    The Lord and Lady's backlog

A new year is upon us, and with it a wish to start afresh, with new projects and clean paintbrushes. However, in our apartment the backlog of the projects from previous years has become to large to ignore, and needs serious action. Me and Lord of Skulls have therefore decided to start a p-log to show our progress in clearing up our backlog, and hopefully get some inspiration from our readers to keep us going.

    So here goes:
My name is Emily, aka Lady Hope.
I prefer the painting side of the hobby, but have also been known to play and collect 40k, Fantasy, LOTR and Bloodbowl. I also enjoy painting single miniatures from other companies for a change of scenery.

    My backlog is as follows:

    Slaanesh Daemon Army:
-Everything, including a converted Herald on foot and Herald in Chariot of Slaanesh

    Wood Elf Army
    -2 units of converted Dryads

    Rohan Force
-A number of Riders of Rohan
    -6 mounted Royal Guard
-Figures on foot to represent the above without horses

    Witchhunters/Sisters of Battle:
    -Converted Penitent Engine
    -Inquisitor
    -Priest
    -Squad of Repentias
    -2 squads of Stormtroopers

    Hasslefree Miniatures:
    -Alyx
    -Valaska Syn
    -Tiriel
    -Medieval Children

    Reaper Minis:
    -A sorceress

These are just the projects that I have begun work on to some degree. If I get through these I'll make a new list of models from my "Will paint someday" box of miniatures.

Re: The Lord and Lady's backlog

Right, I guess I better post something here as well, then

My name is Alex, and I have a tendency to get too caught up with playing the game, and forget painting...

Some of the things I ought to finish:

    Empire Army
    Two Swordsmen units with detachments.
    Two Crossbowmen units.
    Captain on pegasus.
    Great Cannon
    A unit of Pistoliers

    Easterling army
Highlights on loads of infantry and 5 Kataprakts.
    3 Characters.
    A Dragon.

    Gondor army
Paint metal and clothing on Boromir and 11 knights.

    Chaos army
    10 Chaos Warhounds.
    Warshrine.

    other
Various single figures from GW, Reaper and Hasslefree.
    Vostroyan.

I'm currently working on the Warhounds, and hope to have them finished this evening, or during the day tomorrow.

Re: The Lord and Lady's backlog

Things always take a little longer than you think, but now they are done:

While I'm not terribly fond of the figures, I did warm slightly to them while working on them. I also tried to remedy the small eyes and hairy faces with the paintjob, which I think improved them somewhat.

Now I should probably get on with finishing my Gondor army, which is what I should have been doing

I'll just need to make some movement trays for these first...

Re: The Lord and Lady's backlog

The main reason for my backlog of figures is dissatisfaction at some point in my work. This model has been nearly finished for at least a year now, but at some point I tried to paint a pattern onto her scabbard and when I didn't get it exactly right I gave up.
Now I've finally finished her. I am still not entirely satisfied with the pattern on her scabbard, but I think if I try too hard, I'll just give it up again.

The trio of pictures have a terrible white balance, but they are the best of the lot otherwise. The frontal picture shows the colours more realistically.

I give you Tiriel from Hasslefree Miniatures:

And just for kicks, here is a picture of our workspace, and a close-up of our backlog shelves (a little sneak peak at what is to come):

    Excellent job, both of you!

@Lord of Skulls: Your wolfhound thingies are very nice. Great job! I can't wait to see Boromir and his knights, as Boromir was always my favorite LotR character.

@Lady Hope: Beautiful paint job on Tiriel. It's nice to see a model that doesn't follow the "logic" of less armor=better protected that most fantasy companies seem to think about female warriors/mages etc.

@Both: Your painting is about one million times better then my own. Can't wait to see more of your fabulous work!

Magos Errant: Thank you I'm glad you like our work. Unfortunately the work on the Gondor models is quite slow going at the moment, so it might take a while. I might post up a work in progress shot sometime soon, though.

However, I've finished one of my random figures. I bought this back when they were first released, just to see how they are to paint, but never got around to finishing it.

    Hope you like it

    Well, better late then never.

The Vostrayon (Or whatever they're called.) looks very nice. You did a very nice job with the eyes. I've never been able to paint an Imperial Guardsman's eyes; they're just so tiny!

Re: The Lord and Lady's backlog

Thanks. I usually wouldn't paint the eyes of a Guardsman either, but I made an exception for this one, as it's a one-off model. Took me quite a few tries

As for the Gondor models, the part that's taking too long is doing the all the metal parts. So far I've done this on the four infantry models, and two of the cavalry models. 9 more knights, and Boromir on foot and mounted left to go. If I just keep doing a few each day I'll get there in the end

Oh, and I finished the movement trays for the hounds, so they are now ready for use:

Agree with gonfrak but it looks great. The warhounds are looking nice, the horns look very natural.

The face on the vostroyan however is excellent, looking forward to more of those.

Re: The Lord and Lady's backlog

Thanks. There are no immediate plans for more Vostroyans, though, as I have more than enough projects already

Just to get something done, I've finished the Gondorian infantry, just to get an idea of how the rest of the army will look:

I'll do the bases in one go at the end, as I'm still now sure how to do them. (I want something more interesting than just plain sand and grass...)

Re: The Lord and Lady's backlog

Thank you all for the comments about Tiriel. I chose a non-standard colour for her armour mainly because I'd never used those specific GW colours before, and quite frankly was bored of painting Mithril Silver yet again.

I have begun on another of my projects which has been lying partly done for too long, here is a shot of the parts before I started up again:

It is a converted Penitent Engine for my ever growing Witchhunter force. I don't like the current model and it being all-metal doesn't make it any better. The parts here are kit-bashed from my own large reserves of Sisters of Battle vehicle-bitz, and the Lord's Imperial Guard leftovers.

I have sprayed and begun the basecoating, and will have new shots up of even further progress tomorrow.

    Great job, both of you!

@Lady Hope: I can't wait to see the penitent engine when it's finished! That's a gorgeous blue you've got on it.

@Lord of Skulls: Interesting using purple colored cloth on the Gondorians.

Magos: I know I wanted something a little unusual.

Been a while since the last update now, but now I've finally finished the Gondorians. It's only a quite simple tabletop quality, but I still think they turned out ok.

Re: The Lord and Lady's backlog

Finally another update from me aswell.
Work on the Penitent Engine has continued, I have now finished the blue, have basecoated what is going to be black in one layer, and have started work on the white.
It is at this point I always curse myself for having chosen this colourscheme, but in the end it looks striking!

And a close-up of the leg, and with a weapon mounted on the "cockpit".
