    Nanktank dips into skaven

Well after looking at the new skaven sculpts I can honestly say I havent felt this attracted to a piece of plastic since when I first saw Pamela Anderson on baywatch when I was 14.
Anyway my first purchase was of course the new clanrat boxed set. I will use half of them as clanrats and the other half as slaves. I also have a big order from maelstrom coming in with the new battalion, stormvermin, queek, and some rat ogres.

Now onto the painting, I thought I would try dipping as way of staying sane trying to paint all these models so here is a before shot:

undercoated white, fur: snakebite leather, skin: elf flesh, clothing: blood red, vallejo london grey, scorched brown, armour: chainmail

    And after dipping:

I used cabots dark walnut acrylic stain, its about AUS$25 cheaper than the army painter.
Ill touch them up once I have dipped the rest of them

I'm very curious to see how this progresses! I've got a tremendous number of rats to paint and I was considering using some sort of dip also.

Looking forward to the next update...

Thanks Eternal badger, I was just about to update when I saw your post so without any further ado:

My poor photographic skills make them out to be a lot more glossy than they are, I quickly discovered that brushing on the dip wastes a lot less liquid. After drying I painted the reds of the eyes and gave them all a matt varnish, Im pretty happy with the result for about 2 hours work, now the unenviable wait for the rest of my army.

Im not a fan of dipping, but they look ok. It's a shame the new models are 3-4 parts only and look almost like clones.

I agree they do look very similar to each other, but not as bad as the 4th ed plastics:

I actually have 12 of these from warhammer quest the trouble is they dont rank up unless of course theyre based diagonally, and they are about 1.5 times bigger than the new clan rats. so they wont visually fit in with the new army.

On the flip side however, while rifling through my warhammer quest figures I found the heaps and heaps of giant rats, so coupled with the battalion and the rat ogres boxed set when they arrive, I shall have some good flank proctectors.

Looks like a good start, I would definitely be dipping if I was doing a Skaven army haha. I like how you didn't put the basing materials on before dipping. I hate when people use the dip to "paint" the base as well since the model ends up looking too homogeneous. To me the base is the best way to set the model off when you dip. Matte varnish helps a lot too, but you said you already did that.

I look forward to seeing more and good luck!

Good start (although dipping is a sin)!

However, I've to disagree on the clone subject; it's easy to make them look individual if one paints them with different skin, fur, eyes (yellow, black, red, green), armour (bronze, iron, rusted metal, lacquered/painted plate) and clothes (including freehand painting of chevrons and the like).
And the 4th ed. Dwarf and Skaven plastics, although before my arrival into the hobby, were beautiful! So full of dead hard character that only recently has been achieved again by GW.

@ szlachcic: I agree, dipping the base just doesnt suit, I will be painting the bases separately.

@basher: Im just waiting on the rest of the regiment to arrive and I will base them all in one hit.

@N0th1ng c4n b34t 3lv3s: After having another look at my old school skaven I am starting to agree with you. although the physical size of the old sculpts is too big to fit in with the new clan rats.

Anyway, I took advantage of the good exchange rate we have to the pound at the moment to purchase these from ebay, I got 8 for approx $30 AUS, sure beats 3 for $22 AUS from GW direct.
