    Into the Maelstrom

I'm only 14 (EDIT 15 now ) and over the last few months I have been trying to better my painting so I can have a shot at winning the youngbloods golden daemon next year. I have multiple armies, but most are painted quite basic. I decided I wanted an army where I could put some good time into; to make sure they look nice. Hopefully painting an entire army to a "good" standard will help me along with my single mini's.

After thinking about what I wanted to do with this army I have decided on the Red Corsairs. The color scheme draws me in and I like the Huron model so it's all good.

    Here's my first test marine.

    Cheers,

Wow, he looks really nice. I like how you have used a more 'blood red' then the Merchite Red GW ones. Looking forwards to the Huron model!

That one's looking very nice. I like the red you achieved on the armor.

    Re: Into the Maelstrom

    Thanks guys,

The red is really simple. It actually is the same as GW's except I added a baal red wash in there and I'm using scorched to shade instead of black-lining.

A rough list of what I want in my army:

    Huron
    20 Marines
    10 Berzerkers w/rhino
    7 Plague Marines
    5 Chosen
    Obliterators
    Predator
    Vindicator

Work continues on the rest of the squad. I hope to finish the unit in the next week or so.

    Cheers,

That's excellent LTG, much better than I was at 14! I like the base edge colour too, it works very well with the red.

Will the Plague Marines and Berzerkers be in the same colourscheme as the marines? I hope they will still be clearly recognisable as Red Corsairs!

    Re: Into the Maelstrom

I bet there's more coming soon!

GW did a 180 on the red corsair theme. Before, the marine had the chapter colors crossed out with red X's. Now its actually a unified scheme which I think looks pretty cool on that test model.

I would imagine the plague marines and bezerkers retain their own scheme as they are roaming warbands simply attached to the army in search of greater slaughter. I guess we'll wait and see.

Fantastic work! Though I personally prefer the 'red X' style corsairs you've done a cracking job on this model. Looking forward to seeing more.

    Finally an update!

Works been a bit slow but I managed to finish half of the squad. The other 5 are getting there and I hope to finish the rest by Saturday.

Bolter and base not done yet.

    Thanks,

Wow, these look excellent. I can only hope my own Red Corsairs turn out this good.

Can you give us detail on your painting method for them? and what are your thoughts on colours for berzerkers/ plague marines as it's something I'm pondering myself.
Though my guards may sleep and ships may lie at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Super stuff, they look great. Love the Turquoise hair, really stands out against the red.

    Re: Into the Maelstrom

I'm a bit disappointed as I found out that the Gamesday got pushed back into August. My birthday is in the end of June so I will turn 15 before I even get a chance to enter.

@Born Again, I'm planning on keeping them their normal colors however I want to find a way where I can tie them into the rest of the army. The bezerkers are already red and gold, and I would imagine maybe a should pad or something for the plague bearers.

@LokkoRex, his eyes are painted however I gave the area around his eyes a purple and black wash so I might go back and fix them, however I'm really pleased with how it looks from a distance.

    Cheers,

    Re: Into the Maelstrom

    And the finished squad.
The pictures make some of the highlights look really sloppy but at table top distance they look great IMO.

I decided to go with two meltas instead of plasma. With the list that I made these guys will be mounted in a rhino and should be able to get where they are needed. I have noticed that at my FLGS people like to use tanks, and lots of em, so I think the meltas will make their points back quickly.

Next in line is Huron himself.
