She's very easy for a beginner though, so expect your friend to do quite well initially as people get used to crews and abilities and all that noise.
LJ is extremely anti-rezzer. She shouldn't have any problems with ANY rezzer crew if played correctly... unless you flipped a crappy strategy... or bring the wrong crew for the job. But since you guys play with crews straight out of the box, it can be tricky because I always roll with 2 Austringers.

Her main weakness is her extremely low df of 5.

The trick to LJ vs Rezzers is Restore Natural Order, Last Rites and her paired pistols.... YES her paired pistols. My local lads are absolutely baffled why I shoot with LJ rather than smash things up in melee. Because of RNO and LR, that leaves her with no AP to attack... that is why she has to be played defensively until the Rezzer player has no resources to try and win the war of attrition. Let the rest of the crew kill the Rezzer's minions and activate LJ last to blow up all the corpse tokens / deal final wounds with RNO.

Also, bring a Student of Conflict for LJ. It really makes her extremely dangerous.

Of all the Rezzer masters, McD (McMourning) is the hardest master vs LJ. He is a combat / DPS nightmare and is as fast as LJ. He starts with a bigger SS cache too that makes killing him in 1 activation nearly impossible.

There is a chance there might be no book 4 this year or if so much later this year... I just feel Wyrd are over stretching themselves with their releases though... I would think that when they have finished releasing ALL the models that are in their books, book 4 will roll out.

Well I think it’s safe to assume Book 4 at Gen Con as usual. They release left over book models in Sep, Oct (see previous years).
Besides they were planning a Special Forces book late 2010 early 2011 but did up the rules manual as a priority. So that’s still somewhere. Plus all the hints on the Wyrd forums over the fall /winter re: bodies of water, new and previously unmentioned areas and such to explore in next fluff section. I don’t ever expect more masters; but new Henchman yes as well as fluff alt master changes. But that’s just what I’ve read between the lines from their forum hints, and podcast interviews.

I do wish they would fix the release schedule again as Gen Con 2011 put us back a month like last year, not big but annoying.

Personally I see book 4 having Henchman compatible minions, maybe new encounter locations and events...henchman schemes (?) and God willing Campaign rules. I know they have been working on Malifaux RPG rule which they were hoping for release 2011/2012; but with the recent job posting i think they are still a ways off. I think a new fate deck is on the way (as the others are mostly OOP) and hoping for official scheme and strat deck. Ratty's are great and the ones done up by Bellingham Warhamsters, a wargaming group in Bellingham were amazing.

    Indeed.

Wyrd has a chance to expand their catalog to include more product to support their system instead of just releasing new models.

Gaming aids are always welcomed by the community especially affordable ones.

I feel that at this moment, they have a pretty solid rule set and range of models... they should really work on supporting those with gaming aids and terrain.

Yes, terrain... having a gazillion rules for encounter locations is nice... but having to spend weeks or months working on said locations to play on is a serious meh.

Putty, Lady J hasa poor Df of 5? That's still better than most masters, I think only Perdita beats that with her immense DF 8. Most seem to be around the Df 3 area.

As for terrain, I normally game at a friends house and he sets up the terrain before myself and the others arrive, though there's nothing to stop us moving it all about. I'm about to start work on a graveyard/cemetery for Malifaux (made from GWs Garden of Morr, Renedra graystones, fences and various creepy trees) to expand our terrain options, then start on a Quarantine Zone terrain set before buying lots of things from Sarissa for a Mining Town. It takes ages to get done (and sometimes lots of money), but it's always worth it when you have a great looking table

I have to agree with LonelyPath, other then Perdita and Lilith who boast insane df 8, somer teeth and the viks at 6, LJ df 5 is above average. the rest match her df or languish at 4, 3 and even 2.

For me, the biggest stumbling block to great terrian is not the time or the cost involved to make, but the fact that there is limited space to store it. The "pigeon holes" as my grand dad called the public high rise housing over here is just to small to be able to keep much terrain.

I to just got my hands on the Gardens of Morr and ordered some grave/tomb stones from Rendera for a grave yard board!

Now I have to agree with putty here that this is a fine idea, and one that Wyrd really ought to consider.

