Creeping Dementia's Model Log, Tau and Sisters

Well I've been browsing though other peoples work for a while now and Figured it was time to contribute a bit of my own stuff to see what you all think.

My current main army is a Mechanized Tau force.

Its a Third Sphere Reclamation force from Tau itself. Most of it is painted, the only models I still have to paint are Stealths and Pathfinders, but they aren't really a priority now because I'm not using them in any current lists.

First couple are wide shots of the whole army:

A lot of the stuff I paint uses a lighter color scheme as I think it looks better on the tabletop, you can actually make out contrast, and they're just more memorable.

Alright, first close ups will be of my Piranha. Piranha are some of my favorite models in the 40k range and are the main reason I initially started playing Tau. All the drones have magnetized stands, and the weapon systems are magnetized as well so I can switch between Fusion and Burst.

And a close up of the cockpit and controls.

Naturally there are some details that I should have worked out, or plan on coming back to eventually, but I'm happy with them.

Next up will be the Suits.

Re: Creeping Dementia's Model Log (Exorcist added)

Alright, Crisis suits. All weapon and gear options are magnetized.

My Shas'El in Helios configuration. I did this guy in a 24 hour painting competition (I only used a few hours though), he didn't win or anything but I got some good experience with posing and freehanding the Tau emblem.

And just another Crisis suit, nothing too special here.

And my Firewarriors. These guys were such a pain to paint, especially because I painted 48 of them as once. I'm really happy that they're done though, large amounts of painted troops are pretty rare outside of tourneys.

Re: Creeping Dementia's Model Log (Tau, Sisters, maybe something else)

More on the Firewarriors and the interiors of the Devilfish. All the Devilfish and Hammerheads are interchangable, so I can have lots of Hammerheads for Apoc games, or 4 Fish and 2 Hammerheads that are in my current 2000pt list.

I decided to do the interiors of most of my Tanks before they were fully assembled, it wasn't too much of a hassle, and its a nice little bonus.

Last of all the close up on the Skyray. I don't use it as a Skyray much in games (change it out for a Hammerhead), but it's a really cool looking Tank.

Thats all on my Tau for now. The next additions will likely be 6 Forgeworld plasma Broadsides, and probably 5 more suits (possibly Forgeworld as well).

Currently I'm working on my Sisters, but it's slow going with them this semester. I'm really taking my time on detail with them though, and only painting 1 tank or 2 infantry at a time rather than mass painting. I'll post some pics of the 8 Sisters I've done so far in a while.

    Thanks for looking.

Just wanted to add my praise, and say I really like your painting- and that countertop really compliments your color scheme.

Look forward to seeing more in the future. Keep up the good work!

Re: Creeping Dementia's Model Log (Tau, Sisters, maybe some Lizardmen)

I am very interested in the new XV9 suit, the problem is I'm about equal parts gamer/hobbiest. I wouldn't be able to use the XV9 in tourneys and such, so they just aren't as high a priority, while the Forgeworld Broadsides and the XV89s I would be able to use in all the games I play. I want a pile of tetras as well, but have the same problem as I do with the XV9.

I'll get some pics of the Sisters I've done so far up in a couple days, but so far I only have 8 Sisters done, and am working on a Exorcist (though school this semester is making that a little slow going).

Re: Creeping Dementia's Model Log (Tau, Sisters, maybe some Lizardmen)

Alright heres the first Sisters I have finished so far. I went for white armor with dark blue robes and yellow trim. I think they are turning out well so far, though the white is a big pain on the tanks I'm working on.

    So heres 8 basic Sisters.

    Excellent paint job Creeping Dementia!

Its crisp, detailed, and well blended of colors. Being a Sisters of Battle player whose also using a white armor color scheme, I like what you did with the crevice and niches. Bringing out details using blues works well with white. I may borrow your idea of matching the base perimeter color to the cloth.

Great job with the face. Your Sisters have rosy cheeks.

Excellent work with your Tau. You did a clean job.

Re: Creeping Dementia's Model Log (Tau, Sisters, maybe some Lizardmen)

Thanks for the comments everyone, I appreciate it. Once finals are over I'm planning on really getting some painting done. The break from school will be nice and I'm hoping I'll be able to get my first Exorcist done at least (possibly get my Heavy flamer sisters done and start the 2nd Exorcist as well).

And feel free to borrow whatever schemes or techniques you see and like. Everything I've done with my painting probably came from other peoples stuff too. I've always liked the color trim on the bases, it makes me sad to see under based models, basing in general is such an easy process and adds so much to the model. IMO what I have here is an easy minimum basing standard, enough to get most/max points in a tourney, looks good, and really isn't very time consuming.

Beautiful stuff. I love the Tau. A tip for the sisters (you can take or not); don't paint the upper lip. It tends to make them look too heavily made up. However, I love your stuff.

Some very nice painting there, well done.

I love the way you have done the faces on the Sisters and the whole Tau army looks awesome and very well painted.

Thats actually some of the same general painting advice I got from a pro a year or so back about faces. I tried it and on my first test Sister and it looked like she was making a goofy face and sorta masculine. In the case of regular humans (male) or eldar it would look great though, and I have seen some Empire handgunners that looked a bit transvestite-ish (and a Calgar with a similar look), gotta be careful with that upper lip. Sisters can pull off the makeup though, just because they're burning mutants and heretics doesn't mean they can't get all dolled up I am doing minimal work on the upper lips though, they just need a little bit, I need to get a magnifying stand one of these days, all this small stuff is tough and there are other details I'd like to include but may not be physically possible, like a Fleur de Lys tatoo on the cheek.

Nice job on the tau the blue has a nice effect with the color scheme.

The sisters look ok, I have the same problems with faces and eyes, although I think I am getting better! Keep working!

I've shied away from white armor, but they look good.

Interesting tip on just painting the lower lip for makeup, too.

Re: Creeping Dementia's Model Log (Exorcist added)

Alright my first Exorcist is finally done. Anyone that has painted one of these knows just how much time you can spend on them if you want to.

It was really my first experience with pinning and greenstuffing, and I'm pretty happy with the results. There are some mistakes that I made, but they shouldn't be too observable, and I deffinately learned alot.

I have named it 'Genesis of Victory, and it's name in Latin is written on the back of the pipes, Imperator Victoria.

So here she is, 'Imperator Victoria'.

So there is it, let me know what you think.

Next in line are my Heavy Flamer Sisters. There are 4 of them, and I'm hoping to get them done before school starts back up on the 6th.

It seems that you like having to paint two of the hardest colors out there, yellow and white.

However you pulled both off and both armies look great. I'm a big fan of your tau. They look very clean, and the camo effect turned out fantastic. How did you achieve that yellow if you don't mind me asking?

The yellow on the Tau wasn't too hard to be honest. I undercoated the entire army with an off white (almond to be specific) then painted them with a severely watered down yellow a couple times. It was really the only easy way I could figure out to get a more pale yellow, rather than an obnoxious bright yellow (like Imperial fists). It turned out pretty well. One thing I would change now though would be to get a thin coat of varnish on after the yellow is applied. The thin yellow coats can rub off pretty easily during painting.

The white on the smaller Sister models isn't too tough, its the large panels on the tanks that I've got to be careful with.

Thanks for the comments, they're always modivating.
