My Genestealer Cult Terrain (Danger! pics heavy)

    Hi!
I'm a big fan of the Genestealer Cult. I've started on second edition with Tyranids and later I've collected and Imperial Guard. It's a shame that I sold my armies long time ago.
Now, with the 5th edition I'm Back and my Genestealer Cult (Imperial Guard with a lot of green stuff and genestealer boxes ) needs a good place to fight.

Few months ago I bought 3 tables and made my first board. Functional, but a little bit boring!

Seeing my little bit boring table I thought the board needs one or two buildings that can block the "line of vision".

How can I introduce buildings with a little originality?

That's It! I will make damaged buildings! ( oh ****. The TV eated my brain? I'm a zombie? That's all of my imagination? )

C'mon. Try another time, Lostzilla! You can do better than that.

Oh, wait. I have and idea. I will make 4 bases. One base for an autocannons turret (from Aegis defense line). We will think autocannons destroyed something (like a land speeder) and it crashed with two buildings. The other base is for a big lockgate

Bu,but it continues with a boring grey color. Every fuc***ng table are grey! No! No more cities of death! Be different, Lostzilla! Think!

Ok. Let's try something... brown! (, definitely I'm a zombie). Ok, I turned the table on the other side, go to the beach, stole 2 kilos of sand, go to a park, stole little stones (search for a place with no dogs pissing, please), buy 2 kilos of glue, 5 cheap paintings and...

But. There is no personality. Another time, so much boring.
Ok, ok. I will fix that.

    TACHAN!

An ork skull! I'm a genius, right? (Ok. I promise to stop watching Heroes and Smallville). And I will add more sand and stones.

Ok. The new color seems better. Painted models look good with that terrain.

Let's take a look with bases, buildings, simple hills and other stuff

Very well my friend. Stop watching Smallville was a good start.

Now, it's paint time! (prepare your tears)

First thing to do: buildings and bases (the floor aren't glued yet).

These are at very first stage of painting an modeling. One think I forgot to say it's my priority: board, buildings and other stuff will be modular and not glued to table. My girlfriend will kill me if I can not put away all the stuff and we haven't a palace :P

    Thanks!

Now, I will try a rust effect. First I must say I've never painted anything. I played on second edition but never got a brush. To paint a board it's my way to learn to paint without ruin expensive models.

    And now, the rust!

My phone camera isn't great (HTC Magic) and change the colors (adds red color).

Very cool work, the rusting is ace. I've got a crashed Aguila Lander that I can't decide should go in the middle of:

a.) A modular city of death I've planned but don't have the time to build; or
b.) A themed terrain piece based off of Modern Warfare 2's 'Afghan'

But seeing your work on those buildings brings a to mind. Having the defense battery there is great, it gives the whole board a story to tell. Forgeworld has a crashed Valkyrie that is absolutely top notch; however it's about twice the price of a landspeeder and you wouldn't get to wreck it yourself. Might be worth a look, though.

I've made the base for that:

    And increased the rust effect:

I need to fix that little hit

Now, my Imperial gu.. ops, I say, my genestealer cult needs bases for the models. Troops, heavy weapons teams, sentinels...

    And the first objective marker:

OK, now, we need the background of our genestealer cult and our planet.
! What's up with a mining planet? The miners founded remains of an ancient Tyranid infestation and wake up two or three genestealers.

    Now, we need miners:

And now, the archeological remains painted (but not finished)

I have to add boxes, spotlights, a shovel... and paint the sacks.

Looking good man! What are the guardsman helmets? They look like something from Nausicaa (Hayao Miyazake). I miss the GS cult army list!! Glad to see you doing this; where's the LIMO??????

The archeological remains are an especially nice touch, and add so much story flavor to this project. I also like the pipe section that lays close to the ground. Nice rust too!! Keep it up. If possible I'd prefer to see the edges of the remains piece rounded.

Woah looking good, Great to see a CoD that isn't just plain.
I think the city ruins could do with some more Nid bits... maybe
some dead nids from a earlier fight or something...
or perhaps a nest in a dark corner ..?
