Well, last weekend I was away but I managed to get some work done this weekend. I took out three 'mini' canal channels and filled them, as best I could with more offcuts and things, so I could pave over them. I did, however, leave one with a 'grate' over the front of it, and am putting in some details that nobody will probably ever see.

As these 'pools' were going to be unlit, I decided to give them a white undercoat and a very light colouring to them, that way people might notice, if they looked closely enough... The second chamber back will be easier to spot, mainly because there will be a big chemical tank with pipes running into this chamber.

Now, you may remember, for my park, I had two problems, one being that the vinyl grass mat looked totally rubbish, two that the tac stuff I used on the trees was -STILL- sticky... after THREE YEARS! Seriously... never using that stuff again...

Decided I would get some new trees and spray paint them alien colours, but ended up finding some really cheap trees (50p each) which were a bit simple, so a bit of spray and it's easy to believe they are slightly off world... I did, however, end up with entirely unalien colour scheme... oh well... purples on my next planet... Anyway, I like these trees so instead of mixing trees up, I am going to get about 9 more and then fill up the space.

On the plus side, I may have done a warhammer 40,000 first here. I have flowers on my terrain, ha, I don't think I've seen that before... probably...

The new grass mix is from my 'green' flock box, which bascially is a mixture from about 10 different brands of things ranging from static grass, to various forms of flock and green bits. The ultimate plan for that box (and the reason it's so big and mixed up) is because I plan to use it to base the grass outside the space marine diorama and then also base the space marine models with the same mixture, so it should make the bases look consistent.

And then there is the first of the sprayed, but not 'washed' fence posts. Didn't think I'd just leave the canal free for everyone to fall into, surely? I was going to have fun cutting these fences up, but to my relief, they actually bend at tight angles and almost never snap. Got to love people that make flexibly scenery!

And finally, as you will see from the middle picture from the previous post, I got myself a nice tub of paint from a DIY store, colour is called 'soft black' but I like to think of it as 'roadside tarmac black'...

I had a bit pot of paint, I poured a -little- into a paint tray to roller the roads on... Which I did... And had a ton left... So I took a brush and filled in some holes... then ended up using up all the paint and pretty much covering everything that wasn't going to be paved over with 'sidewalk'... or 'pavement' as we call it.

And here as I was painting over the section that previously had the two first buildings outlines in their positioning, I left an outline... bit like a murder victim... "Yes officer, this is where the buildings were killed"

Looking good, shame a lot of the canal had to go, but it will make for a more playable board.

Playable? I don't play games with these things...

Now, it being mothers day tomorrow over here, I'm not going to get a chance to work on this stuff tomorrow, so I stole some time there today while the missus went shoe shopping for an upcoming wedding. Personally, I'm surprised I didn't get even more time than I did, heh heh.

I bought and spray painted another 8 trees (These trees may not look brilliant, but at 50p each, I cannot complain!)

I also added a few more flowers into the garden and then you may remember some fountains a while back, which have now made it back onto the board. Not gluing them down in case I decide later they are rubbish, but we'll see next week when the 'realistic water' has dried. The PVA and paint mix certainly went a bit funny at the last coat, so not sure how it will turn out...

Either way, here are a few shots of the park, near finished.

Under the older, more religiousy buildings, I added some 'concrete' floor, courtesy of cereal boxes... Also, for the 'tower' I got another wall section and tore it up, glued it to itself and put it in the gap. I figure some buildings, when they collapse must surely maintain some of the structure rather than just disintegrate into rubble, so I'm looking to maintain that 'freshly damaged' look by keeping a good deal of the missing bit from the tower, in one solid mass.

I was in London earlier this week on business and since dark sphere was on my way home (thank you jubilee line) I popped in, and managed to pick up some walls. Mucked around with a few different permutations of places I could put them and ended up taking them to the 'industrial' building. Since today I also bought some 1/48 scale WWII 'service trailers' (which included a little tractor, I found a layout which used all the wall pieces, took them to the edge of the board and didn't waste any (albeit that there will be a gap where the grating over the second 'pool' area is) by adding a little 'yard'

Either way, I couldn't get a good shot (I deleted 5 others) so the shot that shows the wall layouts is blurry, for which I apologise, but there's a nice one at eye level.

Next up, I measured and cut up some foamboard ready to make a large 'industrial building' Though the floors are going to be shallower than cityfight terrain, at a humble 6cm each, the building will be four floors high for the industrial bit, with gantries around the edges on the inside. Then, a fifth floor, will be a citfight terrain sized floor, being the 'administration' office for the building.

And finally some random pics. You'll notice 3 more trees arrive and some further low walls in place near the religious block.

    More next week!

Isn't that always how it goes? At any rate, everything looks stupendous so far. The 1/48-scale tractors are a great addition, and I like the park. I wonder, though, if you should shred or damage one of the trees to simulate a stray round from the nearby building demolition.

    Best wishes!

I didn't get a chance to go to the unit this weekend, but when I do, I'll take note of the kit. I think it was Revell, but I can't find it on their website, so I'll get you a pic of the box.

The police used to have some sort of travelling roadshow police station thing in the little village where my cabin resides. Government cuts forced them out and I took over. They left me some bits, which I may one day return to my local station, though probably no longer planning on using all the police magazines, little bobbley things and keyrings... I'll keep the pinboard.

I have done some updates on the factory building, will see if I can transfer the piccies over before I go to work.

    Re: Dannage's Imperial Forgeworld!

Okay, got a very messy initial covering of paint on this building, largely to try and create a barrier between my intent to spray paint it and the little exposed foamy bits. When you do very thin passes with aerosol cans they don't tend to melt as much anyway, but I find a little barrier either of pva (on exposed edges of foamboard) or paint also helps.

On the inside, we have 3 walkways

That block on the right hand side, apart from providing a little stability (another bit will be added closer to the near corner, when I have it back at the workshop) also forms to create an 'elevator' block. The pegasus walkways then have a door on the right hand side, so the building has a four storey elevator.

Upstairs I decided while the factory would be grey and typically 40k, the office should be a bit more like a Tommygun bit of scenery, i.e. bright and officey...

Little mosaic tiles from hobbycraft, unfortunately had to go buy a second pack of the main colour only to find it was a slightly different shade but, meh, only noticeable in good light... Is nice to have a shiny texture though, so I don't really want to paint them.

Next task for this place is to make some office furniture out of some bits I've bought.

The office walls have been given their initial coating of space wolves grey, I have a couple of questions out there for artists, as I'm seeking permission to use their art work on 'posters' in the walls here, but I'll also do some sales charts and the like. I got some good figures for use in the factory itself, but I think the office manager will probably be the figure from the battle for macragge set, carrying the little box and pistol.

For the 'polystyrene ceiling tiles' I went for a much cheaper option. kids foam sheets. I mainly bought the foam sheets so I could make a large number of fallen tiles for the building in the other corner (with the purple and blue tiles) but I wanted a cheap way of doing it. The foam was 79p for an A3 sheet, much cheaper for the coverage than the mosaic tiles (£2.49 per pack - took about a pack and a half to make the office floor)
