Thread: Clan Skrit

    Post Clan Skrit

    Hi,

Well I've had my eye on a Skaven army for some time now and I finally got myself started the other day with my first purchases.

I thought I would have a go at keeping a project log for this army as it builds up - as everyone else seems to be doing it so why not!

So without further ado, here is the army so far...

Some converted PCB models as I don't like the current metal ones at all (and I had spare plague monks anyway)

Converted weapons teams (rattling guns and warpfire throwers)

    Re: Clan Skrit

I wanted to try experimenting with different colour schemes before diving into painting my first unit of clanrats. These were the prototype models.

Of the 4 I prefer the dark green scheme. So I figure I will go with that one, and then use teal/turquoise for the warpstone to make it stand out from the green cloth.

    Re: Clan Skrit

Here are the parts needed for the weapon teams. The process should be fairly obvious as they aren't complex conversions.

    Ratling Gun:
    - 2 clanrats
    - Ammo Carrier: Ammunition Casing. Have a good look around for these, there are plenty to chose from
    - Weapon Body: Rat Ogre "Blunderbuss" Arm
    - Weapon Nozzle: Terminator Assault cannon (I went for the Dark Angel Deathwing one, but any will work)

    Warpfire Thrower:
    - 2 clanrats
    - Ammo Carrier: Corpse Cart Lantern
    - Weapon Body: Ork Nobz Choppa. This makes up the back end of the weapon if you just take the "box" bit with the pipes and wires
    - Weapon Nozzle: Ork Battlewagon Stokkbomb Pack. Use this as the nozzle for the flamethrower. You just need 1 of these to make 2 weapon teams.
    - Weapon Nozzle: Flagellant Torch

My plan is to finish these off by sculpting some pipes/wires between the ammo/fuel containers and the weapons. And then to add straps going over the front rats shoulders to hold up the weapons.

I also have plans for converting the other weapon teams, but haven't bought all the parts yet.

    Re: Clan Skrit

Couple of new pictures...I had 2 more spare models which I had planned as backup test pieces in case I didn't like the original 4 colour schemes I tried out. Instead I just painted up 2 more in the dark green scheme to see them all sat side by side.

Currently working on the 1st unit of 30 Clanrats...watch this space.

Well it's been a while since I last updated this. Sadly I've been busy with decorating the house and trying to make a gaming board. But I haven't been neglecting the new Skaven completely.

Here are a couple of WIP shot of my first unit of clanrats. They just need to be highlighted and then finished off (eyes/teeth etc) and based to match the movement tray.

i have to say your weapon team conversions are ace, really like how they work and they dont look much further positioned from the originals what are on sale now. so i have to say 2 thumbs up to them.
it over all looks like a grand evil army...

Good job on your first clanrat unit... and I have to repeat what everyone else has said here, your weapons team conversions look amazing, the weapon designs are really cool and the posing looks really natural. Kudos

    Re: Clan Skrit

one thing i have to ask though looking at those lists of bitz...
is it cheaper to make them yourself with all the time spent making them? i mean dont get me wrong i love a good conversion challenge, but they just seem to have alot of fiddlee bitz...
    still love em though...
    cheers and loverly cragum

    Re: Clan Skrit

Each weapon team took about 20 mins to chop up the pieces, do a trial run (with blue-tac) and then glue together.

There is still more work to do on them such as green stuff, painting etc. But overall I'd definitely say it was worth it.

Roughly adding up the bitz now it comes to around £8 (assuming you have clanrats and rat ogre arms spare from buying the rest of your army - which I did). So thats 4 weapon teams for the same price that GW currently charge for 1 - which also happens to be old and doesn't match the current Skaven model range.

look forward to seeing your next batch of stuff.

    Re: Clan Skrit

Weapons team conversions = full of win. Your clanrat regiment is really well painted as well. Looking forward to seeing your Nurglitch painted! Are you going to convert him at all?

I found Nurglitch's weapons to small so I did the follow swaps to make him more imposing
    - Wand replaced by claw-holding-orb from plague monk plastic (staff extended too; looks more to scale)
    - Sword replaced by cathayan longsword from ogre bulls plastics (anything larger would work really) -- sufficiently hole-ridden and battle-worn too
In victory, thy glory on earth
In death, thy glory in heaven
    Arise, therefore, Warrior!
With thy Soul ready to fight!
