ever list the forgeworld showcase series plaguebearer! damn i want that lol

eBay offers pretty good protection for buyers when a listing is fraudulent. If it's just misleading, though, you're not very well-protected at all. The auction in question looks OK, because the seller states in several places that the book is not included.

Compare that to when Nintendo Wiis were flying off the shelves; I remember several sellers selling the empty boxes for ridiculous prices. They always stated that they were just selling an empty box, but usually stated it in small print buried in the item description - just enough so that they could claim that they weren't fraudulent listings.

Buyers should be aware of what they're buying, but it's still sleazy to take advantage of people.

THAT, my friends, is an old-fashioned bidding war.

That's nothing compared to when PS2 was first released, and people were selling pictures of the box (printed out), and got away with it.....

I have mentioned it before, but does anyone remember the time when the 6th edition Dwarves and the Land Raider were coming out? About six months prior to their releases, they were going for $250 and above for the models.... And people bought them. Those still have to be some of the worst warhammer related auctions I have seen....

I'm hoping to stay motivated to finish painting an army, or three.... (Update: 10/1/09!)

Anyone in Knoxville, TN wanting to play a game of fantasy, PM me!

off topic slightly but it probably happend to warhammer stuff as well, i know a guy who sells a whole ton of stuff on ebay, every so often he gets a pal to go online and bid on it so anybody else who wants it has to bid higher

Bid as late as possible. That's your only defence against shill bidders. After all, you don't need to be winning the auction early on: Who's winning only counts at the end.

That's someone trying to buy feedback - notice the line "once payment is received and you leave me feedback, I'll leave you feedback"

    I thought that was outlawed...
