    Re: Malifaux

I am painting up Somer Teeth Jones and the Gremlins as well as a Pig Herder and a Giant Pig. I also have the Victorias boxed set but it's not nearly as painted. Have yet to play a game, though. Really looking forward to it in the summer when I have time.

    Re: Malifaux

Somer is a tricky master to learn, as the gremlins are pretty weak individually, and he has no soulstone cache. But when you get it right, he does well, and his crew is fun.

Just played my first game with Zoraida and her crew. Got to say was unsure what to expect before I played with regards the card system, but its great fun! Haven't laughed as much playing a game for a long time, maybe because I was playing against the gremlins but gotta say really enjoyed it and looking forward to playing again soon. The Silurids are great.

I've almost finished the first of my Malifaux models, one of the Resurrectionist dead ladies of the night, a Rotten Belle. I'll have pics up on www.tabletopgeeks.com soon.

I just picked up the book, and I cannot wait to dive in and have my first game. I think I might struggle to find an opponent but I will track one down somehow......

I am going through that all important select a crew stage, either Tina or the Viktorias are the front runners, but I am finding it very hard to resist the undead hookers

It is still light on the ground opponent wise but it is a game that seems to be generating a decent degree of interest. Other than that, try converting your usual gaming crew.

As for your crew selection, not to try and sway you from your front runners - I really like the models in both those sets - but I have played against proxied Seamus and rotten belle crew and they seem to be very very effective. Seamus seems to be one of the most powerful masters - in my eyes anyway.

Yes, I have heard that Seamus is an absolute monster, and if you add Bette Noir or the Convict Gunslinger to his crew then things get really nasty.

Having read through this thread, it seems that one crew is never enough, so I guess it is a case of which one I get first, rather than which one I get....

This is true, but at $30-$35, it's not too hard to collect the sets you want.

I haven't played the game yet myself. I've got a couple of miniatures though and they do look very nice. Looking forward to painting them up.

It won the Battle Challenge over on TGN so it seems like a good excuse to begin painting my crews.

Also a good time to finally try to learn how to use McMourning effectively. Have tended to take a beating when using him thus far.

    Re: Malifaux

McMourning is very good. I would get to know my crew's abilities first. Each one has alot of things they can do, and it's really easy to forget something that can win, or lose you the game. Then get to know the strategies and schemes, and see how your models will work in those situations. Of course, playing helps with both these things.

I finished my first Malifaux model! Well, almost... I haven't based her yet. I picked up the Seamus boxed set so I decided to paint one of the undead ladies of the night first (a Rotten Belle). I went for a very "fresh from the grave" undead look.

I was going to pick up Seamus and Perdita box sets as well as the rules, primarily because the models for both look great. What are the fighting styles of these 2 boxes? Would they display most of the game options available or are there 2 more suitable boxes to learn with?

I would suggest these are excellent boxes to start with.

I too have the Ortega's and they are the most shooty faction in the game. Perdita has a great defence as well as the ability to take a shot at her opponent when being charged.

Seamus' crew is a bit more melee oriented, I would say the tactic for use here is for the belle's to try and lure individual opposing models one at a time and then have them all pounce on it at the same time. Seamus shooting attack is nasty.

One thing about Seamus I would suggest though is get your hands on his tote, the copycat killer, as soon as possible. The combination of the two is somewhat deadly.

The peacekeeper model is due for the guild in March and looks amazing.

    Re: Malifaux

They are both strong crews, and straight forward enough to learn easily. They're very close tobeing opposites. Seamus is very hard to kill. Perdita's defense is excellent, but she's fragile.

Make sure to toss Sybelle in there, and use the combination of Lure and Companion to really put a hurting on someone! You can actually activate your entire team all at once if they are close enough to each other if you want... though that then leaves you vulnerable for the rest of a round. Good if you need to take someone out quick though.

The Ortegas can do that too.

So I'm gouing to be teaching a few new people how to play. Have any rule troubles come up for any of you that I should make sure to explain to them? Just want to make sure they fully understand the game.

Not so much on the general rules. I tend to find it is specific character rules I struggle with. In particular corpse/body part counters for McMourning, although.... I imagine I would struggle with scrap counter rules too, so perhaps the utilisation/creation of such tokens? Of course that depends on the factions being used.

    Re: Malifaux

Me my good friend and my sister picked up Malifaux. I got the Lady Justice starter, my friend got Somer teef jones starter, and my sister got the Rasputina starter. We've only played 1 game but it was good fun. I really enjoy the card mechanic, it adds some level of predictability when you need it. Plus it's novel, I've never played any wargame like it. Also the models are FANTASTIC!! There's currently no one in my area where I go to college who play it but I'm gunna try and drum up some support I think.
Armies I play: Khador (Warmachine), Cygnar (Warmachine), Trollbloods (Hordes), Lizardmen (WHFB), Orks (40k), The Guild (Malifaux).

Okay since so many people can't seem to get this: There, refers to a location, as in "hey look over there." They're is the contraction "they are" as in "they're riding bikes." Their is plural possessive, as in "That's their car." I hope that helps.
