Thread: FFG 40k RPGs Update thread

Re: The Dark Heresy/ Rogue Trader update thread

Given the rather scattershot approach to Eldar information (which stands in contrast to most of the other factions), I'm hoping that's the plan. It would make sense if the reason why FFG hasn't put more than a smattering of Eldar information in any one location is because they're planning on publishing a "Big Book of Playing Eldar" in the near future.

Re: The Dark Heresy/ Rogue Trader update thread

The eldar stuff is really scattered. I saw some rules from a RT adventure for a farseer and I know Dire Avenger Dark Heresy rules exist. But Deathwatch level eldar are non-existant at this time.

It would make the most sense to have them in RT or their own game if they were playable.

Re: The Dark Heresy/ Rogue Trader update thread

I think the majority of Eldar related stuff, at the moment, is indeed in Dark Heresy with a few mentions in Rogue Trader and its virtually non-existant in Deathwatch. Deahtwatch seems to primarily focus on Tyranids and Tau with a little Orks as well as Daemons.

So if anything, the Orks won the war in heaven.

Not just virtually. There's nothing at all on them. There's not even a hint of their presence within the Jericho Reach (i.e. the Deathwatch setting), which explains why FFG has kept them out of Deathwatch so far.

And when you consider that even rumors of metal men get a mention in the Deathwatch rulebook, that really must mean that either there are absolutely positively no Eldar at all within the Reach, or they're in hiding.

For what it's worth, I agree with you.

    :P

Particularly given that there's a warp gate that jumps you from one side of the galaxy to the other, four major factions fighting in the area (including Chaos forces from a mini-EoT), and

I'm confident that they're present. I'm just surprised that they're apparently laying so low that not even a small corsair fleet is operating in the region. Whoever they've got trying to manipulate events in their favor is apparently extremely subtle.

And the Eldar are absent from Deathwatch no longer.

The latest 'Achilus Assault' preview contains hints that the Eldar may have been connected to the disappeared leader of the Crusade in the Reach.

The Church of the Damned, an adventure for Dark Heresy, is now on sale at your local retailer and on our webstore! Investigating corruption within the Ecclesiarchy itself is as delicate as it is dangerous, but when an influential leader is suspected of heresy, you and your fellow Acolytes will uncover an ever-deepening conspiracy that could spell the end of the entire Calixis Sector...

The Church of the Damned is the second adventure in The Apostasy Gambit, a Dark Heresy campaign that takes a cell of Acolytes from investigating the tragic history of a warped Cathedral to crusading against a conspiracy within one of the Imperium’s most vaunted organisations. While The Church of the Damned continues the events started in The Black Sepulchre, it also includes starting points to be played on its own or as part of your own campaign.

Dark Heresy’s lead developer took the time to share his thoughts about The Church of the Damned, and how it seamlessly ties in to the events depicted in Black Sepulchre:

Dark Heresy is a game of investigation, and while there is plenty of action to be had, the core experience is one of mystery and conspiracy. The Church of the Damned sees the Acolytes embracing that role and leading an investigation into the heart of one of the Imperium’s most powerful organizations. Witnesses must be questioned, information researched, and crime scenes examined.

Of course, there is a good deal of combat too, with a variety of new and familiar foes. Hair raising, skin of your teeth, knock down, drag out combat. This may be the deadliest adventure we’ve ever written. Don’t expect to save the entire Calixis Sector and come away with all your fate points... or limbs!

The Maledictor’s Hand, a secret group of fanatical extremists, manipulates the Imperium from the shadows. You and your fellow Acolytes must hurry to stop their dark plot before it’s too late. But who can you trust?

    –Arbitrator Linger

The Calixis Sector is plagued with heretics, recidivists, and the unworthy...and they all dwell beneath the faithful servants of the God-Emperor, eroding the backbone of the Imperium’s war machine. Whether it is a planetary noble skimming off the top, or a seditious terrorist planning the destruction of an entire Hab-block, it is the Adeptus Arbites who bring them to judgement.

