    Lord blood builds big gribblies

gearing up for a PCRC apocalypse game of epic proportions I thought it was about time i logged some of my work.
I always tend to start these logs part way through (or hijack someone else's log with my photos and updates, sorry to TEAM FISTO!) but this one i'll start at stage 2, and hopefully it'll keep me on track.

stage 1 basic shape, keep it light and fluffy.

oh come on I can't tell you what it is that'd take away half the fun.
you've seen the core in scale with some guardians
    stage 2:
more wire and a milliput skin for the basic shape

    any ideas yet?

    I'm guessing brass scorpion.

What is that white stuff wrapped with wire on your first post?

I might try my hand at making a heirodule and am always curious about how others go about scratch building irregular shapes.

    Cheers

it is leftover chunks of polystyrene, that were used to pack something i bought on Ebay ages ago.
needed a basic shape for the wee beastie and didn't want to waste a load of money using up a big block of modeling putty. so i built the basic shape out of leftover junk. figured polystyrene would hold the shape but be very light. the wire cage around it was for several reasons:
    to hold the polystyrene together.
to give it the strength to support incase weight of the putty did squish it.
to give something to anchor the legs to.

as with everything i build i started with a wire frame, when i have the pose right i set it in place with a thin skin of putty. used milliput to start cos its good solid reliable and cheaper than green-stuff or pro-create.

whatever it was to start with it has now been renamed and shall be referred to thusly unless an even more awesome title is ascribed to it.

in fact: that is worthy of a thread title. should have called it "Lord blood's GIANT GRASSHOPPER OF DOOOOM!!"

Thanks Lord Blood the Hungry. I'll file this info and technique away for the time being, but will definately give a try when I start working on the gargantuans in the nid army!

anyone else find the new ravener kit really irritating?
all the tails curl the same way
there are 4 tails and 12 chests yet the kit is for 3 models.

    solution:

and i will try to keep you posted with progress reports.

    Sweet!
I love the ... carnifex? It looks like a mini version of the scythed heirodule from Forgeworld.
Ravener bodies are cool. Thats some sweet sculpting skills!

Well, the Carnifex-beastie is epic and I want one.

Love it! Will be very impressed if you get 12 Raveners out of the three-beast box.
The Carnifex is awesome too, I especially like the way the crushing claws have been turned into hooves.

Re: Lord blood builds big gribblies

cheers for all the encouraging comments.

planning to make all my nids really gribbly and alien looking. multiple eyes and many mouth parts.

carnifex conversion is not too difficult, just involves trimming bits of the kit to fit in a different way, a bit of pinning and greenstuff to fill the gaps.
once I've worked out how to do the face I'm thinking of making a couple more.