If they were to come up with terrain that matches the tables in the rules book, allowing us actually finally be able to flip for an entire game, I'd but those terrain bits and find away to store it. Even in the "pigeon holes" that I live in.

    Cheers.

    Re: Malifaux

I'd forgotten Lilith also has a high Df score, Colette is another with a Df 5 of 5, but all of the Showgirls tend to have good Df, but they really need it.

I'm the same with lack of space for a lot of terrain, so when I make or buy it, I prefer it to be collapsible in some way. Sarissa is great as it will break down again into it's base components (great news for my mining town), Terraclips is also fantastic for this. My Graveyard will be sheets of MDF with gravestones glued on, then based (sand, paint, tufts of static grass) and those will be very easy to store, the small mausoleums/creepy structures should also prove easy, the forests will take up the most space unless I buy ready made trees and just place them on suitable shaped/sized decorated areas. All of that should be able to fit in to a box that a Land Raider comes in and have some room to spare. My Mining Town should fit in to a even smaller box if things go to plan.

The Quarantine Zone will add more difficultly in making it easy to store since it will involve many buildings and even if I made those so that they were stackable it's probably more space than I have available for it right now, so that's a while off whilst I work out how I can store it at my own house.

    http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread...5-May-Releases

May releases are out for Malifaux! Some great looking models and some rubbish ones as well. Why did they not keep an original McMorning around for reference when they did the alt McMorning? They do not look like the same guy at all.

That's the pale rider and aLeveticus for me.

Time to try out that rider list I've been dreaming of since I found out that only Leveticus could hire all 4 riders. Forseeing many loses ahead all in the name of cool.

    Cheers!

    Re: Malifaux

Thanks for the link to the May releases, I'm a bit slow at the moment in posting them myself, lol.

As for Levi and the 4 horsemen, others have been doing it so go for it

    So for the models though...

Pale Rider - might look better with a better paint scheme, that one looks to cartoony.
Simulacrum 29 - great model, such a shame I have no interest in playing the crew though
Alt. McMourning - psycho Doc Brown (Back to the Future) with a very pronounced brow, not impressed. Nice pose for the model, jus ta shame about the head.
Union Miners - great stuff, I've been waiting for these!
Iggy - another great model and one I've been waiting for, between this and the miners I'm now ready to collect a Kaeris crew
Levi Avatar - another great sculpt and a nice paint job to show it off, impressed, but yet another I have no interest in playing.
Effigies - all horrible, I'm not impressed by any of the 5 Effigies and wish they'd never bothered with them, or had at least done something far better in the design process.

Besides eying up the models I like there, I have been busy painting the remainder of my Malifaux crews and got Molly, Pandora and Lady J all finished off, plus painted 2 Desperate Mercs and a 2nd copy of the original Rasputina model over the last 2 weeks. I've been busy, busy, busy ad Death might say (see Discworld if you're not familiar with Death saying that).

They have released terrain and mighty fine stuff it is too. Three sets so far with more to come. If you can't wait or modular terrain isn't your cup of beans then there are plenty of other options out there. Sarissa Precision do a range of heroic scale Old West buildings with Malifaux in mind, including a train station.

    Re: Malifaux

Pale Rider - Meh. Its alright, but theres better alternatives available.

Simulacrum - Bit too static for me. Thats the problem a lot of the bigger Malifaux pieces suffer from though.

ALT. McMourning - He's better, but the head seems a little large for the body. Probably just the picture though.

Union miners - Love 'em. I'll be having at least one set if not two, if only as use as NPCs.

Iggy - Looks like a bigger version of one of the fire Gamin. Meh.

Leviticus - Far too over thought. Also the horse looks rather small... almost my little pony ish with the pose.

Effigy's - There all okay. The mysterious effigy is the only one that I'd hand over money for. Again, theres better alts available.

Bit of a slow month, although in all honesty the quality of Malifaux releases seems to be sliding a little bit. Theres only been a model or two each months thats grabbed me for the past few months - although, those are still sales so maybe there just catering to everyones tastes

I've also finished my alt Zoraida figure and an alt corphelius which are in my plog (see sig - plug plug!)

The Sarissa stuff is excellent and great value for money, plus you don't need to glue it so if you are short on space you cane simply take it apart again for easier storage between games (just put each kit in separate zip lock bags to it doesn't all get mixed up). I've picked up a couple of kits now to start off my mining town and I am not disappointed

I got to play on a full board of it at a tourney last year and it was ace. Looked great and was completely interactive with the models.

