Top Tier films? The Descent? Dog Soldiers?![]()
I am currently looking to shift a sizeable amount of Chaos Space Marine models, including Dark Vengeance Cultists/Chosen/Helbrute/Lord, Fantasy Chaos Knights, a Dark Apostle, Fantasy (Finecast) Chaos Lord, Warp Talons, Possessed and painted models with Forge World parts. Send me a message if you're interested!
Erg, really? Sequal cash in for the lose. I found the original subversively funny, about the only time I've ever enjoyed a Lindsey Lohan film. Her dad is THE Janitor, man! Oh and it was written by Tina Fey.
There are two other teen style films that I have found about as enjoyable, but for different reasons.
Sugar and Spice - this is hilarious satire. The stupidity of the story is perfect and Cyclops is great in his role. I mean it has Mena Suvari as a pregnant cheerleader. It's just plain absurd, which is kind of why I found it funny.
Easy A - it's hard to believe that 25 years after the classic teen genre films that they'd be able to revive it, but IMO they did. This was a very clever film with genre savvy characters that made the film far more interesting. The protagonist's parents are hilarious (Stanley Tucci of all people). It certainly surprised me (had low expectations).

"Humanity's Insignificance pales in comparison to its Ego." (Sir Rumplestiltskin)
"The capacity to think does not assign importance to your thoughts, it merely indicates you can." (Sir Rumplestiltskin)
Cinderella Man (2005)
Rocky with fedoras. Despite being a true story, could still have done with some gangsters being involved, maybe a knife fight. Still a solid sports film, surprisingly powerful in places.
Rent, or more realistically watch it on TV, assuming you don't have something better to do.
The Descent being critically acclaimed and Dog Soldiers being popular (particularly in the UK), both in my opinion count as the best horror films of their respective year (apart from possibly Wolf Creek in 2005, possibly Bubba Hotep in 2002 and definitely 28 Days Later in 2002 - but then again I perfer 'serious' films like 28 Days rather than 'silly' films like Dog Soldiers) - and for British films to be the best at anything is usually a bit of a stretch.
Ah, I thought I could hear this playing in the other room - what channel was it on?
Agreed on 28 Days Later. The Descent didn't hold my interest and my key memory of Dog Soldiers is watching it with the ex, while the squad is hiding out in that cottage and they go to make tea: we both looked at one another, went into the kitchen to do likewise and just didn't bother with the rest of the film. Granted, it was pretty funny in parts.

just to clarify-
Opening with zombie pirate ninja robot trope, and ending with a word play based on the illustrious bard's 'Boom! shake the room'
One should not consider it Orsen Wells tier(but really how often do you find anything up there esp sci fi/horror), and those put off by my review style, its deliberate as a filter process and,you should probably not watch it..anyone slightly peeved by my writing style on the matter would find watching the film to be like being trapped in the middle of the back seat between 2 fighting children on a car journey.
I fell in love with the film when the rabbit exploded in a verhoeven maximum caliber overkill style and I stand by it being a good mashup.![]()
@killmaimburn: Sorry, I have not the slightest idea what your post with all the "ticks" is about.
I don't care too much about House honestly. It's nice that Hugh Laurie is having this great international success but the series itself...meh.
@Easy E: I loved Starship Troopers 3. You're absolutely right, it IS a worthy successor of the first film.
@spetswalshe: Dragon Fighter sounds like very much fun (it's probably a bore really but anyway). I didn't know it had Dean Cain in it so I might have to give it a watch some day. Never watched Dog Soldiers but I have to disagree on calling Bubba Ho Tep a horror film just because it has a mummy in it.At the moment I can not really decide what it is but horror this is now. It's probably an ensemble piece (with a very small ensemble really).
Bad Boys (i don't know, was it 1996?)
You most probably know this already. It's a cop action film/comedy with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith being the cop buddies.
I remember liking this when I was much younger but then everybody's an idiot when they're much younger. It's pretty loud, it's straining due to people talking all the time but at least it's not as terrible, terrible, terrible as the sequel. And I like Will Smith. I guess there's some sort of good chemistry between the protagonists (Smith and Lawrence as bickering married couple) and there were one or two funny lines but really, it's no work of greatness.
Only watch it to be able to say that this isn't as terrible as the sequel. Otherwise, just don't pay too much attention to it.

