Re: Forces of Warmachine book thread

Probably going to buy the Cygnar one because I want to be able to play my small Cygnar force. Not too excited as my main WH army is RoS, but I am looking forward to seeing the Tiers for Cygnar. If there is a lightning or storm-based one (which I take it there will ), I just might be tempted to add a few minis to my collection. Especially if there is some new Storm Knights or similiar. But it's certainly not going to be one of those disappointing Cygnar plastic jacks.:cries:

On the fluff side, I am guessing that the Cygnar book is where it is hinted what Magnus has been doing lately. Considering that Vinter has apparently betrayed him, it will be interesting to get to know what Magnus intends to do. Speaking of Vinter, Cygnar might also be the one where it is hinted what Vinter is up to after being thrown out by the Skorne...

Lastly, there is of course a cursory interest in what the new Caster is like.

EDIT: For Hordes, it's Legion, of course....

Re: Forces of Warmachine book thread

I'd actually guess that the Mercenary book would give more insight into Magnus than the Cygnar book would - unless you mean his actions against the Wonderswans and how they interact with Vinter's constant threat/annoyance.

Probably, but since the Mercenary book is last, one can only hope there is hints sooner, and the Cygnar book seem most likely. After all, Magnus is story-wise linked to both Stryker and Caine.

Is the new Retribution book Mark II ready? If not, will that be in the main Mark II book? Sorry for the odd question, thank you.

Re: Forces of Warmachine book thread

The current Retribution book is already Mk. II in format.

The main Mk. II book - Warmachine: Prime - will have the same contents as the original Prime + the new Heavy for each faction, if I remember correctly.

Note that the Retribution is not supposed to be included in Prime - although Eiryss should show up if they want to make it like the original.

Re: Forces of Warmachine book thread

im excited about all the new cygnar stuff. ive heard of some storm knight with an even larger version of the stormguard leader's gun, a new trencher unit, and of some new stormsmith guy. all this is way more than i expected to get out of a faction book and may not even be all of it. i wasnt looking for anything but resculpts and a new caster.
the new nemo sculpt that will probably be released concurrently with the book looks amazing as well and between that and his epic would say nemo is over all our best looking caster now.

it is disheartening to hear that retribution wont be in prime 2, they go through all the trouble to make a fifth faction then dont treat it like anything more than a merc contract. i do have a feeling eiryss might be pulled from the merc section of prime in favor of madelyn corbau or whatever her name is.

i would love to see a table of contents for both books.

I don't recall, other than PP's wanting to keep Prime "Prime" - if I can find the quote, I'll post it here. Otherwise I'll go digging and figure out if they are going to put the Retribution in.

As an aside, however, we won't see anything new for the Retribution until after the 9 other Forces books are released - i.e., when they go back to story-based supplements.

    EDIT:

    Here we go

Additionally, it would make the force books less useful as a reference if those models were excluded.

For example, Commander Coleman Stryker will be in both Prime Mk II and the Cygnar Force Book.

that still disappoints me, it gives me the feeling they dont take retribution as a legitimate faction and that it has a high chance to get the dark eldar treatment.

Doesn't concern me at all. When GW pulls something like this, I get concerned. When PP tells me that they are doing something to keep costs manageable, and to get the product to me on time and as promised, I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't see why they couldn't do a Minions book. It just means you'd need the Minions book in addition to the faction book of your choice.

Alternatively, they could simply include all the Minions who'll work for a given faction in that faction's book. That does make things awkward for those Minions who'll work for Warmachine factions, though. Or they could just stick 'em in the Mercenaries book.

Re: Forces of Warmachine book thread

Despite being a bit off-topic, the case with Minions is interesting and how PP is going to handle it. The marked difference in design philosophy between Mercenaries and Minions is quite striking. Has anyone seen an explanation as why PP has chosen no to make Minions similar to Mercenaries? Not that I am negative as such, I'm just curious!

On-topic, I am not really concerned with the omission of the Retribution. I trust PP to return things to normal after the factions books. Though it will be annoying not having new stuff for a long time - good thing there are other pointy ears in the Iron Kingdoms

The main problem with this is that you cannot make a "self-contained" Minion army like you can a Mercernary army. There are no Warlocks, only Lesser Warlocks.

Alternatively, they could simply include all the Minions who'll work for a given faction in that faction's book. That does make things awkward for those Minions who'll work for Warmachine factions, though. Or they could just stick 'em in the Mercenaries book.
Putting them in "employer" force books would cause a lot of undo duplication - several copies of the Gobber, Gator, and Farrow rules, plus whatever other units aren't picky about their employers. Similarly, the Forces book should focus on the Force at hand, in my opinion - those silly pig-men have no place in a book devoted to my precious blighted elves

The Mercenaries book is probably the best option, though it may cause some tightness in the testing/release schedule.

It could be, in part, due to the nature of the individuals involved. There are few Minions, story-wise, who have both the capability to be a convincing leader and the "furious" know-how to be a Warlock. Even with the Lesser Warlocks, we see more of a solo with a unique attachment to a single beast - and often those individuals are from lesser races (Wrongeye, Rorsch) or are markedly different from the rest of their people (Brun, Dahlia).

They'd have to introduce a new story, or at least new details, to cover a Minion Warlock. For instance, Mercenary Warcasters all serve smaller factions/nations within Immoren - be it Magnus' Agenda, Rhul, Llael, or the various Pirates of the Broken Coast.

Without crossing an ocean, there seems to be a bit of a tight spot in bringing in another pseudo-faction that would be in touch with their wild side more than their mechanical side. Although, with Blighterghast calling in the Dragons there may be more reason for the lesser tribes of the Immoren wilds to rise to the occasion.

i think it's more of an issue PP had with the mercenaries in Warmachine. they weren't intended to be a faction, but they realized that's what everybody wanted after they released the Warcasters. It was like what, a year or 2, till they released rules for doing all Merc armies?

So, that's why i think they went with the "lesser" warlock characters instead of fully fledged warlock minions.

Yes. So? That's not really relevant to there being a "Forces of Hordes: Minions" book. It just wouldn't be a very thick one.

It could lead people to believe that it's all they need to field a complete army, when it in fact isn't. This is especially true if their new marketing contains any reference to Forces books and Prime being all you need to get a faction army up and running.

Now, if they titled it something other than "Forces," all that potential confusion goes away.
