Thread: Dannage's Imperial Forgeworld!

    Re: Dannage's Imperial Forgeworld!

As I say, I was working on the weekend, but I managed to sneak an hour or two after work last night. I felt guilty leaving as early as 6.25, but then I did get in at 8 and worked through lunch again so... yeah.. I'm entitled to hobby time.

Nothing groundbreaking in here, just random progress on buildings.

Cool ! Like the crowded look of your board. Lots of things blocking LOS. Id be very carefull playing IG on it anyhow, CC armies will have a field day

Once the two armies are on it, I don't think there'll be an inch of empty space.

That board is coming along very nicely Dannage, the truck in the canal is a particularly nice touch. Can't wait to see it finished with the Leviathan on it!

Forgot to mention, the other project on the list, probably come before the fortress given the space that one will need, is an Ork Gargant konstruk site, complete with multi-stages-of-development gargant. Next time they run a narrative weekend I'm at, I'll be sure to make it a special objective and results of games over which it's fought will determine if the gargant is 'more built' next time they play. Should add an interesting dimension to it... But three more to take care of before this, so no rush...
Looks like I'm definitely going to have to up production on my Alpha Legionnaires...

Not much of an update. Did manage to get a good 4 hours in there today, but in recent days I've largely been chained to my xbox with minecraft. Various bits and bobs with more pavement, a layer of PVA/Paint/Water in the canal, which dried to give a sheen but no real 'depth' yet. Nuvver twenty or so coats probably... Have now put a fair amount of gubbins in the canal though, near some of the wrecked buildings. Also managed to assemble, paint and position a war buggy. Added a position for a sentinal, though time will tell if it will stick to that particular bit of scenery. I may also move him further back round the corner, since he is currently going to be smack bang in the middle of the entire Ork Horde!

A first layer of ez water. Decided to put some troopers in the canal too. Was a bit of a challenge, having only 2 hours to assemble, spray undercoat, and give them a quick lick of paints (especially as it seems my fortress grey has disappeared!) so I could lay the water in that section. Realised after pouring it over them, that I hadn't done the camo on the blue. oops... Still, when they dry, I should be able to paint the camo on... maybe...

Will give that lot 4 days to dry, come back to it at the weekend if I can, get another layer on... I'll be interested to see if, when this layer dries, the newly milky white PVA dries clear again. Bit irritating putting down a layer of water and seeing the paint job underneath it suddenly change colour! If it does go a bit funny, I will try and see if I can paint the current layer with a murkyish wash, this time only paint and no PVA, then see if the next layer of water looks better!

Wow, when they say shrinkage will occur, they are not kidding. I guess I had hoped the PVA layer would have sealed it, but given that the first layer of water sort of reacted with the PVA, by the time I came back to the table last night all had appeared to evaporate. I added another layer, this time with some green food colouring (the scenics website said food colouring would be a good idea and at 84p, far cheaper than a GW wash!)

Didn't take a photo of that though, because the last six photos have been of very shallow water and it will be a bit boring until the layers actually build up. One solitary update pic for you today, and that is initial work on the church roof. The idea of making a hole was to draw people to look in and then hopefully notice I will have done some stuff for the inside of the church too.

Hmmm, two and a half bottles of realistic water in, and still only a few milimetres thickness... Thinking of moving onto different materials. Google is suggesting polyester resin. Anybody worked with this before and if so, what was your experience with it like?

Interesting stuff! I've been meaning to play around with water effects for a while. I don't have any experience of polyester resin I'm afraid, but keep us posted.
