Thread: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

    Dude;

you're AWESOME! Thank you so much! this is just perfect! That really made my life a whole lot easier. I have no idea how I can actually ever repay that...

By the way, you seem very knowledgable not only in the ways of sculpting but also crystals. I'm impressed. While I like crystals, sadly I'm very undereducated in that area, so thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Oh, and I'm pathologically fixated on symmetry, so I'll try my best to make these unnatural crystals.

I love that Hydra, my friend here just saw a pic of it and decided to redo his entire DE army in a wintry theme. Well done!

    @ Lew_b81
The hydra is mounted on the back of the base with an elongated tail to compensate for all the bulk of the heads. Because of this the centre of gravity is at the centre of the base, which makes this model well balanced. The only problem this brings with it, is that the centre of gravity is is in front of its legs. This causes some leverage and the first time I pinned the model it tore of a piece of the base so I had to reinforce the base so it would be sturdy enough.

    @ Ultimate Life Form
There is no need to return the favour. I learned a lot on forums like these, you take a bit you give a bit.
A pathological fixation on symmetry can be cured to some degree. I remember way back that I spend days searching for the right Lego bricks so my spacecraft would be perfectly symmetrical, not only in shape but also the individual brick colours and shapes so the pattern on both sides would be exactly the same. ^^

    @Asylsoekande
Well good luck to your friend then. I'd be happy if I could even finish painting one army. I'm still not sure what would be my greatest accomplishment, a project like this hydra or painting my 50 Dark Eldar warriors (I know some people her at warseer paint that many of models for breakfast, every day) .

And to everyone else thanks for your great comments it really motivates to keep on painting.

ghouls are incoming now, ist's just that the finishing touches take a bit longer than expected.

I want to see those ghouls finished. I really love the one with the flame-trower-hands, thats really great. I will borrow that idea sometime

Now hurry up with the rest of it!

    Ok, ok, here they are:

    This is the complete unit:

This picture contains some of the models of the second row, and the lighting in this picture is better so you can better see the details.

The next two posts will deal with some of the individual models

The mad (and slightly addicted) alchemist:

    That's it for now.

p.s. If anyone with experienced in making pictures of models could give me some advise on improving these that would be greatly appreciated.

I have to say, this unit you have just put up tonight is absolutely gorgeous!
i love how much individuality each one of them has, that is what i find makes a unit stand apart in a game or in an army made for display purposes.
Im quite chuffed that ive come online to find this delightful little piece appearing in front of me sir...
i thumbs up to you doubly...

Very sinister ghouls indeed. They look very good, I particularly like the metals, and you have a nice soft painting style.

My expectations were pretty high seeing your other models, but those ghouls are simple amazing. I really love them and the individuality they all got.

    Nothing but props! Whats next?

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

    I love the Hydra.
Also the undead conversions are wonderful.
The Flying witch being my favourite.
    Love to see more.

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

Its great to see that people like them.

@Cragum: I like the individuality of these models as well, I even made up some backgrounds for some of them. My main problem will be that in a 2k army I'm going to need more than 10 ghouls so I'll need to come up with even more twisted idea's

@richy376: Its a great compliment you like this "soft painting style". I've wondered whether I should use darker shading and black-lining and more contrast in general because it looks better under low light conditions. Eventually I stayed at this in my opinion more realistic lower contrast look.

@Balthar: The flying witch is one of my favourites as well. The conversion turned out as intended and I really like the whole sexy witch concept (btw practical magic is a great movie )

    Nothing but props! Whats next?
Probably the gamezone harpies, but after that? I'm not sure.

For DE I'll be holding my breath till the new dark riders arrive. And In the mean time there will be more than enough to paint: blackguards, a sorcerers (or two) and reaper boltthrowers are all possibilities.

For VC I'll be holding my breath till the new black knights arrive. In the meantime I'm considering converting a vargulf though I haven't found a good model as basis for this. Or converting a black coach. (really GW should cut down on their use of black and dark).

And then there is still my eldar and DE army, and the later are finally on horizon. (And yes I'm one of those poor chaps that started them when they where released and who's still dreaming about a new dex).

In short, I have no idea but there's bound to be something.

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

I'm not in the mood for painting so instead I started work on the vargulf conversion.

The concept behind this Vargulf: Like most Vargulf it used to be a normal vampire but lost him self to his predatory nature. Seeing that all that was left of him was a mindless killer the leader of this coven of vampires decided to give him a few modifications to make him an even more deadly killer.
His feet got cut of and replaced with claws on extended legs so it can run faster and pounce it prey.
And since it wasn't going to use its hands for any delicate work they got amputated and replaced with preying mantis like blades.

As for its head? I think this will just look better than a normal head.

Left the front, right the back, and further right the head, all wip ofc.

Oh and I finally know what I'm going to do for zombies, more about that when I have some pictures to show.

(to my wife)No sweety, I'm serious. I NEED like 12 packs of Skull Bitz. Skulls are like GRASS in this game. We all need to walk on SOMETHING!

After a detour painting and converting some of my eldar I'm back at fantasy. The vargulf has been put in the fridge for now, instead I've been working on the harpies.

So here are some WIP shots, I hope to get them finished shortly.

    Wow, looks nice

I'm looking forward to some closer pictures when they're done. I'm curious to see how those paint up, as I've been considering them for an army I'm planning.

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

Wonderful log. The DE are disturbingly beautiful (it's NOT ok when a model makes you go "oh, that's hot" a split second before you realize it's a ******* WARGAMES MINI you're looking at! ) and the VC are beautifully disturbing. All in all you've got tons of creativity and the talent to match. Looking forward to more!

    Cheers,

Your harpies look ridiculously good, too good for disposable core

So a question a few of us will be wanting to ask, what miniatures did you use for the bodies and wings?

Everything looking good as always. Still have not got over how good a Lahmian looks on a broomstick...
