Not so secret Apocalypse Project. Reaver vs Hierophant

Each time I play an Apocalypse game I feel like I must outdo myself.

The first game I had my baneblade, the second I added a shadowsword, for the third I added Masters of the Chapter, then came a Warhound for me and a second for my girlfriend, then I added 40 terminators to that aswell.

And finding my warhounds broken in their box, one of them beyond repair, with just enough pieces to fix only a single one up, I decided it was time to start again and build up once more, and bring something new to the table, a way to raise the bar within my group of friends once more.

So I decided on my project after a little decision between four different models, I decided to go for the second most expensive, figuring I had no real need for a Thunderhawk at the moment and not wanting to stop myself raising the bar once again in the future I set about my work, deciding once more, as for all of my Apocalypse projects to keep it a secret from my friends until the day when I show up, though I always accidently let it slip after a few days.

I'll let people guess at what it is, so here is a sneak peek of the work done so far today.

Were they second hand? Forge world are usually brilliant about replacing even large portions of the model.

No the warhounds were also scratch built

EDIT: More news, my girlfriend will be playing 'Nids at the same game so in order for a bit more fun to be hand and some friendly competition she's building a Bio-Titan to oppose my own glorious creation. She, however, refuses to make a post until she has pictures, expect an update from her in the future, probably tomorrow.

    More pictures later.

Some more so far pics, after a day of Lord Calgar wiping the floor with a Tzeentch Sorceror, its back to work.

I plan to fill the insides of the larger sections with expanding foam to make sure they don't collapse in on themselves and use them as a base for some metal rods to build the legs around to make sure they don't fall apart, as my Warhound's did. Also shown are many many toes.

Plus the missus hard at work on the spine of her Xenos abomination.

Pictured in the background are various Guard vehicles in various stages of painting, the green one is ten years old and in a very wrong colour scheme.

    Re: Secret secret Apocalypse project.

Lazy day today, haven't gone out for my morning run, feeling ill, nothing for it but to spend most of the day working on my Titan, (most of you probably guessed it already) and surfing the intrawobs.

Mainly finished lower legs now, just a case of putting them together.

Learned something new today about expanding foam, it expands, the bases for the feet have domed a little, not too much of a problem, can probably work around it, may have to open them up and take some foam out. Sounds like surgery.

Will kick the woman to making a post later with pictures of her filthy bio-titan.

Thought for the day - It looks scary D=

So, apparently I'm to post pictures of this Bio Titan I'm building.

Honestly, I haven't a clue what I'm doing and am just making it up as I go along, I've never scratchbuilt anything before so be nice

Here is the Spine, made from some wire, bent into the basic shape but it dosn't stand up by itself well:

Then a body, made from essentially chicken wire, but the finer kind that's for modelling rather than chickens:

And then some wire structure for the legs:

So far looks mostly like a gangly walking shrimp, but it's taking shape. I am having to build it to its base to stop it falling down all the time though.

Funky, you appear to be using the titan plans i made. Firstly im going to have to say that you might come across some problems with them, they certainly are not very conclusive and when i made them i wasnt totally sure what i was doing. But as i am here, i offer to help as much as i possibly can. oh and good luck too.

PS: just had a look back and you appear to be joining using small joins on the edge of the faces of plasticard. From my experience i reccomend that you use some right angle plasticard for the corners and supporting rods for any other angles. This will both support the model more and increase its strength. Just a small tip but it might stop models from falling apart like those warhounds

    Re: Secret secret Apocalypse project.

I plan to use metal rods through most of it, all the way through the legs for a start. I'm also filling what bits I can with expanding foam to give them increased strength, though i'm still experimenting with how much to use. lol

Also I think i'm alergic to it, started sneezing really badly after its use, but managed to get some on to my fingers, every time I scraped some of it off I started sneezing again. D= May have to wear gloves and a mask lol. Or get Perf to do it. Though that is of course far less manly.

Ouch bad luck with the expanding foam, surely there must be another brand that you arent allergic too. nontheless good luck finding the right amount to use. Btw when it comes to the legs pipes, i suggest you use pvc plumbing style pipes. The ones i put in the templates werent really well thought out.

That was the plan , unfortunately I can't seem to find anywhere that sells any. And for some reason I can't seem to find any on eBay either.

What are you trying to find? Plumbers tubing? Or a different expanding foam?

Either way, Rapid hardware in town will have it.

Have a look on my khornate thread to see the kind I got to use on my defilers.

    Hope this helps!

I looked in Rapid Hardware, that's where I got most of my materials, unforunately it didn't have any tubing in the sizes I wanted, that's the thing i'm looking for. I found some of the right size on Wickes website on the intratubes, unfortunately the minimum quantity for order is 10.

More pictures to come later today as soon as I can be bothered to dig the camera out. Lots of stuff done, little of the model actually put together unfortunately.

May post a picture of my Guard too.

Just went to take some pictures, don't know how the functions on that camera work though so I can't seem to turn the flash off.

Will wait until the missus gets up from her nap and then make her fix her damned camera, its surprisingly complicated.

Probably do little work today, flat cleaning, pictures will come though, as soon as I find the cable to connect the camera to the computer, which requires much tidying and cleaning. D=

    Re: Secret secret Apocalypse project.

Well, I especially like the pink, fluffy tank, very original use of a stompa, incorporating it in a guard army.

EDIT: ok, I'll say something nice as well

The pose of the titan is correct so far. I'd advice you to buy either a Carnifex or a Trygon in order to get lots and lots of bits to to use for mandibles, tips of legs etc.

I also think that you might want to think about whether or not you want a carapace for this fella or not, I could imagine something slick and slimy to be equally terrifying, or go for a more beetle esque design on the carapace, reducing the need for sharp edges.

    Re: Secret secret Apocalypse project.

At present the plan is to papier mache (yes, I'm a child <.<) the model and make carapace out of funky foam (shh)
Hopefully I'll be getting lots of new tyranids for my birthday next week, so bits a plenty, but not until next week.

Here's the guy filled with some expanding foam for the holding his legs in place, he's also got stronger metal rods to keep him standing how I want him. I'd show you the guns I attempted to make for him, but they're embarrassingly awful, so I'm doing them over.