    Re: Malifaux

    Hi all.

I just played my first game of Malifaux yesterday. As it was the first game, we didn't use any expansions.

    A 30 Soulstone Scrap:
    Guild v. Neverborn

    Lady Justice...............v................Zorida, The Hag
    Judge..........................................Bad Juju - Mire Golem
    3 Death Marshals.........................3 Sliurids
    Executioner.................................2 Sorrows
    Scales of Justice..........................Primordial Magic
    6 Extra Soulstones

    Treasure Hunt.............................Assassinate

In retrospect, my opponent really should have left himself with some soulstones. But it didn't matter anyway. Since Lady Justice has the highest speed of any character on the team, I rushed her and the Judge into the center of the table to pick up the treasure. Everyone else on the team followed. I figured they could mount a counter-attack while the Lady got back into my deployment zone. The sliurids all charged her, and Riposte killed 2 of them. They dealt 7 damage to Lady Justice, and the Mire Golem appeared behind my force. It killed the judge, distracted all my death marshals, and The executioner charged Lady justice because of "obey." Then I decided to change my plans because Lady Justice was wounded pretty badly. The Mire Golem finished up with Lady Justice, and I forefeit because it was 12:30 am and I needed to get back home.

Awesome game. I enjoyed it from set-up to the time that I gave up.

Glad you enjoyed your first game and hope you have many more to come.

The core rules are easy enough but getting to know everything your own crew - let alone your opponents crew - can do is where the challenge lies.

Sounds like a good game though and a decent pairing with quite different playstyles.

    Re: Malifaux

I was just a a local game store. They don't sell many miniatures, but they can order things in if you ask them to.

I asked about Malifaux stuff today, and he told me that he can only order 4 different models, and the two expansion rulebooks. He also said that chances of him carrying any malifaux in the future were slim to none.

It seems that despite being awesome, Malifaux doesn't really have a strong following in Salt Lake City. Are there any players in Utah?

Welcome to the game and glad to hear you enjoyed your first outing. Just beware of Showgirls boasting Coryphee that have any mission where speed is a bonus (things like Treasure Hunt, Power Ritual, etc) as those pesky constructs can move from one deployment to the other in a single turn plus they are all but impossible to pin down in melee thanks to their bonuses into disengage!

Naturally I play Showgirls, but they were my first crew (I got them because of the models, lol). I also have Lady J, but yet to try her out since I have so many other crews to try.

Look for the Pull My Finger Malifaux Wiki, it will give you plenty of tips and advice for running Lady J

Finally caved in and bought two starter sets... Ophelia & Rasputina. Also bought the rules manual, which seems like the most up to date version of the rules?

Hopefully I can convince my fellow clubmates to join in on the game after forcing them to play with me

Another GW price rise has removed my mind completely from buying any new army from them forever and that freed up all those funds I saved for 6th edition 40k to invest in Malifaux instead. GW is doing the industry a great favor, in 3 years time my gaming club has gone from only boardgames + warhammer to boardgames + Warhammer + Warmahordes + Uncharted Seas + Infinity + Flames of War and now + Malifaux

    Re: Malifaux

So I switched to Malifaux last night (thank god for mastercard) and ended up buying the Neverborn Dreamer and Mr Chompybits starter set and Teddy. I bought them mainly because I love the look of teddy and the dreamer model is one my friend has and its kind of got that whole Akira vibe thing going on I quite like.

My aim is to have a decent size crew I can use against my friend which could (if possible) be customised a bit.

So my question to you all is this. I know nothing about the rules (I'll buy the rulebook at somepoint, my friend will teach me up until then), what else can I add into the crew? I quite like the look of insidious madness, Alps, voodoo doll, bad juju and a few others. what can I add in to make the crew bigger or give me more options?

Welcome to the game! Voodoo Doll is a totem and can only be attached to Zoraida who is also in your faction. Most models in a particular faction can be taken by any master in that faction (some special rules do exist to break this rule) and some models have a caveat attached to them.

Dreamer is a pretty tough crew to start with (so I have heard) but I have never faced or played it so I can't comment personally.
