Re: The Host of the Feathered Serpent - Lizzie Blog + Other bits i fancy doing...

Hey guys - thanks for the comments!

Lord Dan - Glad you like em mate! DOn't worry too much about the ogre - the arms come off, and I will be making alt weapon options! Halberds are a brilliant idea, and I have the plans laid out for a warmachine

    Morten C - Haha! Thanks!

Dino - I'm happy that you are liking the look of these guys - got LOOOOAAAADDDDS planned for them! And I did get it, and I will try to reply to you tonight!

Hairy/Urgat/ Karak Norn - Cheers guys!

Anyway folks, time for another update! I’ve had a bit of time off today you see, so it’s been a pretty productive one!

Because I have finished the Albionnicans, and every time I talk about starting a new model a friend of mine shouts at me to finish something I already started, I decided to do a bit more work on a sculpt I’ve been doing for ages! The Zombie Pirates are due an update soon anyway...

More WIPs of the Undead Whale! –

Don’t worry guys, the boat/howda will be fully detachable from the beast, so you can use either of them on their own! What do you think of the recent work?

    Cheers!

That is pretty much fantastic, but I hope you'll take care to make the detailing on the howdah meet the customers' expectations.

Looking good. Can't wait to see the whole thing finally done.

Question. How will the ship half work with out the whale part?

Aren't the countless previous pages enough to ease that kind of worry?

I would say they are, but such a reminder as I wrote above is not out of place when a sculptor use balsa wood for a miniature to be cast. It is a material I'm not used to see on greens. I do not doubt the finished howdah will be good, however.

I understand you, but I'm not worried in the least. I cannot say I'll necessary love the style, but there's no worry about the technique

That whale looks better and better everytime I see it. That will be quite a big boat, personally I would not make it just one flat surface but rather two levels, lower at the back. This would allow to follow the shape of the whale better while at the same time keep enough flat surface to put your models on.

Time to prepare for the Albionnicans it is.

How does it flip its tail if you do that?

this. the howdah looks a bit too intact right now and what N810 posted would be pretty spot on as a Howdah I think.

Re: The Host of the Feathered Serpent - Lizzie Blog + Other bits i fancy doing...

    Good afternoon ladies and gentlefolk!

Lord Dan - I must say, I'm trying to make it as icky as possible! It'll come out more when I've given it a lick of paint... I havn't wanted to paint one of my figures as much as I want to paint this one! I knew I should have done a Nurgle army instead of Lizardmen :P

Karak Norn - Don't worry my dear Sir! The balsawood ( In this case trimmed coffee stirrers from Starbucks), is only being used as a base. Scratches, barnacles and texture are being sculpted on top to give the painted lots of lovely stuff to keep him occupied! It's a pain in the backside, but hopefully worth it for the finished result!

Dino - There would need to be a bit of trimming done on the lower lying planks, but you could just plonk it on the table and use it as a dinghy!

Urgat - Thankyou for having faith! Haha! Lets hope I make you like the style AND the technique!

Little Joe _ Thanks mate! I took your advice, but rather than lowering a section at the back, I raised it! It gives space for the whale's tail to wiggle, and a great vantage point for any self-respecting Pirate Captain

N810/Cpt McAllister - I was thinking of that Gentlemen, but seeing as my goal is to have the boat section cast in one piece ( it IS possible!) I couldnt have any big gaps in the hull... If I were to do that, I would haveto chop the boat up, increasing the cost of casting and therefore increasing the cost to the customer! Not good Bear with me chaps, I will make it look good!

Anyway folks, speaking of the whale, more WIP updates! This time with more barnacles! ( effin SICK of sculpting barnacles... not quite as bad as feathers, but still!)

There be plenty o'room in that there howda!

Look! You can fit all'o'ye crew in it snug like!

And work starts on a new Captain to lead your Zombie Pirate force into battle...

I've attempted this model before, but I thought I would give it another bash - any ideas? The whale may be a clue...

    Cheers guys!

A good choice to make them seperate. The model it self is looking really good. Can't wait to see the crew you sculpt for it.

Since he already looks so much like captain Ahab, he needs a whaler's hat and a big ol' pipe.

Hey guys! Thanks for the comments!

Just a super quick picture update today, WIP of Ahab ( I'm really gonna need a new name for him... Abodiah?)

I tried to stay off the barnacles on this guy - Mainly because I'm sick of sculpting them, but also I wanted him to look quite ambiguous...

In ArcWorlde, he could stand in for either a Captain, or an Old Man of the Sea ( the spellcasters/wizards), but he could also stand in for dark Wizards or Necromancers or even non-undead characters in other wargames!

    What do you think folks?

    Ahab? Bebeha?
I think he should have the barnacles, sorry. The other choices, you're gonna make models for them in the long run, no? Don't sacrifice details and originality on the name of versatility.
    Well that's my opinion
Oh, btw, I've painted my boglars, sadly, I don't have a propper pic for them, didn't have time and now they're at my parent's place. Only remaining Warpy mini I have left to paint is the kiwi, which I won't paint until I get the second one and can fit them both properly on the base. I'm off to hollidays for a week at the end of the month, I'll probably order the cocklegriph when I come back.
