I wouldnt shade it with black, try a scorched brown or dark blue/purple. Black is just too dark and Is going to ruin the brilliance of the model. It works on greys and muted colors, but on reds and blues and greens it just looks al boo boo.
Maybe a brown or flesh wash over all that blood? Its so intensely red that it draws the eye from the model. A brown wash (thin) over your metallic armor plates would help too.
