Havokas the Imperial Painter - WIP Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Death Korps

Welcome to Havokas's WIP, the main aim of which is to keep a record or "painting diary" of my three main armys and any other models i happen to paint. ill endevor to post some "how to's" and tutorials if anyone shows intrest in how im painting/converting. any questions you have or comments on my army will be greatly appreciated.

First and foremost will be the Space Wolves -

My latest 40k army, so far the plan is to make a decent competitive force around 2000 points that will eventually be taken to tournements of all point values across NSW (australia), they have been entered in a local incremental points tournement that will be starting with games around 600 points then continuing over the coming months untill games around 2000 points begin.
Models so far : Rune Priest, Skyclaw pack, (converted) Land Raider crusader/redeemer and a Battleforce.

Second will be the Blood Angels
an army started at the begining of the year and my first 40k army, currently sitting around 1750 points and rapidly expanding, with the new codex coming next year its going to be exciting having a ready painted army to go along with it, the army features a wide spread selection of units from the 25 terminators to the 5 tatical squads, three forgeworld venerable dreadnoughts and other vehicles.
    [B][U]

heres some pictures to get you started, when i' have time ill re-order and upload the rest of the pictures and some more Text to boot. if anyone is intrested in seeing how the Shadowsword is magnetised ill post a tutorial.

Re: Havokas the Imperial Painter - WIP Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Death Korps

Update Time - - the first post has been competely re-written, very diffrent to what it was.
finally i've got a bit of spare time, haven't been able to do much by the ways of painting and modeling in the last few weeks but ive got started on my Space Wolves, ordered some new models and decided on colors for my DKOK; Last few weeks of university have been super busy, got three hours of sleep across three days because i was constantly doing assignments with other people and ended up in hospital for about 6 hours or so... cant remember much of the visit. Anyway unis over and i have more time for important things like painting now.

    The Big News -
Played a 4000 point Apocalypse Game with allied Space Wolves and Blood Angels a little while back, didn't bother doing any sort of extensive photography (will post a pic or two soon) or battle report because it was more or less a learning game trying to get more people in my club interested in big games and allowing us to play apoc more casually.

This is how i magnetized my Storm-lords Turrets, now they don't need to be glued at all so you can swap out all the weapon options, move them up and down the side of the tank and also take them off completely for transport. they sit together really well and almost never fall off during game unless their bumped too had. On the inside of each Track of the tank there are about 6 Really Obvious areas that you should put a small metal plate, usually they align with something that slots in for gluing better.

here's some shots of the Space Wolves i've been working on. this week im going to finish putting together two more Grey Hunter squads, finish painting these skyclaws, and finish my BA terminators. - pictures will come - all comments questions and criticisms much appreciated

Re: Havokas the Imperial Painter - WIP Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Death Korps

This the the Space Wolves Dreadnought i've been working the last two days. unsure what colour the head should be and looking for sugestions. also what "dead thing" should i base it with, im thinking half a dark eldar warrior but im open to suggestion.

when i got this model it was covered in Dark Angels icons badly super-glued all over, about half a ravenwing bike was pinned the top. and the red scorpion icons were still mostly visable.
I've done all i can to salvage the model but its still lumpy all over and the texture was ruined. i think it looks better in these photos because the lights a little yellow, a few more hours to go with this one

hopefully my next update will have a fully finished grey hunter squad with twenty more space wolves in progress.

Just a small update untill the weekend comes around.

I've managed to get a fair chunck of my space wolves put together. 30 grey hunters and 7 long fangs are all assembled and on the painting block. im finishing up a blood angels vindicator, which will then be weathered sometime next week, (more pics to come)

Re: Havokas the Imperial Painter - WIP Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Death Korps

Last night i started work on a test model for my Death Korps. this model is about 75% done, still needs the rest of the browns put in and the base to be finished. I'm definatly not sold on the grey and will probly be going with vajello "US Grey" as the main color.

bare in mind that he's a test model. it the Hevy stubber guy from the Grenadiers special weapons pack. These photos came out a little strange the model looks way better in person, the transition between the washes and grey looks quite harsh but is actually much more muted and soft.

Quick update. today my Plasti-card arrived (pollystyriene). and i started tinkering to just get used to cutting and gluing it together. its quite tricky but probly because of my lack of appropriate tools.

im putting together a quick Thunderbolt Fighter. started on the main fuselage today and will post pics tommow night when ive done more work. im not sure if superglue i the best options for plasticard and im going to need to greenstuff alot of gaps.

The DK test model is great. Love the limited palate with just the key details picked out.

Re: Havokas the Imperial Painter - WIP Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Death Korps

Usually a regularly updated thread like this gets loads of comments, I would have though the amount of pictures, promises of thunder-wolf cavalry and the appearance of the Death Korps of Krieg would have drawn a lot more…

Anyway here’s what I’ve been working on

The front/top part of a Thunderbolt Fighter. I’m having some problems getting the pasticard to “set” in place it keeps bending at the joints and ends up being super fragile. Right now I’m just using superglue any help from a master of Plati-Card-Fu would be much appreciated

I haven't tried using plastic glue yet, but intend to on my next project. The way that you've done the front panel on the engine is good providing a bit of structure. I'd suggest going in small components and making sure they don't move before you combine them into the whole. You can also stand them on end so the seam runs vertically that way they support each other while taking the stress off the joint.

Kudos to you, job well done.

that test mini of the Kriegs Guardsmen is nice. The white skull-image of the mask looks intimidating against all the dark colors.

Re: Havokas the Imperial Painter - WIP Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Death Korps

I Spent almost two hours making this marine hang out of the gunner's seat. he's made up from about 6 sepratly sourced peices with only his right leg actualy comming from the Land Speeder kit and it was really hard to cut out of the seat. i've got two other speeders one is pictured i just loved the idea of a speeder gunner using a plasma pistol to hit targets his multi-melta would be wasted on. if anyone can come up with a great reason the gunner would be hanging out i'll try to work it into the base. right now he's just confirming a kill but maby he heard something fall off the speeder.

now just to paint and magnetise. also here's the wings i made for my Thunderbolt practice model. its coming along well but it may have trouble slipping over the other part of the plane because it's just a tad wonkey.

Re: Havokas the Imperial Painter - WIP Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Death Korps

Over the Christmas/newyears period i've taken some time off painting marines and space wolves and played around with some other models.
also today i ordered a bunch of bits for making some Heresy Era Space wolves. In so called "true-scale" with a fair bit of greenstuff and plasticard work. still trying to figure out how to kit them out, if i want them to be wolf guard to go with my new Leman Russ model (pics soon) or if i plan to make a few whole squads for an entire army.

im going to try to make some smallish wings to go on the Plane-Kopter, to carry the twin missiles and bombs, the matchstick is temporary because the conversion makes the blades scrape the ground. also theres going to be two of these and a squad of 5.

the wolf models are from an ebay auction, some guy in russia made a few hundred out of resin casts of his original. they were called monstorus riding wolves.

I dont think he still sells them because of possible copywrite on those legs, which i didnt actually realise came with the models so i was preping up legs to cut an greenstuff myself.

Haven't been working on anything that goes into this specific thread for a little while. been putting together a short D&D game for my local games club and waiting for bits orders.

This is my Primarch Leman Russ - he took around 6 hours to paint all up and im very happy with the result, he plays as Logan Grimnar on the table. ive just got all the bits to do a Squad of pre-heresy marines to go along with him, large scale and everything.

Im searching for more primarch models. hoping to convert my own Sanguinius out of the night-bringer if i can figure out how its done.
