I thought about writing them a letter, but would they REALLY listen?
Probably not. But then if their sales fall through the floor, then at least I've taken all available opportunities of explaining why, and they can't say "we don't know why our sales have dropped off"...would they REALLY listen?
Of course they may not be falling off, they may well be exploding upwards...Yeah right! LMAO!

i would like it if they "rotated" the armies for 40k and FB. SO they could do a beasts of chaos Battle report vs woodeies, then a high elf tactica and skaven master class, for example. then for 40k, maybe some new rules for one army (not always Space marines), another bat rep with different armies and possibly another article. That would give us loads of variety

There may be hope at the end of the tunnel although I can see some trouble head and the Dwarf sinking further before it picks up.

While it is nice to get a letter back so promptly it doesn't tell me anything new other than that they clearly didn't read the detail of my letter as they haven't responded to my points.27/05/06

I am sorry to hear that you feel disappointed with the quality of the magazine so why not write back in and let us know what kind of articles you would like to see? We will be more than happy to arrange for a refund for any remaining issues of White Dwarf on your subscription, if you could get back in contact with us by calling the number at the end of this letter then we can arrange the rest.
White Dwarf over the past few months has been undergoing changes both in terms of layout and its role within the hobby. White Dwarf does and will focus on new releases and a proportionate amount of page space each issue will be devoted to this - it is a miniatures magazine after all and as we do not take out billboard adverts or commercials on TV, it is our only source of advertising. What you also have to remember is that the audience of White Dwarf is not just us seasoned hobby veterans, it is also aimed at those new to the hobby - in most cases this is their first look into the hobby and allows them to see what is out there. It may seem a little up in the air at the moment but you cannot expect changes to happen overnight - it is becoming more settled now as the new format and style sinks in. '
The articles now are much more relevant with what is going on, for example a new army is released then yes we will focus on them from many different aspects -gaming with and against the new army, painting and modelling ideas and advice and so on as opposed to the older style articles you may be familiar with; how to make a conversion from numerous components, some of which no longer exist or you have to buy a complete sprue for or even the articles which teach how to bend the rules of a game system - not the most appropriate articles for many of our readers.
With the advancements in technology and increased use in alternative media such as the Internet, it has allowed us to spread White Dwarf across many different mediums - if you have access to the internet then why not sign up for the White Dwarf Online newsletter? This features new articles that there just isn't room for in White Dwarf as well as a sneaky glance at the upcoming future releases in the Sneak Peek section before everyone else!

This indicates that there is some "standard letter" prepared ready to respond to "WD-dumpers" like myself.
Does this indicate that therefore there has been a lot of "WD-dumpers" in order to make the preparation of a standard letter worthwhile?
Equally clearly, it confirms that this is a deliberate, long-term change of policy and no amount of grumping and whinging by us dissatisfied Internetters is going to change one iota of that.
Prognosis? If you like WD, fine, stick with it. If you dislike it then dump it now before you waste any more of your shekels on the crap, coz it ain't gonna get better!

Definitely no more WD for me when this subscription runs out - unless it improves a lot between now and October...
Having read 319 i am sending my own letter to the WD team. To summarise:
- I am complaining about WD
- I have bought the mag for ages
- I dont like this
- I liked this
- I dont want to pay for a sales brochure
- I like just about everything else you produce
- The staff in your shops are ace (especially my local)
- I will buy it again when it gets better.
I wonder if i get the same letter as Osbad. We shall see...
Just wanted to say thanks for posting your reply Osbad; its the icing on the cake for the proof i wanted that WD really isn't meant to be what it used to be.

Due to the decline in the quality of WD since issue 312 (coincidally the exact time of Owen starting as the editor, 311 still had the excellent articles of Barrow Undead of Kemmler and the guide to the Hell Pit) 319 is the first issue that I won't be buying, due to the reducing of pages, the lack of background articles and the forewarnings of my fellow Warseers (thank you people).
I'll vote with my wallet for all its worth (which is not very much), but at least I've taken the step. I dare WD to take a step themselves.
Osbad, if you choose to reply or phone up responding to the reply you recieved, please make sure you let them know that you personally and a lot of other people know that if it stays at this level, that the people purchasing WD will go down so dramatically that it may even end up in WD not existing, from myself.
And that reply you recieved is almost exactly the same responce I heard to someone after they phoned up GW and whined about it..... hmmmm...
The death korp of krieg showcase by bryan cook in Aus WD 319 has got to be the biggest load of self indulgent crap I've read. I feel ashamed to have my stuff in previous issues along side all these self back patters
I'd love to see the sales figures for WD in the last few months. Of course, it's a double-edged sword: lower sales and they'll justify putting even less resources and original content into the mag, and if they're as strong as ever then they'll use that as evidence that the new system works. Blergh.
I remember when the giant was released, the staffers at GW were telling me that they had some interesting articles coming up, like a Giant vs Giant showdown, and potential upgrades for Giants like with the Empire Knightly Orders, where you had to take one downgrade for every upgrade chosen. One example was that you could have a Crow sitting on the giant's shoulder to provide some warning or penalty against missile fire... never materialised though
The reason? It would've taken longer to do than the five minutes their photocles currently do. Photocles rather than articles because 'article' implies content....the staffers at GW were telling me that they had some interesting articles coming up ... potential upgrades for Giants like with the Empire Knightly Orders, where you had to take one downgrade for every upgrade chosen. One example was that you could have a Crow sitting on the giant's shoulder to provide some warning or penalty against missile fire... never materialised though
the only redeeming feature in this months WD was the stealth suit blending into its background, and even that smacked of 'buy our new stuff lolz'
