Ah, Vlad as the cav caster so Khador players will finally shut up about Kraye.
Surprised he ditched his shiny new greatsword.

Nice shark, pretty shark.
FOR A LANCE. he's a boss
The lance and flail kind of ruin it for me, honestly. I can deal with sword and dagger or dagger and dagger, but I'm not much of a fan of the whole dual-wielding nonsense in the first place, and two horribly unbalanced and awkward weapons at once, while on horseback to boot... it is just going too far.
In that regard it reminds me too much of the sculpting atrocity that is Fenris
Nice shark, pretty shark.
Well, hopefully he won't be sculpted in the middle of being thrown off his horse, like Fenris is.
I can kind of see why he'd have both weapons, as lances are unwieldy enough to be dropped after the initial charge, but dual-wielding them doesn't make that much sense.

Battle mechanik officers are hardened combat veterans who specialize in the maintenance and battle repairs of the vaunted Man-O-War armor. Trained in the use of steam-powered armor, they rely on its protection to wade deep into the thick of battle to repair warjacks and Man-O-War alike. The mechaniks’ presence ensures no soldier’s armor becomes disabled, keeping Khador’s signature heavy infantry in the fight.
not a bad looking model better than i was expecting

Thats a nice sculpt! My only dislike about it is that the tool...belt...bag... thing makes him look a bit pregnant. Just me?

*That's* where you draw the line?
It wasn't the DOOM-pauldrons of eVlad, the ubiquitous Cinderblock Hammer syndrome, the proportions on the Gorax, the lack of ammunition hoppers for any of the 'jack guns, the weapons dance of the Kayazy Assassins, the inability to sculpt a chain (anywhere), the net on the Buccaneer, Skarre's chainmail bikini, the proportions a man would need to have to fit into Man-o-War/Bastion/Cataphract armor or the astonishing ability for any warjack to lift its own torso?
What makes this particularly egregious? In for a penny, in for a pound I say.
Symbols of status, I'm sure.
can he even reach that toolbox on his shoulder.
also, nice rant, i like how it makes a lot of good points
Yep.
None of those things bother me (other than assassin just being ugly sculpts). The pauldrons of doom remind me of the Character Status discussion around Record of Lodoss war (bigger pads = better character), the hammers are mostly on jacks (magic steam robots) so they can be as cinderblock as they like, the Gorax is a fantasy ape monster (though the new sculpt is even worse than the old); the game doesn't last so long that the jack guns can't have internal ammunition, I don't see any dance, just ugly models, most of the chains are fine, the net is fine, not sure what would be wrong with a chainmail bikini, I don't really know how the armour fits together, so the proportions can be fudged to a degree that doesn't bother me, and again, magic steam robots.
But a lance and fail, simultaneously? That just isn't something a human can do, least of all while balanced on a horse. One weapon requires balance and aiming, the other requires energetic swinging. Its not a walking while chewing bubblegum situtation, its a performing a violin concert during a rugby game.
Its also, I admit, that I just hate the &*$^@& dual-wielding fetish thats inserted itself into the fantasy genre. Its fine showing up occassionally with properly matched short blades (including the sword and dagger of the original vlad), but so many people have taken it to a Stupid Place. Like WoW Fury Warriors dual-wielding two handed weapons. Or the utter stupidity that is One Piece.

Nice shark, pretty shark.
I assume the Lance is for the charge and the Flail is for when he gets stuck-in.
Even if the background on him has him dual-wielding, I'm probably going to have to lop the flail arm off and move the flail to a "holstered" position on the model if I get it.
Precedent suggests otherwise. Generally everyone gets all their attacks all the time, Plus wacky situations like the Uhlans somehow stabbing people with the butt of the lance when they don't charge.
Nice shark, pretty shark.
PP has never believed in lances just being "Charge!" weapons. At least so far as I can tell. The Storm Lances get theirs, electrical jumps and all, even when trapped in tarpit units. Just cut away the arm for aesthetics and move on.
If the art is a true indication, Vlad keeps the title of Khador caster with the coolest back story and silliest model. The epic variant has about as much chance of seeing anything around him as Kenny on South Park. Every time I see the model I picture him crushing his own skull while trying to make a two handed overhead swing with his sword. Those shoulder pads snapping shut like a bear trap!![]()
"As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely just a result of wishful thinking." Pete Haines
It's a turret. A TURRET! Got it? There is no such thing as a turrent.
Exemplar Vengers use their lance on the charge and their sword on combat turns where they didn't charge. Uhlans have something similar, though they have a spear attack instead of a sword if I remember right. Same with Markov.
I think Cygnar might be the oddity that gets to use its Lance all the time.
EDIT: Destors have that "Lance" rule, too.
