Thread: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

    Big update time,

    lets start with some comments:

    The Lost Hobbit: Thank you.

Finn: yea I know what you mean, I really had to restrain my self not to repaint that model, its pretty old by now and I'm certain I can do better. A well I still have plans to make a truly big dragon at some point that would be a great time to do it better.

Scythe: While I didn't repaint the model I did retouch it, chipped paint, the teeth, and added some new snow to the base and made it dark grey to bring it in line with the rest of the army all in all less than half hour of work.

Lord Azoth: We can't have you dying now can we.

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

Finally the Blood Knights are done.

They are made from Gamezone Mournful Knights with lances made from skeleton spears and green putty.
It took me a few attempts to get the colours of this army working on the knights in a way that pleased me.
I was aiming for a combination of knightly, magical and dreadful.
Anyway pictures work better than words (at least for me).

    And the Champion:

    And two group shots:

Yes there is no way they'll ever fit next together :/

One more post with some two 3d images and I'm done spamming my own thread.

There arn't enough expletives to convey just how fantastic those Blood Knights are.

    You, are a genius.

Really why is there this 6 image limit?

Anyway two 3d pictures, cross your eyes gently till they overlap and then slowly relax.

One more unit done, I'm getting somewhere...slowly.

    Thats it for now.

Those Bloodknights are amazing! A really strong sense of "othernes" [for want of a better word].
I love the close-ups of the gargoyle/vargheist -really impressive work on the conversions giving them a really different aesthetic.
    Great stuff!

You did a killer job on those Mournfuls. How did you put the hands on? I still haven't assembled mine - partly from not playing WHFB in years, and partly from "screw this attach the weapon hand at the wrist" syndrome.

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

    Good evening:

silverstu: Otherness is good , and looking forward to seeing your blood knight(s).

Finn: Thank you. About the assembly, drill it with a very small drill (there are bits that fit in the GW hand drill that are smaller), rough up the pin and both sides of the part you want to glue, then glue it together with two component metal glue, and cursing, lots of cursing.

    Anvalous: ^^

Lord Azoth: No problem, planning on converting a few your self?

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

Because public transport decided to not do the whole transporting thing tonight I had some extra time to finish the Banshee.

Finn: Well they've fixed that for you, if you sniff enough of it you wont smell it ever again.

Grain Weevil: Thanks, I'm still not sure whether a 3 point per model unit was the best place to start crafting every single model by hand, but at least everyone likes the look of it.

The Banshee was a little tricky getting right and I'm not entirely sure about the skin, but this is it for now.

Great work on the banshee and the knights. I really like how your purples turned out, also in combination with your light teal colors to create contrast and an otherworldly, glow-like effect.

Cassarus: Well done ranking them up I didn't think it was possible. Though I think I obliterated what small hope there was of them fitting close together when I swapped their swords for lances. :/

Scythe: Thanks, in my opinion the glow really adds that little bit of magic setting them apart from regular horses.

Lord Azoth: Its a really good kit that can be used for so many purposes.

    Next up, spirit hosts.

Re: Symrivven's Dark Elves and Vampire Counts

The first of several home-brew spirit hosts, yes I know everyone makes their own spirits hosts, but really Gw's hosts are well, the kindest thing to say is outdated.

When I told A friend my plans for several of the spirit hosts I was planning to make, he was kind enough to let me butcher a few of his old witch hunters, which really saved me a lot of time.

So there is a witch hunter in my vampire counts army, first some background:

    Hans von Landgraf

Occasionally servants of Nylian manor dispense pamphlets throughout the empire’s mayor cities, advertising its virtue as one of the world’s leading colleges of necromancy, its (literally) cutting edge research and often notifying a wish to recruit new enthusiastic (and slightly mad) students. This has a twofold purpose. For one they do hope to attract new students, or if those that show up aren’t bright enough, servants. And two,
to gaining new test subjects and body parts. More than once a heroic witch hunter or adventurer takes the bait and marches a small army into the worlds edge mountains in the hope of eradicating this cursed place.

One of these bands of so called hero’s was witch hunter Hans von Landgraf and his marry band of religious, psychotic killers. He was a man of righteous fury with an impressive record of killing innocent women witches, people he didn’t like heretics and the elderly undead. So when he felt he was getting old he’d decided to go out with a bang, by destroying this college of necromancy he occasionally heard whispers about.
During this not so epic quest he unfortunately found a rather quite death, for the spell that eventually tore his soul from his body was remarkably silent. In his defence his followers may not have been the most competent bunch, though they sure made up for that in dedication. For even after they where disintegrated their spirits kept following Hans. As for Hans the witch hunter, after his involuntary transformation into undeadhood he suffered from a mayor identity crisis. Luckily after many therapy sessions and after he made some minor concessions to his beliefs we can report he’s doing well. With the same zeal he ones persecuted the undead he is now happily hunting the living.

Great looking spirit hosts!! Love the Witchhunter theme, they died fighting the Undead and now they've become the very thing they hated so much..
