I have played a couple of games with Colette's avatar. She is not powerful as such, just a lot of fun

Basically, the Avatars were not designed as "win buttons" or even as desirable options in all circumstances. In some cases your regular Master will do better in the Strategy than their Avatar form will, so part of figuring out Avatars is figuring out when not to use them.

    Re: Malifaux

I don't know anyone that uses the avatars, but then none of the ones people would use have been released yet. I will buy a few and paint them up, but would likely never use them in games. Sonnia's the the most tempting for me, but I'd rather spent those 2SS on a Desperate Merc.

Yup, I read some where on the Wyrd forums that they are not meant to be auto win buttons. They even went so far as to say that if compared stand alone, they aren't even made to be equals. Some are more powerful then others. Something about the entire crew will balance out some issues.

Anyway they go in terms of game design, at the moment, I still find the game a lot of fun and characterful.

Anymore reviews and personal tales on your experience of the avatars?

    Thanks!

Funniest/coolest line I've read on Warseer! And a pretty good description of the plogs above.

Sounds like it may be worth buying the rulebook next payday. Incidently, where can you buy the rulebook, none of my regular miniature sites have it?

I keep hoping to get a camera at some point, but they are either uot of my budget for one I deem worth buying or something else gets in the way when I do finally get my hands on the money. I still hope though

February releases are now up on the Wyrd forums here: http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28048

Bel is looking particularly fine. I may have to pick her up, which means finally painting my other Witchling Stalkers.

    Looking good

March release have been announced (I may be a bit slow in spotting them this month, I'm not online much these days).

    http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread...March-Releases

Some nice stuff like the Dead Doxies, Alt. Viks and Avatar, etc. I know those Doxies have me excited (since I want to use them in a Molly Crew) and Sword Viks' whale tail had me chuckling. The base inserts will be perfect for the Pirate Colette crew I also have planned (1 Colette Crew just isn't enough for me).

The Alt. Viks are a huge improvement, even if they do have a whole jedwood thing going on. The swamp mother and the gupps are great too.

Anyway, I wanted a bit of advice. I have a nice alternate Zoraida figure from the tales of war range on the way and I was wondering whats good for a Zoraida crew?

I too am embarking on the Zoraisa adventure this year. Simply adding a Collodi box set and some stitched togethers seems popular. I have also seen Jack Daw appear in a lot of Zoraida lists. Other than that, if you are wanting a heavy hitter to do the grunt work you want something not immune to influence so that you can benefit from all of the obeys you can bring to the table. So, a mature nephilim over a teddy or Bad Juju.

Also, Lelu and Lilitu are always good.

Spawn mother and gupps are being released in March but can't re-call my initial impressions of them from reading twisting fates.

Me, I'm not too worried about being competitive so have been thinking of using a lot of gremlins with her, Ophelia in particular.

Improvement on what, the originals? The alt and Avatar sculpts look like TOWIE gone wrong. The fishmen are nice, though - cute.

I'm interested in this game, the models intrigue me. Can anyone give a whistlestop explanation of how it plays?
Yeah, we flew our space church across 500 light years to get to this planet taken over by the orks. Now we're going to drop from orbit in buckets and run out and shoot pistols and hit people in the head with chainsaws. Ultramarines!

    Re: Malifaux

For those wanting to know more on Zoraida, here's the wiki/tactica page for her:

    http://pullmyfinger.wikispaces.com/Zoraida

ashc, the official Malifaux site pretty much sums up the game better than I could, again here's the link:

    http://www.malifaux.com/

But in a nut shell, it's played with small groups of models on a small table (3' x 3') with lots of terrain (say twice as much as you'd see in 40k on a table of the same size) and cards instead of dice. Like things such as Warmachine, the rules for models are packaged with them and are contained to cards (thankfully the books also contain the rules for those unable to read the cards and I know some that cannot read the cards due to the small print used). Also, instead of just beating up your opponent, it is more about reaching objectives (called Schemes and Strategies) and accomplishing them awards you Victory Points, the person with the most at the end of the game is the winner (so yes, it does mean you can have a game with only 1 or 2 models dying, but it also helps to severely hurt your opponents crew (in fact some strategies rely upon it!). I hope that helps, but the site really does explain it better

EDIT: Just spotted these coming out in April:

    Alt. Lilith
    Alt. Bete Noir
    Alt. Nicodem
    Guild Brutal Effigy
    Nicodem, Avatar of Decay
    Ressers Carrion Effigy
    Jaakuna Ubume
    Tuco
