The plastic is supposed to be hard, so converting will be a bit harder. The look of the sprues just has to do with the manufacturer though, afaik. Overall, it's a low volume game, so you won't get plastics down to the price of regiments of minis in some wargames.

    Hey guys!
Just wondering, are all the box sets the same amount of points so they're balanced against each other for new players just starting out?

By and large they are but some aren't. The Nicodem starter isn't particularly playable out of the box for example.

Generally, they're pretty balanced. Nicodem isn't the best, but I'd actually consider it decent in learning the game (don't have models to raise, but depending too much on that tends to lead to bad habits in Malifaux so learning without is a good thing).

Here's a thread with suggested starting lists from the Wyrd forums:
    http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread...sheet-Thoughts

Usually it's the starter sets + a blister, but occasionally they're quite different. I'd also compare those suggestions to suggestions from the Malifaux wiki: http://pullmyfinger.wikispaces.com/

What crews were you thinking of? Marcus, Viktorias and McMourning are the three I see suggested taking non-starter routes most often.

I was thinking the Cult of December or Showgirls boxes for me (so Rasputina or Collette) and then my friend was interested in the Resurrectionists, so which sets are good starters for them?

    Re: Malifaux

Rasputina is very easy to learn the game with using Tina's Ice Mirror ability and getting over her Surge and Overpower triggers (the former lets you draw and discard a card, the latter allows you to cast the same spell again), but I recommend adding Snowstorm if you can afford it since that model gives Tina and her crew some much needed movement. her totem is handy, but not necessary.

Colette Du Bois is one of the hardest to start with and has a ridiculous learning curve, but if you don't mind losing for a while and have patience she can be a lot of fun to work out. Her starter box is pretty good, but where Tina is more about pounding the enemy with spells, Colette is about finesse and trickery. At the very least you should add a pack of Mechanical Doves (these are a must for any Colette player for the ability to summon them and sacrifice them to either blow things up or be used as soulstones, the latter very useful for Coryphee Duets) and later a pack of Coryphee (remember to pin or magnetise them to use in both of there solo and duet forms). Needless to say I did start with Colette and got hammered for a long long time as I got to grips with it, lol.

Both boxes work out at 21 Soulstones (points) each and are enough for a 25SS game and space to add a totem to each crew and are good value for money, but Tina;'s box is a fair bit cheaper.

There is also a Malifaux Wiki that is found here... http://pullmyfinger.wikispaces.com/ which is full of useful tips, tactics and avice for building crews and using them on the able.

It may also be of interest to people on here that the Gencon orders will continue on the Wyrd online store until Wednesday. This is for people that went to the con and were unable to pick up things like the Rail Crew box due to delays in their arrival at the warehouse.

Received my Gencon order (sans Misaki box) today and it came with a bonus tape measure and Puppet colouring book (lol). I realyl like the plastic rthey use, but not assembled the minis yet, let alone tried to paint them. I suppose the real test comes with actually working with the models.

I've assembled the Mei Feng box and the hanging tree. The hanging tree has some issues with a few bits too thin that break, but they joined back together well enough with a little plastic glue. Mei Feng box didn't have this issue, even with some slender bits. Very happy with the plastics.

    Re: Malifaux

My Mei Fang, Yamaziko, Willie and Beckoners went together very will with liquid poly (AKA plastic glue). I also tried experimenting with bits of sprue with Filla-Glu and that worked well but did not melt the glue to form a bold that hid gaps (even though it is meant to). The mix of the plastic is very interesting in that Wyrd have the Chinese company altering the mix of ABS and Poly the suit the place of a component, so thinner bits will bed more before breaking.

    Re: Malifaux

Interesting news, if you want to call it that.

At thewarstore, certain malifaux minis have been marked as discontinued.

The models in question are all things that are available in box sets, and are all unique, so you can't field more than one in your army.

It shouldn't affect most people, but if you wanted a single model, say a particular sculpt of a Master or some other unique character just to paint up (or if you have incomplete sets), it might be the difference between buying a single model now and spending $30 on a box set to salvage for bits.

    Just FYI.

    Re: Malifaux

I'm still struggling with Hoffman vs. a lot of the other, more directly powerful masters, but I had a game on friday with a borrowed metal gamin. I can't say it was a game-winner but it's armour, healing feedback and wound absorption helped Hoffman sit on an objective and weather an assault by Izamu for 3-4 turns until the end of the game. The casting buffs weren't unwelcome either. That's definitely a move in the right direction, and I think the next addition to my crew should be a little robot buddy (or construct buddy) to follow Hoffman around. (Besides his big robot buddy) So I had a look on PullMyFinger and I'm dithering over these three:

Metal Gamin: tempted to stick with the hefty armour and protection. The Guardian should provide that, although it always seems to die pretty quickly on me. Maybe I should start boxing clever with it and choose one of the other options: Mechanical Attendant or Mobile Toolkit Both with their little pros and cons, though at the mo I wouldn't mind sacrificing a bit of offensive capability for the healing buff of the toolkit.

Okay, I plan to get two or all three eventually, but which one to try out first? Any preferences?

    Re: Malifaux

Just finished putting my "the Thunder" box, Yamaziko and Oiran together. I was really impressed with the plastics, there is just so much detail and character in them. It would have been useful to have some instructions in the Thunders box though, I have 2 random left over bits and cannot for the life of me figure out where they belong

Worth noting that Malifaux 2nd edition is in playtesting right now. Public playtesting will begin on May 31st to do some final balancing. Lots of tidbits released on various sites and podcasts.

I saw that on TTGN and I was wondering if it was still worth it to get the expansion books or if I should wait for the new edition.

Wait for the new edition, unless you want the books for the backstory (which will be advancing in the new main rulebook). Haven't said anything about it, but it would make sense for them to preserve the old backstory somehow too.

I have neglected Malifaux of late, but for the playtest I will be in like Flynn.
