    Lexxian IX "Sawtooths"

Welcome to my thread on what I hope will someday be a finished IG army.

Way back in the 3rd ed IG codex there was a small section on a little know regiment called the Lexxian 9th.

The brief description describes them as coming from a death world populated with many vicious predators. Each regiment would adopt one as a mascot, the 9th chose the Sawtooth, a feline predator that can grow to the size of a horse. It is claimed that a soldier must defeat one of these creatures before becoming a sergeant or officer. A trooper is allowed to wear a single Sawtooth fang for every successful campaign they have served in.

Ever since that small piece on this obscure regiment I have been captivated by it. This regiment is actually the product of nearly 4 years of planning. I've taken the core idea and expanded it. I'll post the background and regimental history in a later post.

For me I see the Lexxian troops as hardened figthers that use light infantry tactics such as scouting, inflitration, close quarter fire fights, stripped down kit etc. I've kit bashed this regiment from a variety of sources and this is the concept piece I came up with. I wanted to build an all plastic force and with only the one picture to go from I've got plenty of room to expand on.

This guy is actually going to be one of the squad sergeants, just need to add a bolt pistol, pouches and a few extras. Below is a group shot of the Regimental Command squad.

Medic, Standard Bearer, Commander, Master Vox Operator, Grenade Launcher Veteran.

A close up of the Commander, note the Sawtooth fangs on his belt, and on his armour. There's a fourth attached to the handle of his bolt gun.

So there it is, the beginning of my Lexxian 9th regiment. I hope that this project log will be of interest to all. I am running this log not so much for motivation, but for the great feedback and suggestions that everyone has.

Nice. I would suggest trying to make some more fluff on your regiment, and If you have the Catachans Codex, You may want to try and integrate the rules of the new codex with that of the Catachan codex to create a Hybrid Catachan Codex. Thats what I am doing at least.

Looks interesting. Have you thought of a color scheme yet? I look forward to seeing more.

Including some form of Sawtooth pelt on your commander would be cool.

I would suggest that the commander uses it, even if not riding it, you could make a really cool pet.

Great idea, like the models you have put together so far. Is there any information out there on colour schemes?

Looks very promising, Kravunhive! That concept model looks ace and the commander looks suitably 'ard (that greatswords head works well). Loving the background inspiration too; good ideas from others on using the High Elves' White Lion models.

    Looking forward to more!

Looking forward to some progress in this thread - it's nice to see you expanding on a small piece of fluff like this. How do you think you'll differentiate them from Catachans?

Try and get your hands on the old Catachan Supplement Codex thing. It may have been like second edition, but it doesn't take much to convert the rules into ones usable in Fifth Edition. All you would need to do is tweak the Deathworld vet rules, and maybe some of the rules for the different traps your able to lay.

    Re: Lexxian IX "Sawtooths"

Wow, the response has been amazing. Thank you everyone for your feedback, it is much appreciated. A few have asked about the paint scheme. Officially there isn't anything out there. Again with just the black and white picture to go from I've got free reign over the design. I've been thinking of black flack armour, webbing and pouches. For the fatigues I'm thinking either a very light brown or a light grey. I'll have to get a test mini up for reference.

As a regiment from a death world it is easy to see how they might get compared to Catachans. I guess they are similar but I see them as favouring infantry tactics and will have little or no use for tanks and heavy artillery. I would say they are hardened fighters who could serve in many different situations like urban/trench fighting or jungle warfare. The background I've written will explain a few things. I'll be posting that pretty soon.

I've included some more close up shots of the command squad for you all.

    Standard Bearer

    Vox Operator

    Medic

More come shortly. Currently I am working on the first two squads and the first of a trio of snipers. I cant wait to get some pictures up. Plan to do that by the end of the week.

    Re: Lexxian IX "Sawtooths"

Its been an age since I last updated this log. However my time hasn't been wasted as I've made considerable progress with the army... Well considerable for me anyway, plus its now June and I'm just getting round to posting this.

Over the months of Feb and March I built most of the infantry. I plan on having one Platoon; command squad and two infantry squads along with a Veteran squad or two, which have yet to be built. This will form the core of the armies gun line. In addition to this I still have to make an anti squad, a mortar squad, 2 sentinels and a Leman Russ. In a support role I also have a unit of snipers. A sneak peek of which I present below...

Progress is slow but I'm starting to get back into it. This weekend I plan to post pictures of the Platoon. I'll also have some background and regimental history posted to really get your imaginations going. Hopefully you'll like how I've fleshed out this obscure regiment. Also, if you have time, please check out my short fiction The Secundus; set in a dangerous penal colony.

    Until next time

This is looking really good! I love it when people take official but little known stuff and make it their own, it really adds something to the 40k universe. Subscribed!
