I have seen Six String Samurai- It is okay. The set-up is great! The movie doesn't quite deliver.

    A few other Post-Apoc Movies:

A Boy and His Dog- You've read the book, now see the film! Starring Don Johnson!
Children of Men- Not Nuclear, but still after a big Collapse.
28 Days/28 Weeks Later- Ack! Zombies.... kind of....
The Omega Man/I am Legend/Last Man on Earth- Again, not Nuclear.
On The Beach- Ah.... delicious Nuclear Apoc.
Threads/The Day After- More Nukes, and pretty depressing
    Reign of Fire- Dragon Apocalypse!
Cherry 2000- Cheesy 80's Apoc and a USA Up-All-Night classic!
Hell comes to Frogtown- Rowdy Roddy Piper Apoc!
DefCon 4- Had a great video box cover. that's all a I recall.
Night of the Comet- 80's valley girls tweens vs. the Apoc.
Omega Doom/2019: After teh Fall of New York/2020 Texas Gladiators- 80's Cheese!

    This list might help....

It was already mentioned by the poster asking for recommendations.

Maybe not quite what you're looking for but can I also recommend When the wind blows

Oooh, that was a fun one.

@blackcherry: Yes, there was the audience already but he (some others too but mostly Bay) set the bar deeper and deeper each time they got to do their insanely-funded ventures.

I have actually read the novel and seen the film and I never even guessed that they are supposedly the same thing (the book is a lot better).

Would City of Lost Children count as post-apoc? Or just weirdly dystopian?

I wouldn't put that as post apoc, but maybe Delicatessen might qualify.

Re: Mini Movie Reviews 2 - The Reviewening

Technically, post-apoc is anything that occurs "after" some sort of world shattering event. That leaves it pretty broad.

Of course, there are also sub-niches depending on how pendantic you want to get.

Edit: Freak all ready mentioned The Road, so I skippe dit. I haven't seen the movie, but I read the book. You can see my thoughts on it in the Mini-Book Review thread.

    Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Can honestly say i never read the book nor watched the previously made film based on teh book. Definitely a great watch, though as with films based upon suspense I don't think I would be able to watch it again, definitley more of a film to watch rented or at the cinema, not bought. Also the cover of Kashmir in the intro is SWEET.
    7-8/10

    Friends with Benefits
Fairly good comedy, which tackles rom com with a good sense of banter based towards both sexes, I could watch this film again, with well plotted moments for extra laughs and cringes.
    6/10

    Thor
Too Vague, too shiny; I had some real high hopes for this film and though it does portray some great cinematic qualities I find this to be the sole excuse of why i watch teh film the whole way through. I just think characters needed some more explanation other than Thor, Thor, Thor... I am aware the film is about Thor
    3/10

    Conan the Barbarian
Have to say I quite enjoyed this film despite being sceptical from the trailers, the action scenes ,which are a plenty, are great and captured well. Though the story lacks a little substance, in particular it's ending, I find the gaps and the introduction are great; If anything this film proves Stephen Lang proves to be a great antagonist and perhaps I find his role (Khalar Zym) more memorable than Jason Momoa's (Conan).

    I'd call them surrealistic.

    Under New management

This is a rom-Com about a big shot investment banker who goes back to help reform a crew of aging mobsters, and the FBI agent who falls for him.

This had some funny parts as we see the mobsters use some of their old ways in their new "legit" jobs as Real Estate brokers.

Some very heavy handed subtext about how Stock Brokers, Business People, and Real Estate professionals are all morally equivalent to mobsters anyway, so why do we criminalize some but not others. Very heavy handed, so much that it might not even be called subtext anymore.

Enjoyable, but not recommendable. Plus, I think the premise could have been milked for more funny.

Re: Mini Movie Reviews 2 - The Reviewening

The Innkeepers: A very recent ghost movie about a couple of hotel staff that try to do some ghost-hunting in their place of employment before it closes down for good.

Sara Paxton is brilliant in this - her reaction to one scare in particular is brilliant

The movie has a kind of old school feel to it. It reminds me more than a little bit of Kubrick's The Shining in the way it very slowly builds tension. However, the story promises much, and ultimately doesn't deliver The ending feels very disjointed, and doesn't do anything with any of the cues that are sprinkled throughout the plot.

There are a couple of good scares and some freaky scenes, but it is very slow boil, and really doesn't pay off in the end.

Maybe worth a watch if you like ghost stories. Otherwise, pass.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Hollywood version)

Saw this yesterday with the Mrs. She has both the book and the Swedish DVD, but it was all new to me.

Very well done, kept me absorbed throughout. Lisbeth was very good as the savant who is antisocial but not in a "cute way".

A very bleak film though. I had a bit of a problem with
It was "good" in that it didn't spare the horrible reality (you'd have got the idea with the door slamming, typically Hollywood), but then again, I go to see movies to be entertained, and I nearly walked out at that point.

I lost count of the number of road accidents (fatal and otherwise) that are shown or alluded to. Either there was a very efficient decades-long conspiracy happening or Swedes are really bad drivers.

Certainly worth a Watch, but not suggested for a first date...or to take your parents to...

Re: Mini Movie Reviews 2 - The Reviewening

The House Of The Devil: Okay, this one surprised me bigtime. A 2009 film I had never heard of until a few days ago, and it is almost perfect.

If you like old school horror - think The Exorcist, The Shining, those older films that slowly build suspense and have you on the edge of your seat and avoid cheap scares and excess gore, this one is for you.

Although it was filmed in '09, it has been made as if it's an 80s film, using technology from the era to evoke that kind of feel.

The pacing is brilliant, the characters and sets suitably creepy, and it never jumps the shark.

    Pure, classic, scary horror.

WATCH. Personally, I will be buying.

Post-apocalypse; Doomsday (Neil Marshall), where Scotland becomes a quarantine zone for the infected population. When there's another outbreak in London, a small team is going in to find survivors. Not surprisingly, the survivors are not very cooperative.

Fun, so WATCH, especially if you like the Mad Max movies.

    Your Highness:

I recently bought this movie and have to say it's a very good fantasy film . I'm surprised it didn't do well at the box office as it well worth watching. I managed to buy it for £5 and have to say it was worth the money.

    4/5 stars

    The Mist

Frank darabont and most of the cast of 'the walking dead' under siege in a grocery store by some gribblies that inhabit a freaky mist.

The film starts off great and the ending is fantastic, i do think the middle section is sped up a little too much. I would have liked to have seen more of the politics between the groups in the store.

    Watch

Yeah I liked The Mist. I think they showed too much of the gribblies, but the politics inside the store was fascinating to watch unfold. I'll have to watch again, I think, even though I know how it ends