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Book of Judgement, a supplement for Dark Heresy!

Book of Judgement is a guide to crime and punishment in the Calixis Sector, and provides a powerful resource for Dark Heresy campaigns that feature Imperial Law as a story foundation. This detailed supplement contains new rules, backgrounds, alternate careers, and equipment for playing Acolytes with legal authority or a criminal past, and provides players with information about the Adeptus Arbites’ mission to bring order to the Calixis Sector. Game Masters of all experience levels will find expanded Investigation rules and a new adventure, Jurisdiction, that plunges the Acolytes into a conflict between three of the Imperium’s most powerful organisations.

    http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ff...adbury_2_2.png

    A Council of Judges

For more on Book of Judgement, here’s a word from Dark Heresy’s lead developer:

I count myself extremely lucky in having worked with the team responsible for Book of Judgement. In addition to such veteran talents as Graham Davey and Charles May, the group was joined by Matthew Farrer, author of the Shira Calpurnia novels from Black Library. It was a great pleasure to dive into the Adeptus Arbites of the Calixis Sector with the assembled team of writers and I can’t wait for this book to be in the hands of players.

We worked tirelessly to stuff this book full of useful tools for GMs and Players alike. All the usual suspects are here: new Cell Directives, Alternate Career Ranks, Backgrounds, and, of course, tons of background information on the precincts of the Lex Calixis. A chapter focused purely on the creation of compelling mysteries distills over fifty years of combined GM experience, offering exciting ways to craft your own mystery and drive a game session forward through the players’ actions. We even included Jurisdiction, a full adventure focused on the overlapping interests of three Imperial factions.

One of the pleasures of creating a book like this is getting to truly delve into the ancient histories of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Games Workshop has been crafting this game world for over two decades, which provides a wealth of information. Having an opportunity (or a responsibility) to read everything I could about crime and judgement was an quite an experience. The bleak, dare I say grim, nature of justice in the dark future is filled with twists, turns, interpretations, and executions. Bringing that feel to Book of Judgement was, frankly, a lot of fun!

Keep checking back in the coming week as we offer previews, and look for Book of Judgement on store shelves in the fourth quarter of 2011!

Rogue Traders are accustomed to earning their livings in the grey areas of the law, but a few brave or foolhardy captains take it a step further...

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce the next supplement for Rogue Trader, Hostile Acquisitions! Within this detailed book, players and GMs will find all they need to run a campaign on the far side of Imperial Law. From new characters and equipment to creating nemeses and running games based on criminal enterprise, Hostile Acquisitions is an invaluable resource on those Rogue Traders who are more rogue than trader.

    Crime often pays

    http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ff...10_artwork.png

For more on Hostile Acquisitions, let’s hear from lead developer of Rogue Trader:

Hostile Acquisitions has some particularly exciting aspects that were deviously fun to work on. One was the new character alternate career ranks, such as the Swashbucker, the House Operative, and the Cold Trader. These new alternate career ranks are highly flavourful, and allow you to make a character with a distinctively “scoundrel” bent. The House Operative is especially interesting, because it allows players to make characters who are essentially secret agents for a more powerful entity. They might even be working for the Rogue Trader’s dynasty’s interests, rather than the Rogue Trader, so players may take the role of an agent who may be secretly working against his own boss.

Another fascinating part of Hostile Acquisitions is the Nemesis Origin Path. A modification of the popular Rogue Trader Origin Path system, the Nemesis Path helps GMs craft a custom made adversary for their groups. The Nemesis Path actually ties into the Origin Path that the players fill out, so that the choices they make can determine the type of adversary they’ll go up against.

Of course, this is only some of the new content in this book. Hostile Acquisitions has new gear and starship upgrades to facilitate piracy and smuggling, a section on Imperial adversaries and details on Imperial Law, guidelines on how to run a “con” game, and a list of mythical treasures waiting to be “liberated.”

