    My take on the Reaver

By accident I stumbled unto the plans for the diy Reaver, and I see that some of you have done that also.
    This is my attempt:
The materials are mainly cardboard 0.4mm thick, I had a few doubts with this, but after test building a few parts, I'm rather satisfied with the cardboard, with a few tricks here and there it looks like it will be strong enough, it is extremely easy to work with, and I have loads of it

I started out with a foot, but realising that I shouldn't have glued the toes into place before the hydraulics was in place, plus being slightly unsatisfied with the overall looks, I decided to try something else.

Adding the corners helps me keep the corners well defined, and they will later be "riveted" in place the same has been done to links between the foot and the toes.

Re: My take on the Reaver

Almost done with the lower leg, folding the armour plate around turned out to be a bit more difficult than first expected, this would probably have been a bit easier with plastic card.
Regarding the discs bracing the armour, I opted to not cut out the square on the upper and lower most discs, but simply used those to close of the inner square tube of the leg (I'll take more pictures when I assemble the next leg) it gives a much sturdier structure.

In order to control the join on the back of the leg I opted to place a strip of cardboard in plain visibility, it will later be riveted along with the thinner strips bordering the armour plate. Next I think I'll take on the torso.

Oh.. and don't expect daily updates on this one, I work really slow! What you have seen up to now represents 3 or 4 weeks of sparetime

Upper torso is now complete, on to the lower part and the hips...

I am working on the pelvis.... I actually managed to fold the darn thing, but I was not totally happy with it, so I decided make it from several pieces, nearly done with that, but I just stumpled upon something I would like to share:
Really heavy duty electrical wiring - one single core a little more than 4mm diameter - aluminum.
I think I have found the source for the hydraulic parts.

    What do you think?

Don't scratch build it because you can't afford the FW model, it would be better to do lawns and car washes to earn the money for it, you would get it a lot quicker
I scratch build because I like it

Pelvis is done! I'm convinced that every time someone starts a build like this, LackOf is sitting behind his screen laughing evilly "Wait till he gets to the pelvis"
It is a bitch! If you haven't done one before, try first in ordinary printer paper, that way you can see how to make the folds. Even so, I ended up doing it in several parts.

Next the upper legs and posing time!

Need to make the other leg before doing any posing, but I do see the need for some slight modifications. Did the head.

Re: My take on the Reaver

So... neckblock is done, nice with something easy I'm experimenting with different solutions for the tubing between necblock and head, but don't expect any pictures of that before next week.
I'm also contemplating changing the should armour to be a part of the carapace, I've done some doodling and took a picture with my mobile (only imaging source available to me right now) take a look at the right shoulder and let me know what you think.

    Status is:
    main body assembled.
parts for one leg done, but not assembled
head almost done, need to figure out what to do with the eyes.
oh yes, I'm also working on grilles for the exhaust.

Regarding fluff, well, purists should look away now, I'm building a smurfed reaver, and will probaly do a combination of Ultramarine and Mechanicus iconry.

There's smurfs and there's smurfs My son has an Ultramarine army, and when it is done, I'll have no more interest in it, so ultramarine blue it is.

I'm considering changing the head a bit, perhaps shortening the snout...

Re: My take on the Reaver

Just lost my latest photos in a computercrash, but progress has been made:
    Parts for both legs finished.
Two new feet is nearing completion.
    Carapace is being worked on.
Exhaust is done, NOTE: Do NOT mount the exhaust before carapace is mounted
Progress is being done on the eyes. Still not quite sure what to do though, I've been thinking about adding some kind of light to the eyes, but I'm somewhat reluctant to do it, there is a high risk of utter cheasyness. Besides lights would probably work fine on the FW type head, where the eyes are facing forward, but here the eyes are placed on the side of the head, any suggestions?

Re: My take on the Reaver

Solved the issue with eyes... I'm not going to do them, I've switched to Fiores templates, and am currently working on mocking it up in heavy paper. I will not show any pictures before I start the actual building. One thing I can say though is that I will make a few changes here and there, my reaver is going to have five toes on each foot, wich means a minor redesign of foot and lower leg.

Re: My take on the Reaver

XD Nice. I agree, Fiore's templates are far simpler, and in my opinion looks better, Lackof's plans are really nice but it's a little over complicated in places (also the plasma cannon is missing pieces) and it's the older version of the Reaver which isn't to my taste. I have both sets of plans myself, and a third set from.... somewhere and someone else but they're strange to say the least. But I digress. Good luck.

Tidy work there mate. I found the same plans, as well as the warhound ones, and thought they were too complicated, so went for a diffrent approach.

I like how this is going and look foward to more pic's!!

Re: My take on the Reaver

After messing about with the head, I decided I needed a bit more practise with plastic, so I'm building a few Chimera's, using the templates by Elli Patoroch (remember to scale down to 96%). Also I'm doing cad sketches of the critical components (maybe all of them), as I want to change the head and feet a bit. Don't expect much on this side of the summer.

Re: My take on the Reaver

It looks like I'm back in business, kind of anyway. I've reverted back to the "old school" Reaver, only real big difference is that I'm doing it in plastic. The head is mostly done, it just needs a bit more filler the Pelvis is nearly there, next will be legs and feet as I want to get the pose for the lower body done before I start on the upper body. As I went through the plans by LackOffBetterName, I noticed that the guns where not quite to my liking, so I've been doodling a bit, I guess I will leave the guns at that for now as it is extremely difficult to get a feel for the size without the rest of the titan done. I quite like the sketch for the Plasma cannon, but I am not sure what to do with the Vulcan Mega Bolter. Have a look and please do leave a comment if you have any suggestions either regarding size or looks:

You'd better design a new one, I've gotten so much practise on them that they're almost easy
