Taking the plunge, a motivation plog (Chaos).

    Hello all.

I have lurked in here for a long time now, and finally decided to take the big step and start a small log to try to motivate me to get painting again. I'm a quite slow painter and need to be in the right mood to get going. Hopefully this might be helpful.

But as always things isn't just that easy when it comes to GW. My to most recent army-projects are/was an Slaanesh Hordes of Chaos army and an Nurgle Beasts of Chaos army.
So now I have to adapt, even though I sometimes still use the old rules sometimes, but mostly its now split into three separate armies.

I will present them here as they were intended to start with, and post their development as time goes by.

I start of with some pics of my Slaanesh stuff. The quality leaves a lot to be desired, but as for now these are what I was able to produce.

    Lets start with an armyshot.

My lord, probably one of the most unsuccessful chaos warlords to ever been "unleashed" onto the old world. I have a couple of versions of him, so that I can use him in different situations.

    The characters.
Lord, Sigvald (going to use him as a regular hero, not as the SC), Keeper of Secrets, daemon and a couple of sorcerers and a few familiars.

My old chosen warriors, don't know if they are going to make it as chosen with the current rules.

My chariot. This can be used as a sorcerer if needed, but its not that common.

My most recent addition to this army, a unit of marauder horsemen. The colours are a bit off in this pic. Pretty nice minis, that was enjoyable to paint.

And there I hit the max pics count, to be continued.

    Re: Taking the plunge.

Some of the daemons that used to be part of the army, and now hopefully will become an army of its own in the end.

And to finish up for now, a glimpse of the small unit of beasts that follow this army.

There is still a lot of work to be done on this army, as you could have seen (if the pics was a bit better ), and maybe have guessed from the army-shot.
I need to finish up the ogres, the second unit of knights, and the remaining characters. And there is another box of warriors in a shelf somewhere, that's supposed to replace my old ”hunchback” halberds. Then there's still some 10 more marauders to finish up, never got around to build all of them in the first go, so I need to make some more flails and get them on there.

The second unit of deamonettes, the mounted ones and the keeper are also in need of some attention, but these are probably last in line at the moment.

I'm also a bit undecided when it comes to the beasts, I guess I will have to wait until I have read the new book before I know if they get some work done to them or not.

I' will also try to get some pics of my Nurgle force taken during this weekend.

    *edit* Spelling...

Wow! That's one heck of a collection. You've got models from about six different armies in there. I like the glossy magenta colour, it's very striking. What are you going to work on first?

I really like the use of the lion chariot as a slannesh chariot, very fitting as it's slender etc. never thought about it before. will be good to see how this evolves

Thurizdan: Thanks. I tend to chose armies based on the actual minis rater than rules and the same goes when I pick models for my armies, if it feels right I use it.
I'm not really sure whats coming next, been focusing more on my Nurgle stuff lately and I another little project that I got from E-bay (or a swedish variant) last week, that might steal some time from these guys and gals.

    Sifal: Thanks.
I wanted something a bit different, and I find the big felines a bit Slaaneshy...can be cute and cuddly-looking like a kitten and ferocius and lethal in the same package. And I think that the chaos chariot is a bit crude for Slaanesh as well.

Not only do your minis hail from different armies, but they also vary from current till something like fifteen years old. Jättekult!

Durloth: Well thank you for pointing out that I'm old.
I still remember when the "hunchbacks" was the new hot thing in town, multi-pose...
I guess I might still have the odd old mono-pose warriors as well if I really want to find them, but some things are better left alone and forgotten.

    Re: Taking the plunge.

Well, here's part two of my chaosforce. This started as an Nurgle-worshiping beastmen army, with some daemon allies. Then I couldn't help myself and I toyed around a little with a spare warrior and ended up with a full unit.

There is a few things missing in this picture, like a full herd, some dogs, the unpainted centigors and so on, but it gives a rough estimate on what lays ahead of me.

Here's a few members of my painted herd, still unbased, and now in need of some re-basing so that they will rank up a bit better and so that the ungors can end up on 20mm bases.

But I have put more energy into the warrior parts of this force lately than into the beasts and here's a few examples of that. But I'm pretty sure that might change now...the dreaded "new army syndrome". I'm bound to fail my unruly test when I'm confronted with a box of the new bestigors (from what I've seen really nice models), ungors and gors. Not so sure about the minos, and totally sure about pumba, that one's not gonna happen!

My Nurgle warriors, not much to more to say than that.

And since I really liked the marauder horsemen-kit, I couldn't help getting another one and swap a few things around and end up with a unit of these, only this one painted at the moment.

My latest objects, more or less straight off my paint-area. Only 17 more to go.

So I used to have two armies, and all of a sudden I have three. The warrior-army is starting to become pretty big by now, and just keeps on growing, and the beast-army is probably going to grow as I explained earlier. I'm not so sure yet about my daemons, but who knows what the future brings.

But I'm a bit worried that this chap and his fellows might steal the attention from my followers of sin and filth.

Ohhhhhhhh lord, what Chaos Dwarf models do you posess? Any of the really ancient ones like the Tenderiser/Whirlwind?

What is the metal unit behind the Beast Herd there, I can't quite make it out?

    Re: Taking the plunge.

Thurizdan: I have 50-60 chaosdwarf minis, all from the big hat era.

The metal unit in the back is some plaugebearers, from last edition.

How did you paint your nurgle warriors? I'v been experimenting with different shades of green and highlighting or blending and using pastel colours but cannot seem to get the effect I want and yours looks just about bang on right

    Re: Taking the plunge.

Candril: I used a variety of different greens, such as camogreen, knarloc green, orchide shade and even rotting flesh as the base colour and just highlight the edges.

I then covered the armour parts with some Nitro Flesh ink. I haven't tried but I suspect that ogryn flesh och gryphonne sepia is the closest thing from GW's paint range.

Really like the look of both these armies, very well painted to. If you keep this standard for the whole armies it's gonna look great. I especially love... well, all of it actually

    Elfboy: Thank you very much.

It's time to follow the custom here and show you some pictures of my paintingarea and pets.

My painting area, normally a bit more disorganised and cluttered than this really, but it wasn't too long since I had a fit and cleaned it up.

Some of my pets. I used to work in a petshop so I have a small zoo at home (at least that's what most people thinks anyway).
There's my dog, Donna the "pitweiler", some snakes and I also have a few aquariums.

And to sum this post up, just to show that I haven't just been slacking all week, some more marauders for my Nurgle unit. There's still shields to be done as well as the bases, but I base the whole unit at once, when (if) the unit gets finished.

    Re: Taking the plunge.

Time for a small update to keep this thing alive.

Haven´t been able to paint much these last two weeks, real life has been a b...well a prostitute to be a bit more polite. A lot of overtime at work and a sick dog has stolen my time and energy.

Last weekend was a small ray of sunshine though, got to play a little, 3 games all in all, the first games in over 6 months.
I tried out my chaos dwarfs for the first time, and I must say that they will take some time and tuning to get used to.

In this pic can you see a part of one of the 1500 points armies I tried out. The nurgle marauders was used as rabble.

In on of the games I faced a few of my own units, as I lended a friend my WoC's.

But I have managed a little bit of painting as well. Finally got around to order some heads for my Slaanesh knights and had to try at least one out as soon as possible.

I also made a bit of time to start working on an test piece for my CD's. Still a few touch-ups to be done, eyes to be painted etc but it gives an idea of how they might end up. Lots of red...like in the good ol' days.

Great looking knight, looks like it will make a great unit.