Hostile Acquisitions is a guide to crime for Explorers with a flexible sense of morality. A catalog of valuable treasures wait to be “liberated.” In short, Hostile Acquisitions is proof that in the Koronus Expanse, crime often pays.

Keep checking back over the coming weeks as we preview Hostile Acquisitions, and look for it on store shelves in the fourth quarter of 2011!

    –Rogue Trader Krawkin Feckward

Last month, Fantasy Flight Games announced Fallen Suns, the third and final instalment in The Warpstorm Trilogy for Rogue Trader. Today, we’re pleased to offer a preview of Fallen Suns by contributing writer John Dunn.

I was fortunate to have an opening in my writing schedule at the same time that the Rogue Trader development team needed an author for Fallen Suns. Working closely with Sam Stewart and Ross Watson, I crafted the plot details for the adventure, while Jason Marker fleshed out the Gazetteer section and created the game statistics for the adventure’s encounters.

    Raising the Bar

Fallen Suns is the final instalment of The Warpstorm Trilogy. Without spoiling too much, in The Frozen Reaches, the Explorers faced an Ork horde large enough to conquer a planet. During Citadel of Skulls, they confronted a well defended Chaos fortress. My first challenge was to identify a foe that offered a threat appropriate to follow what had come before.

Fortunately, the Koronus Expanse is a source of bountiful story hooks and phenomenal dangers. The region plays host to lost worlds, unknowable threats, and the constant dangers of the warp. The development team was kind enough to let me interweave some of the threats that had been hinted at previously. Pulling from the the first two books of trilogy as well as materials from the Rogue Trader Core Rulebook, Edge of the Abyss, and Lure of The Expanse, I worked with the rest of the team to develop an Eldar threat of titanic proportions.

    http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ff...fallensuns.jpg

Previous materials had established that some of the Eldar within in the Expanse are extremely hostile towards humanity. Fallen Suns reveals at least one of the reasons for that stance. The adventure challenges the Explorers to overcome this animosity at the same time that they must defend themselves from a threat that endangers the entirety of the Expanse. If the Explorers take care, they may unearth countless xenos secrets from this ancient threat at the same time as they recover priceless xenos artefacts and technology. Of course, the Explorers are not the only people within the Expanse interested in uncovering its secrets and harnessing its power.

If the characters succeed in overcoming their foes, the potential rewards are immeasurable. Their Profit Factor could skyrocket as human and xenos alike rush to show their gratitude. New information and technology could lead to countless new adventures, or it could be sold to those willing to exploit it. The Explorers might ensure the economic stability of their dynasty for generations or choose to expand in entirely different directions using their newly procured resources. Immeasurable vistas open for those who have saved the Expanse from such a dire threat.

Conversely, if they fail, their lives become far more challenging and potentially much shorter. The risks are dramatic, but the rewards are vast. For those Explorers willing to accept the chance of death and near-certain damnation as they confront overwhelming odds, the Endeavour presents an unparalleled opportunity.

    An Ongoing Saga

Unless the Explorers meet with tragedy, this adventure wraps up the end of an adventure trilogy but does not complete their story. There are countless additional tales to tell within the Koronus Expanse. Because of this, the scenario concludes by presenting a variety of new hooks that tie in to the revelations contained throughout The Warpstorm Trilogy. Depending upon their decisions, the Explorers may be anxious to seek vengeance and repayment from dozens of foes, or they might be fleeing their former allies. Both of these possibilities and their myriad variants are considered, as the Explorers prepare to embark upon their next Endeavour.

Keep checking back for more on Fallen Suns, and look for it on store shelves in the fourth quarter of 2011!

I really enjoyed Lure of the Expanse, great Eldar centric story. It will be interesting to see where they go with this. It would be nice to see more Dark Eldar, I dont know if theyve been in any Deathwatch supplements, though theyd be sweet in DH or RT
