    Warmaster!

    So I have loved Warmaster ever since it was first released ten years ago. Cleanest ruleset GW has produced, very elegent. The ten millimeter models are superb. Also a unit is $15 now not $80 like in it's larger cousin. Anyways, I digress.

    Over the years I have collected three armies in order of purchase; Dark Elves, Araby and Empire. I have pfutzed around with them all from time to time and for various reasons, wife, two kids, etc, I haven't finished any of them. Now a couple of friends of mine are planning to refight the battle of Hel Fenn in 10mm. Aha! My muse she speaks again! Empire it is and the noble if disheveled state troops of Stirland shall march forth in their grubby green and yellow!

    So enough of the prattling on let's get to the pictures which is why we read these things right?

    This here is my first strip, it's done, less the flag, I can't decide between some simple geometric shapes or maybe painting some little heraldic devices for the banners, but that'll keep till later.

    This is the general's view aka the rear.

    Here is a quick size comparison for all of you who haven't seen Warmaster in person, the handsome blue guy is a standard 28mm Alpha Legionaire, the yellow and green gents you've met already.

    This last pic lets you behind the curtain to see the magic of washes and highlighting.

    The guys on the left are basecoated with Citadel and Valejo paints. The guys on the right have gotten a devlan mud wash and then one bold highlight all around. That's it! The stand on the right took maybe 2 or 3 hours worth of work, basecoated and washed bfore I went to bed, and then highighted the next morning after I walked my son to school and before I went to work. Once you gang three of these stands together and see six rows of guys marching in column its pretty cool, not to mention three units brigaded together or the sight of the whole army striding off to war! Heck, the whole army will fit in one maybe two of the clear plastic drawers that fit in a toolcase! Good stuff.

    And so it begins kiddies! Tune in next time as we continue our epic journey to Hel Fenn and a two thousand point or so Warmaster Empire army!

    Thanks to Sean over at modelwarships.com who helped me with the photos.

    Comments and criticism are desired guys I am curious to hear what you all think!

    Could I please get a mod to spell Warmaster correctly in my darn title to this log? I can't believe for all my proofing of the body I biffed on the title. Thanks in advance guys!

    Great looking state troops. I'm also a fan of Warmaster, currently working on Empire and Vampire counts myself.

    How are you planning on basing the stands?

    @ Kormas, Ironbreaker, and Goblue24
    Thanks for the kind words guys, I have more goodies on the way, it seems like the small stuff should be harder to paint but the detail is crisp and very forgiving of a fast and loose paint style.

    @ohno!zombies!
    Thankee! Yeah GW pooched the release of Warmaster and shuttled it off to Specialist before it could really find its place in the popular consciousness. That being said they have churned out a good half a dozen armies since the initial release including Araby a completely new subject and some of the most beautiful sculpts to date, Colin Grayson is the man!

    @Davout
    I'll be putting down some fine sand in between strips and then black basecoat, graveyard earth drybrush followed by a light vallejo green ochre drybrush. Patches of static grass after that. The VC are a nice looking range, I'm waffling as to whether I'll be buying them next or BRetonians. I've seen some pretty cool Bret armies out there and think it would be fun to take a crack at all those bright colors.

    Tonight I almost finished the next five strips of guys, just need to do the metals and then base this unit up! hopefully I'll get some more pics up in a couple days. I might take a stab at an army list as well.

    @kormas
    I'll definitely be taking pictures of the big game and will try to put up some form of battlereport. If I get in some games before then I'll do the same, but the reality is I often debut an army at its first big game, sink or swim baby!

    @sigur
    Thanks, the complement means alot coming from you! Yeah, a splash of red is always a good thing on the tabetop.

    Well the guys are glued to their bases and just need a little drybrushing and static grass for my first completed regiment! Next up, I don't know, I've got more halbardiers primed as well as some crossbowmen so probably more core stuff, then some knights or pistoliers for a little fun.

    Wow man those are really great models, the paint job is awesome! Your colour scheme is really nice, it looks like you could use them for Warmaster Historical or Warmaster Fantasy. Are you going to put any kind of logo on the banner? I think it could really finish them off!

    I am looking forward to seeing more.

    @Cpt. Drill

    Thanks! I am planning on doing something with the banner, I just don't know what yet. I would like to think I'm up to 10mm heraldric beasts for the flag, but I might just go with some kind of yellow geometric shapes on the various banners. We'll have to see. Maybe I'll bust my optivisor out tonight and see what I can do...

    Re: Warmaster!

    So I have finished my first two units of my Stirland army and I submit them for your perusal kind folks!

    So here is the halbadiers, quite the pointy forrest eh?

    My second unit is a group of crossbowmen from the left...

    and the right.

    Here are the halbadiers and crossmows in a mini brigade.

    So that's the new stuff folks! The question is how do I finish the bases? The basic dirt is done at this point. The question is how to replicate the grass? Do I use static grass like I do on my 28s and 15s? Or do I use some ground foam like the grass blend from Woodland Scenics? Inquiring minds want to know!

    So wade on in with the comments and criticisms guys, I need the feedback to grow as a hobbyist, because lets face it when your wife says that looks nice honey, well, she really is asking you to get your toys out of her face so she can finish her novel in peace.

    @Azraelezekial

    Thanks, I'm doing my part trying to increase the proportion of Warmaster one post at a time here on the 'seer!

    @Ancre

    Thanks, I have some pistoliers which are in the works next, I also have my first unit of Araby spearmen who I am working on to keep things fresh, and I need some adversaries to fight right?

    Some wip stuff

    So I have been working a little bit here and there this last week on the Warmaster stuff.
    First up I have a unit of pistoliers to add to our noble heroes from the South.

    Next up we have the villains of the piece; some Araby spearmen.

    Here is the view of the Arabyans from the rear.

    Here is a base coated unit of camel riders.

    This really gives you a feel for how much the wash and highlights bring to the party.

    I have to say, the Araby range is by far my favorite of the armies I have, the character crammed into these litlle guys is ridiculous. Really makes me wish they would greenlight these guys in 28mm I'd be on them in a flash. I can't wait to paint up some of the characters. This would definitely be my main project but for the battle this fall that I'm working towards. Of course to keep things fresh I plan to throw some Araby in every unit or two. I also was week and picked up a Bretonian army last week. So we'll probably start seeing some knights of the realm sooner or later as well!

    That's all for now guys go ahead and sling me some C&C on the WIP stuff I need to know if I'm headed the right way or not!

    Re: Warmaster!

    Keep up the good work, it looks very nice. I am not that fond of the green on the arabian folks, I don't think it goes that well with the white and the yellow, but that's just a matter of personal taste I think, as otherwise they look great