Pirates of the Longest Franchise's Evar Part 12
(Only joking).
A rip roaring return to form full of fantastic sets, superb acting, brilliant choreography and quick footed sword play, and just as funny as ever. An injection of (the fountain of youth) into what some thought long dead.
I look forward to the 5th!
Verdict: Must See
Priest:
Went to see this movie on a whim on Saturday as the only alternatives were Thor (3D only) and Pirates 4 (simply don't care).
The story of Priest is based on the Korean comic of the same name and is set in the near future in an alternate universe where humans and vampires (yes, again with the vampires) have fought each other since the dawn of time. The incessant wars have destroyed most of the planet and mankind is forced to retreat to fortified cities under the guidance of the (catholic) church. Then the Priests are "found" and turn out to be the ultimate weapon to defeat the vampires. It's never explained just what makes these Priests such great fighters, but the movie seems to imply they have some sort of lightnigh reflexes/bullet-time ability.
Either way, vampires are eradicated (although some still live in reservations for some reason) and man slowly starts to reclaim the wasteland, Fallout-style. Priests are forced to reintegrate into society but most don't adapt very well. And this is where the story starts.
Personally I though it was a decent monster movie with some good action sequences and decent enough acting. The cities reminded me of Blade Runner and the dominating, brain-washing church had a strong 40K vibe to it. I read some reviews afterwards that seemed to be mostly negative though. Went I went to look up stome more details on the story that weren't made clear in the movie, I noticed that the story is actually entirely different from the comic except that is about a (catholic) priest, which I thought was kinda strange.
Final verdict: rent
From what I read Priest was basically edited to death due to studio intervention
Do you know what was edited most heavily, Sigur?

Judging priest by the trailer it always gave me a sort of Judge Dredd vibe (the Stalone movie) to it. So it's a decent movie and thus worth watching it in the cinema?
House of Dio: 2000pts Eldar (Locked away in the Freezer or are they)
Order of the Winter Rose: 1500pts Sisters of battle
The Hell Korps: 2000pts Death Korps of Krieg
Having never seen Judge Dredd I cannot answer your question, however I thought it was an enjoyable movie with some interesting fights and a decent story (although there are some vague bits in there too). I'd give it a go if you like post-apocalyptic low tech sci-fi.
I wanted to see this film but I ppl had told me it was a miss-match of numerous action/horror films and was crap, so never went tbh.
Anyone seen 'Blitz' or 'Hannah' wanted to go see 'Hannah' but the girlfriend think its too scary?
Hanna was incredibly quirky, brilliantly shot, possessed an epically suitable soundtrack and was outstandingly acted throughout. The action is brutal, the characters devilishly likeable and the plot passable - all in all, utterly worthwhile watching!
The King's Speech
This movie is just really, really good. It's mainly a two-person show with Colin Firth as Prince Albert "Bertie" (soon to be George VI) and Geoffrey Rush as Lionel Logue, his speech therapist. Really excellent acting from Firth (Helena Bonham Carter is good in her supporting role as his wife Elizabeth), good production values, and thoroughly enjoyable.
As an odd aside, watchers of "Harry Potter" may find it interesting that Dumbledore is the aging King of England, Bellatrix LeStrange is married to the new King, and Wormtail is set to be the next Prime Minister!
Verdict: Watch It
"Ember of Dreams"

as linked above.. A variant of the rule of cool is to combine many awesomes together.(commonly referred to as Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot)
The single sentence quantities/events of cool checked off are to establish which awesomes have been thrown together.
A similar format would be;
A Liger
John Claude van damme.
Coen brothers.
or
Giant
Flying Mutant
Sharks
with frikking lazers.
As linked above the only problem is "Strong Bad's words of wisdom: "Too much of a good thing is an awesome thing. But too much of an awesome thing is...umm...really, really dumb and bad." "
Xmen: First Class
I got to see this early this morning, I'm a huge marvel/xmen fan so I might not be able to keep an unbiased view on this film.... but it was amamzing... blew the 3rd and 2nd out of the water... As you guys knw it was a re-boot of sorts. Pretty decent, and the plot was okay... there were somemoments like
The cast was decent, even the a certain cameo was good.
me and the girlfriend enjoyed it and kept us entertained all the way throu, my only two gripes were
Watch it
