Looking really good. Where did you get the cyberpup model? Or is it hand-made?

    Keep it up.

He is beautiful, although it looks like he is either in massive rage, or about to cry...

Just a quick glimpse into the future of this retinue, probably this would be classed as a "scrap" on Deviant Art.

I'm going to do something a bit different this time, I'll paint one character in the usual manner and at the same time I'll be painting another and documenting the process stage-by-stage. Due to having limited windows where I can get decent pics this documentation will take a long time and means that I'll probably get 2 other characters painted in that timeframe. The stage-by-stage pics & text will be posted all at once, not as it's done.

Brilliant log you have here, great characters. Love your painting style too.

The only thing i dont like on the last one there (personal peeve) is the ball on the end of the glaive, looks a bit holy handgranadey. A simple spike would look more balanced imo.

    Re: =][= Witch hunters

Thanks! Since you mention it, I did consider a number of options for the stick (both ends). In the end I decided the glaive was a very nice weapon and characterful also. The weighted end I considered adding a blade aswell but came to think that a solid brass weight might be nice for smashing skulls (as he has a cutting edge already, I guess he can stab with this too) so the only modification I made was to file away the studs as they were a bit warped.

    Glad you like the blog!

    Re: =][= Witch hunters

    Thanks all!

Aurellis, this is how I did the red (though bear in mind I am not good at teaching and also bad at self-analysis so it's just a basic explanation)

For shading and hilighting I think the shading is a lot more important on large areas. For the red here I mixed some of the base colour (shab red) with some brown ink (not too much, the difference in tone for large areas doesn't have to be as pronounced as it does for smaller minis), a touch of valejo glazing medium, and loads of water, Then I did a controlled shade making sure not to apply too much at once and avoiding pooling. The shade was painted into the recesses instead of all over the robes. It took quite a few layers, and the deeper cracks got more layers. Then i did a glaze over the whole area.

Hilighting was minimal, it was scab red mixed with blood red (Approx. 2scab:1blood), and then added some orange to the mix for some areas.

For a 28mm mini I would have used several stages of hilights (maybe a 1:1 red mix and a final red/orange/beige mix) but for this model I felt less was better.

    Re: =][= Witch hunters

Primed this guy yesterday afternoon (made small conversion to the shoulder on Friday evening). This pic shows the undercoat colour and also which bits are painted separately from the main body of the miniature. In another change of plan I have decided to do a tutorial using this model with updates after each stage. Hopefully by painting in the evenings and taking pics in the mornings I can get decent pics without dragging the process out too much. Base coats going on tonight.
