Re: Forces of Warmachine: Books and New Models

Oddly enough, the Kraken makes me think "Battle Engine" while the Wraith Engine makes me think "Colossal" - go figure.

I like it - the rear necrotite (or whatever it's called) engine is a bit on the massive side, but looks nice overall. Much better than their Battle Engine. I prefer it to the Stormwall, too.

I'm excited to get a good look at the Protectorate Colossal, but I'm even more excited for the Hordes models - Woldwrath and Archangel? Shut up and take my money!

Re: Forces of Warmachine: Books and New Models

Would it really have killed them to give the Kraken some beefier back legs? It's like they put a great dane on a corgi's feet.

I'd also want the tentacles posed a little differently and move the legs out to the side a bit to give the model some dynamism. I'll add to that the normal Privateer impracticality of close combat weapons to the point where they stop looking threatening and start looking like toys for small children (I cringed a bit at that point in the video). The tentacles look like they would have trouble actually grabbing anything because of those gears.

There's a lot to like, though. The cannon up top is well-executed. The spiderjacks are my favorite kind of helljacks and this borrows a lot of good ideas from them.

I am not a fan of the Kraken.
The Unicorn Horn is totally silly.
And the aforementioned hindlegs are too weedy.

I look forward to the Hyperion.

Lion: ... actually, I was going to say that Magnus was right. Horus has turned to Chaos, 7 other Legions have joined him and he has destroyed 3 Loyal Legions already!

    Conquest

    http://privateerpress.com/warmachine...ssals/conquest

The Conquest is a walking mountain of steel bristling with some of the most powerful weapons ever used on the battlefields of the Iron Kingdoms. The deafening roar of the colossal’s steam-fed engine is punctuated by the staggering percussion of its devastating guns, which unleash a punishing barrage of shells able to reduce warjacks to slag and annihilate entire enemy formations. Deployed to the front lines, the Conquest brings unrivaled firepower to Khadoran battlegroups.

I really like this thing. The head's especially fun, and the whole thing looks brutal.

Vladimir Tzepesci, Great Prince of Umbrey

    http://privateerpress.com/warmachine...ince-of-umbrey

Reclaiming his long-denied birthright, Great Prince Vladimir Tzepesci rides his warhorse Vsada into battle to defend the lands of Umbrey restored to his family. He wields weapons of the ancient Tzepesci horselords, carrying a spear in one hand and the mace Huntsman in the other. Should strength of arms alone prove insufficient, Vladimir lashes out with dark sorceries, the blood of kings that runs in his veins lending him the strength to secure victory.

Specific mention of his "blood of kings"...cuz, you know, we need that on a cavalry model...hopefully it's just poetic license or is less insane than I'm imagining. Spiffy model, though - I especially like this version of Vlad's face, and the bonus head is nice.

Can't say I was a fan of the colossals at all, but this thing really makes the Cygnar and Khador ones look good. Helldiver limbs, tentacles and a dark lance attached to a ball doesn't do much for me. One of the major improvements to the C & K colossals was the limbs were much more in proportion to the body than is typical of warjacks. This thing takes a back step from that improvement.

and the Colossals blurb makes me feel totally justified in fearing PP would start pushing larger scale games.
The lack of any mention of anything but colossals and epics (*well, except the mercs get a new dwarf warcaster rather than an epic) is pretty dire as well

    Succubus

    http://privateerpress.com/hordes/gal...solos/succubus

Products of generations of Everblight’s manipulations, succubi are fonts of blighted arcane power. To create each one, a specially selected Nyss is brought to the spawning pools and ritually bathed in the blood of a warlock. It emerges as something no longer wholly Nyss, attuned to the warlock whose blood actualized its second birth. This ritual empowers each succubus as an amplifier of its warlock’s own gifts. With their every thought and action these creatures carry out the will of their masters and the dragon itself.

Yay. I was waiting to see the model for this one - I am quite pleased. I wish the Forsaken looked this good.

To be honest I read the blurb and thought of Apotheosis which was just some casters and one character jack for each faction.

Unbound's been published for a while. Apart from offering another option of gaming (which makes larger scale games more fun) it's not really a big push. For a start leagues and tournaments show no inclination on going that way and those are the main focuses. This is about giving individual players more options.

I really like it, and will certainly be getting it, for Rhyas if nothing else.

Of all Legion models that need a resculpt it is the Forsaken.
There are other candidates but none that are as taken as the Forsaken.

Apotheosis was an odd experiment in 'masterclass' models and what they primarily thought of as an 'art book', something they wanted to do, but ultimately decided they wouldn't do again, because balancing that many warcasters at once was apparently a massive PITA. This seems more a way of, first, easing their production schedule, and second, selling the unbound rules for a second time (people did buy the NQ they were originially published in). I expect the art and background material to take up the same amount of space that they did in Wrath and Domination. However, Unbound is going to take up the majority of the space that usually goes to models.

I find it interesting that even on the PP forums, some people are commenting on the lack of any indication that there will be anything other than warcasters and colossals, and basically saying, well, if thats the case, no need to buy the book. Giving players more options doesn't matter much if they aren't actually interested in them (as your own comment about leagues and tournaments seems to indicate).

No that's not what I said. I was addressing your concern that PP's concern was just to ramp up the size of games.

man i hope they do more than just Colossals n casters. before wrath (i started when wrath came out) did they give hints about things like the new jacks, or the ranking officers or anything like that? maybe they have stuff but theyre just keeping it under wraps.

I'd have to check the release dates, but some of the ranking officers were mentioned or shown a fair bit before Wrath came out. 5 of the new character 'jacks were released at the GenCon prior to Wrath's release. I don't recall anything being a big surprise from that particular book.

Far more was unknown from Domination.
