Progress on the bikes sofar:
I've glued the wheels together and painted them. Then I glued the two halves of the bike bodies (chassis?) together and attached the wheels. I've also given the bikes a coat of Boltgun metal.
Pics will come later.

looking forward to seeing them
A work in progress shot:
Since that pic was taken I have continued on one of the bikes to test the colour scheme:

the test bike is looking good thus far.
and just a question of curiosity, are there any differences in the bikes you had from a few years ago compared to the ones they have out now? *i see an older box and a newer one.
As far as I have seen there are no differences on the plastic frames, but the old box came with a bunch of extra metal parts - a few heads, shoulder pads, holsters, a power sword and so on. Quite bad sculpts IMHO...
I'm not planning on using that many of these parts, especially not the heads which I think are just plain horrible! Perhaps I'll use the holsters and the shoulder pads (the horned daemon skull fits well with the Word Bearers).
thanks for posting that stuff up.
looks interesting sure enough. the head with horns and skull...and the one in the middle i am going to dub "can opener" are a bit strange. and that army looks alot like the berzerker ones from GW as well.
hope to see some more work done on the test bike and thanks again for showing me some of the 'classic' parts
The bikes are now stuck to their bases and somewhat assembled:
A lot more to do of course before the riders can be added. The front plate, handles and bolters for example...
The bike at the back will be my aspiring champion's ride, hence the converted exhaust pipes (Gargoyle heads from Chaos tank kits)
Hi there! Back again after a far too long break from painting
Progress on the Chaos bikes has been slow, but now they're starting to look somewhat finished. Some washing to do on the metal rims and the banding on the exhaust pipes will be painted Brazen brass when I come around to it. After that I'll add the handlebars and the bolters.
I'll admit I'm looking forward to painting the riders a lot more than the bikes themselves! Somehow the riders seem more interesting - maybe because I've already got some ideas for how to use pieces from my bitz box with them.
Stay tuned...
Well, progress on the bikes has been truly pitiful over the last weeks! But I guess getting married could be an acceptable excuse...
I've glued the steering handles to the bikes, but not gotten much further. The next thing in line is the boltguns (only managed to paint these black sofar). I've also started a bit on the rider's legs.
Right now I feel like starting an Ork horde instead! But I'd better finish these bikers first...![]()
Finally an update! I've attached the bolters to the bikes (and painted them even!), and I've also painted and attached the riders legs.
I'm trying out different colours for the buttons and viewscreen on the handle, but I think I will go for a dark green colour scheme. I tried with red and yellow, but it didn't really fit with the all the dark red, metal and black on the bikes.
Next in line will be the torsos and backpacks.

As I wrote in the last post, I've been trying out different colours for the buttons and viewscreen on the bike control panels. In the end I went for Dark Angels green with a Snot green highlight and a Gloss varnish finish.
The result:
I have to admit that it looks a lot better from a distance...![]()
Back for an update today. Finally finished painting the torsos and backpacks:
With those out of the way I can start thinking about which arms and heads to use on my bikers.
After some deliberating I came up with this list for my six bikers:
Aspiring Champion with Power Fist and the right hand on the handlebar.
Chaos Marine with Melta Gun in right hand and the other on the handlebar.
Chaos Marine with Melta Gun in left hand and the other on the handlebar.
Chaos Marine with Bolt Pistol in right hand and the other on the handlebar.
2x Chaos Marines with both hands on the handlebar.
On to painting the arms then!
Update: the arms are all done! Currently working on the shoulder pads. I'll have some pics up soon.
Some pics as promised:
Aspiring Champion with Power Fist
Chaos Marine with Melta Gun
Chaos Marine with Melta Gun
Chaos Marine with Bolt Pistol
2x Chaos Marines
Still a few things to do with these:
- Paint the heads and glue them on
- Apply the transfers
- Add some bitz (holsters, grenades, trophys etc.)
- Fix the bases
After the bikes are finished I don't think I'll want to see red paint for a while, so next up will be a couple of Ork Nobz (intended to be the start of a Death Skullz warband)
Finally finished the bikers! Well, sort of. Still have the bases to do and add some details. I usually add script using Skull white to my Word Bearers armour to represent religious writing, so this is on the to-do list. On to the pics!
Group shot:
Aspiring champion:
Note the converted exhaust pipes - I used gargoyle heads from the a Chaos tank kit to make them a bit more ornate for the champion. Regarding the pose I wanted the champion to look as if he raised his fist and ordered his men to attack.
Melta gunner:
The arm holding the gun originally held a plasma pistol, but I chopped it off and glued the melta gun on instead. I know melta guns are usually held with two hands, but when riding a bike it's quite difficult to achieve! I reasoned that since marines can do just about anything in the fluff, they should be perfectly able to fire a melta gun with one hand...

Melta gunner 2:
The arm holding the melta gun started its life holding a chainsword, but i hacked off the sword and added the gun. This was not as easy as with the previous melta gunner, since this arm had no pistol grip in the hand. I solved this by cutting off and then gluing the bottom of the melta gun grip to the underside of the hand. I wanted this guy to look as if he was about to reduce some poor victim to molten slag, and I think the pose does that justice!
Bolt pistol:
Fairly standard pose here. I wanted him to look as if he had seen something on the side of the road and started firing away!
Biker:
For this marine I went with the standard biker pose - just cruising along.

Biker 2:
This one was also given a standard pose.
And that was the last of them! Just some small details left to do on them and then I'll finally get to move on the the next project...WAAAGH!
I've experimented on painting Ork skin on my plastic Nob (he came with WD when AoBR was released), and I'm quite happy with the method I came up with: basecoat with Orkhide shade, drybrush with Knarloc green (leaving Orkhide shade in the recesses) and finally a drybrush of Goblin green. Simple (required IMO when painting a horde of Orks), but still effective.
As I wrote earlier I intend to let this Nob be the first member of a Death Skull warband, so I'd better go out and get some blue paint!

The Ork is coming along nicely I think. It's so refreshing to paint something different once in a while!
I've done a lot of basecoating sofar, but no washing or highlighting yet:
He'll be mostly brown, black and metal (and green of course!) with some blue details.
Back with an orky update today! The Death skull Nob is nearly finished, and I think he turned out well. This is the first ork I paint, though I painted a lot of orcs for Warhammer back in 1996-1998 when I got into the hobby. Looking back I can see that my painting skills has improved a lot since then! This is also the first time I use the new washes (mainly Devlan mud and Badab black) on a model. I've used the old inks until now, but they're out of production so I guess I have to switch over.
A quick overview of the paints used:
Skin: bascoat with Orkhide shade, drybrush with Knarloc green (leaving Orkhide shade in the recesses) and finally a drybrush of Goblin green
Metal: Boltgun metal, Tin bitz and Dwarf bronze washed with Devlan mud and Badab black
Clothes: Scorched brown, Chaos black and Bestial brown washed with Devlan mud
Blue details: Modian blue highlighted with Ultramarines blue and Space wolves grey
White details: Dheneb stone followed by Skull white
Teeth and claws: Iyanden darksun followed by Bleached bone and a wash of Gryphonne sepia
Wrist bands and topknot band: Khemri brown and then Dheneb stone
Front:
Back:
I really like the battle damage on the blue and white shoulder pad and the Death skull symbol on the axe!
Next up is someone even bigger and badder - a Meganob!
