Very nice work Fredmans! The synapse looks cool, a nice little bit of Giger meets Lovecraft erupting from the ground, the harpy is a nice touch.
The spores are dead on as well more top shelf work.
I can't help but wonder though, where are the cultists?

Funny that you managed to pick my two favourite "Alien" sources in your description.

They're obviously lost and most probably damned Seriously, though, I am itching to get back to them, I have not even posted pics the centigors and other mutant beasts I have created. Once the tournament is over, I will dedicate my hobby time to them. I have made some wonderful acquisitions for that army as well.

Nice idea with the Spores, and I agree that the clear plastic works really well. Is it a sheet you've cut up? As you say, it's nearly invisible which makes it hard to tell!

The Hive Node is a great piece of work. Gribbly sculpting and icky painting. Love it.
Good to back. Aye, it's a sheet. Gribbly and icky, that must be short for Giger and Lovecraft.

Some more pictures coming up next week, and hopefully even a game.

    Excellent stuff as usual.
Trying to convince Warseer that GW are anything less than perfect is like trying to teach a horde of zombies that lettuce is a perfectly acceptable alternative to brains.

    Re: Fredman's Epic Project

Thanks again. As I said, I am trying to fill in gaps and missing formations. I have this time-consuming aim to paint at least two of every available formation. So this is bringing my Dactylis and Biovores up to the latest army list format (2 to 3 and 4 to 5 respectively) and also adding a second Dactylis swarm. Sorry about the pictures, lighting conditions were not optimal this morning.

    Completing biovore swarm:

    Second Dactylis swarm:

@McMullet: I enjoyed the battle report over at Tactical Command, looked like a fun game. Sometimes it is good to up the points and add all those gargants and titans.

As always, thanks for watching. I am having great fun with Tyranid terrain right now. As I am leaving the "building" stage and entering the "painting" stage, I am a little nervous how it is going to turn out. Hopefully, some pictures will make it to next week.

Dammit , why is it I see awesome epic stuff when I should be spending all of my money on dystopian wars.....

    Re: Fredman's Epic Project

So, as promised, I have some shots of my Tyranid terrain project. First up are two pieces of swamp area terrain. I have some preferences when it comes to area terrain. I am trying to achieve good-looking and playable terrain. That means, your figures will have to be able to be placed inside it. For this purpose, I started with two "base areas" which are only slightly textured.

Then, I built smaller swamp pieces on movable bases in different sizes. Most of them, but not all showing Tyranid activity.

... and it ended up like this:

Next up, Tyranid woods, brush and jungle.

    Thanks for watching.

    Re: Fredman's Epic Project

Work has been horrible to me as of lately. Hobby time is reduced to 15-minute sessions. I have at least managed to finish a Tyranid "brush". For my Tyranid terrain, I want two things, "living" terrain and traces of Tyranid activity. For my three upcoming Woods, that means lots of organic structures and capillary towers instead of trees. At "brush" level, I wanted to find a way to portray both cover save and visibility. I opted for small corals from my local pet shop and glued them to small movable bases, following the same design that I used for my swamp.

Base Area: just flock, sand and the odd rock or shell/coral stone. Enough to keep the terrain interesting without impeding placement of units. For flock, I used mainly green flock (to tie it to my battle mat) with dead grass in patches towards the centre. The general idea is that Tyranid terrain kills local terrain.

Five movable small pieces. Some use tyranid bitz to show tyranid activity. Tufts are added to add height. More dead grass than green grass. Corals and stones are used to portray Area terrain (blocking LOS).

    and put together:

You can move around/take away parts as units enter the terrain.

For my woods, I experiment with Instant Mold to add numbers to my vanishing Bitz-box. Pictures of the progress will be posted when I'm back from a work-related journey. Thanks for watching,

    Re: Fredman's Epic Project

Just a few more additions to my (almost[almost]) finished Tyranid army.

    Another batch of Hormagaunts:

    and some more Termagants

a fourth Malefactor (currenty army list makes them come in fours)

    Exocrines

A few more entries (Trygons, Titans, Biovores and 'Fexes) and I'm done with my old-school Nids. Then it will be time for an army shot.

    Thanks for watching,
    Fredmans

Thanks for the thumbs up, army getting more and more finished with every week. Next update, 10 Biovores:

Sorry about the crappy pictures, my daughter was in a hurry to get out and play. Silly old dad was very boring.

    The whole lot:

I found these two in my Tyranid box, probably MkI.

    The newer ones

and hiding in the brush, firing away:

    Re: Fredman's Epic Project

A New Year come, and a first update. I have painted some more since last time. First, some Carnifexes.
    Group shot:

    Close-up:

I alos have some pictures of my Trygon project. I usually do take pictures to "discover" the look of conversions before I paint them. The latest army list fields Trygons in threes as a tunnelling formation, so I decided to build tunnellers. As with my first Trygon, I did head swaps, using 40K Rippers. Then I added an arm section to each talon to give them some actual wielding capacity. I sawed the body in half and re-built it into a worm-like shape using a lot of greenstuff. Finally, I added chimney vents to the back. I noticed that the new 40K Trygons have rather low ones, probably to not be an hindrance during all that tunnelling, so I opted for smaller ones than the ones I started out with, but not so small that they would not stand out (a visual compromise).

    Finished Trygon:

    Two more angles:

WIP of a different head variant (that could be used to show synapse in other Tyranid lists):

And a WIP Mawloc (open wide mouth, shorter talons):

As always, thanks for watching and may you paint a lot of models this year!
