Adding to my collection of painting logs, I'd like to show you my take on the Imperial Guard.
But first let me introduce this project how everything started....
Once upon a time, well, to be more exact, in the year 2003 GW published the preious edition of the IG codex. At that time, some friends of mine and I started new armies to play 40k (all of us were 40k players since 1998, but we had stopped playing 40 in 2001 because of a preference for Warhammer Fantasy).
I managed to purchase an IG Starters set and the codex and started painting the army.
My first paintjobs and conversions looked like this:
It's a quite easy paintscheme that could be applied to many models in very short time.
It took some time to get a baisc army of 50 soldiers, 2 tanks and 2 sentinels done and by that time I had thought about a name for the army: "The Legion of Hapes".
After I had named them, I wrote down a bit of fluff for them and started collecting more models. Since my painting skills advanced with this army, the next models looked better:
I purchased and painted many more models and the current army consists of 90 soldiers, and Inquisitor with retinue and rhino, 3 Sentinels and 8 tanks. With "apocalypse" approaching, I bought myself a baneblade and decided that the army would need a lord general and a high magos to lead everything into battle:
The magos is the FW techpriest and the lord general is a conversion based on lord solar macharius.
When the newest IG codex was published a few months ago, I revisited my army and thought about expanding it. After having read the codex and because I always loved tanks, I planned on either adding a few squads of Grenadiers or starting a second IG of Grenadiers and tanks, that could be fielded alongside the older army in bigger battles.
As you might know from my other logs, my main focus in army projects lies not on competitivenes but on painting nice models I like. A search through all the IG models available made me choose the Vostroyans: they have great models, their equipment makes them look like Grenadiers and I think they would be a pleasure to paint.
After the decision for the Vostroyans, I started painting a testmodel:
Mind you, this is just a testmodel and nowhere near perfect. The main fault on this model is IMHO, that the gold needs a middle-highlight between the gold and silver edges, but I think you get the overall paintscheme and appearance.
My question would be, how do you like my idea and/or the model and how would you say I should go on or improve?
