    Adeptus Mechanicus 54mm

First off, let me say how much I love the idea of a "Project Logs" board to chart the development of more substantial modelling projects, rather than just the occasional model.

This project log is to chart my progress putting together a themed collection of 54mm models for the Inquisitor game. It isn't my only project, but it's the one I'm enjoying the most, so I'll be most likely to make regular posts with updates.

The object of the project is to create a collection of Adeptus Mechanicus models to act as both Player Characters and NPCs in Inquisitor. I need sufficient to represent a good cross-section of "typical" AdMech archetypes, as well as to be good generic types.

My first batch is to be: Magos Biologis, Enginseer, Luminen (Electro-priest) and Explorator. These will be added on to my existing AdMech characters, a Tech-Acolyte and a battle-servitor.

So to start you off, here's an image of my one finished model that I did for Games Day last year and which started off my AdMech ideas:

This is Saul, the battle-servitor: a rare hybrid gun/combat servitor (this image is WIP):

Meanwhile, here are the first two of my new models that I've started from scratch. Some of you'll have seen these in other posts, but I'm bringing them all together here, seeing as we've been given this opportunity:

    The Magos Biologis concept art:

    ...and the WIP pictures:

    Here's the Enginseer concept art:

I've not started this one yet, as I'm still waiting for my Mynarc model to arrive.

Lastly, no pics yet, but I've made good progress on my Luminen, who is based on Gruss with a heavily modified Josef head. He's unusual for an INQ model, because he has empty hands (and believe me, that was a b*gger to model!) as his electrical ability is inherent.

I'll post the concept art and first pics when I've made the images.

    Regards,

    R.

Here're my first two pictures of my luminen (I have done concept art, but haven't finished colouring it yet, so you'll see it later):

He's going to be really dramatic when painted, I hope, as he'll be a black guy with his electoos painted in a white/silver mix.

Will the luminen be aemed? Looks good so far.

    Re: Adeptus Mechanicus 54mm

the luminen will have a sidearm, but no weapon in his hands. Remember: he's a living weapon himself, with strands of electoos that allow him to generate a powerful burst of electrical energy to either bring life to dormant energy systems or, alternatively, white-hot death to the enemies of the Machine God. Working out how to do two empty hands was a real trick.

Looking good (very wel painted models there, very well painted), and I love the concept, as I mentioned in your previous thread.

Oh, and that luminen sketch looks very promising, looking forward to updates.

As it seems to be traditional, here's a shot of my work area (that I share with the cats) while you wait for updates on my project...

Dunno, but the Xyclos Needler (sp?) looks a bit silly on such a large model, as does the Chirurgeon. I can see on your concept sketch that you too imagined it a bit larger. Maybe you should try converting that, although it might be quite complicated.

I very much dig the rest of the model.

Actually, I'm delighted with how it looks. Weapons at 28mm are usually of quite ridiculous proportions and the Xyclos needler is no exception. As a plain old needle pistol it works fine at this scale.

As for the chirurgeon backpack, I guess you have to see the model itself. It looks more fragile and dainty than it does on the 28mm Bile model, but fundamentally it looks perfect for a normal, 6ft human as opposed to the 7-8ft power armoured superhuman giant who usually wears it.

I did consider scratchbuilding, however. I dismissed the idea for two reasons: (1) I'm really not that good at using plasticard and am making my way slowly forwards in that field, and (2) I like my conversions to be as simple as possible to persuade others to try similar ideas.

This is very inspirational, even though I don't bother with inquisitor myself. The main reason is the space another terrain set (at twice the size as well!) would take.
I've a soft spot for the ad.mech. Can we hope for some fluff to go along with the superb models?

Wow I am loving your conversion work PrecinctOmega. I love that Magos Biologis he looks well good. My favourite mini has to be the combat/Gun Servitor he looks bloody insane.

A common misapprehension. Actually, conventional Gothic ruins, jungle trees and Forgeworld ruined buildings all work perfectly well at 54mm and I am building a set of terrain from scratch that suits both scales just fine.

He's being changed at this very moment. He got decapitated at the recent Inquisitor (UK) Winter Gathering, so I've now removed his head and replaced it with an old Adeptus Titanicus plastic head. Pics once finished.

The ammo feed is from a GI Joe style toy that I picked up in a bargain bucket at Tesco. 85p - terrific!
