    Traitors and misguided fools...

So since 2nd edition I have been working off and on with an Alpha Legion force. I began with a scaly pattern that was doable on 30-40 models in 2nd Ed. Revised points costs in 3rd and on made that scheme unfeasable so I adopted a blue, green, and purple scheme that I am happy with currently. The first iteration of this army was completed for the Baltimore GT back in '02. I rehabbed these guys for the Adepticon team tourney in '09. So there is the real world story behind these guys, lets see some pics now!

Here is our first squad of legionaires, let's call them squad chaos star around a ring.

Here's a closer shot of their customized ride, spiky bits and chaos stars all around! All the insignia and iconagraphy on my vehicles is freehand, the stuff on the csms is overpainted decals.

Here is our next group of psycopaths, this is the generic chaos star squad.

A close up of the ancient rhino that totes the squad around.

All right that's post one more pics to come so I don't blow the image limit here!

All chaos strike forces need some unstoppable killers who have fought the good fight for ten thousand years. My squad of ultimate bad@$$&$ is in the form of a three man terminator squad. Perfect for deep striking to ruin any foes day!

Look right for the people boys!

Here's my typical view of my models aka the rear.

Here is a close up of one of my nameless hord after all our name is legion for we are many!

These new plastic terminators are a joy to build and paint. I had a unit of the original Jes Goodwin metals which were the first legionaires I painted and I loved them. I held off on buying these a while but was thrilled with them when I did get them and brought them home.

    The vindicator and predator.

So here is the heavy metal in my 1k list, first up the vindicator.

    Here's and ariel shot.

    This here's my predator.

    Another view of the same.

Here is all the vehicles in the strike force on the move.

I painted the vehicles for this force about 7 years after my original squads of csms. I think they all blend together nicely. There is definitely an advantage to developing a simple formula to paint your armies with, that's for sure!

    Objectives

EVeryone is fighting for something this is what my legionaires fight for time after time.

The fallen colors of the strike force...

    ...and a baby Hydra.

Objectives are fun diversions when you are chugging along painting your 25th metal csm. I enjoyed both of these quite a bit.

    The big bopper...

Here he is the man the myth the legend my Alpha Legion daemon prince!

He is a conversion with your typical plastic dragon wings and csm daemon prince.

I also cut up the limited edition games day dark elf hydra to make this guy a reality. It hurt alot to cut that model up but it makes a fairly unique leader for my force. Sure he's to much for a 1k game, but I was bringing half a 2k force to the tourney and I really like to show this conversion off!

    Now for a group shot...

Here is all 1k points together, smile for the camera boys!

So that's the basics of the force, there is more but it needs rehabbed to blend with this version of the force. Ok, really they just have different eye lenses, I changed from orange to green when I began working on them again, so maybe you'll get to see the older way of soing things as well. there was a squad of cultists that went with this list originally but they got dropped from the codex so they went back to being the ashwaste gangers like they started.

Currently I am working on a traitor guard list that will be supplemented by these guys in the big apocalypse games. Hopefully I'll have some pics of them to show you soon.

So what do you think? Comments and criticism is always welcome!

Very nice. The bold highlights make the army stand out wonderfully.

    Re: Traitors and misguided fools...

    Post 300 woohoo!

@Hushrong; Thanks, they have been a fun force to work on.

@D3V!L; The daemon prince is my favorite model by far. He was a lot of work, but worth it for a leader. I think I have to go i and punch up the highlights on the scales and add some shoulder pads, but we'll see, I'm pretty happy with how he looks in person.

@Emilio101; Thanks, this is definitely an old school paint job army and in your face highlights and zany things like purple gun casings were all the rage ten years ago. It loses a little in photos but is very visible on the tabletop which is what it should be in the end!

On the side I love how international Warseer is in my first three replies there were a Texan, a German and an Australian, fun stuff!

@Primaerch16 & Skylord; Thanks, the daemon prince was interesting, I enjoyed him a lot, but he did take a couple of years off taunting me in the basement just basecaoated before the last tourney brought him back into the painting queu.

@Tonberry; Thanks, I like to hop into the wayback machine for my CSM and Marine armies, the old in your face style suits them in my opinion. I go with a much more naturalistic pallatte for my other armies.

That Daemon Prince gave me a bit of a chuckle - It's about time someone seized on the Alpha Legions icon for a daemon prince! Great looking force...

Any plans on adding some cultists for the Alpha Legion to use as puppets?

    Re: Traitors and misguided fools...

@Sinner74; I dop haev quite a few ashwaste ghangers I used to use with this force under the previous codex. tehy are shelved for now, but I have considered bring them out using the daemon rules. I also have a renegade guard list I am working on which will ally with the Legionaires in Apocalypse games.

@3vilx; Thankee, sir! It's fun to paint in the old style once in a while. Next up for these guys will be the three obliterators which are sitting basecoated in my miniatures case.

    Some more HQs...

I can hear the voices in the warp, Jay are you still out there? Is there more to this force and is there anyone to lead your misbegotten traiters other than your DP? Well sure there are friends, I shall reveal two little bosses in the pantheon of leaders that take the field now and then.

First up is the original man who was meant to lead this force. He is armed with the Claws of the Hydra and is based on Jes Goodwin's now archaic CSM lord.

When I painted this guy up back in '02 the Tau were a brand new army and thus needed a bit of a snub. This is how I did it.

Flayed bluey! The tau skin banner started life as the back banner of the 6th edition beastman lord. I like it as a trophy for my lunatic leader. He has served me well over the years and even has a hydra pelt on his back, perhaps he skins things with the claws to show his prowess with them?

This shows you how small the old Chaos termies were, my lord wears a termie shoulder pad, not something that could be done with the new plastics!

    Next post, another leader...

    The Sorcerer...

My next Hq is a rare thing in my army a named character! He is Sorcerer Lord Sator, a legacy from an earlier time. Once again the basis for the fig was Goodwins CSM lord. I sculpted the robes cause ya can't be a sorcerer without robes, I also sculpted some scroll cases cause after ten thousand years of the long fight ya just can't remember your spells like ya did at one time.

Ahriman donated his helmet to Sator as well as his staff.

A CSM termie lent him the power mace.

I tend to field Sator as my force commander not because he is particularly more effective than my basic lord but I just have a soft spot in my shriveled, blackened heart for the sorcery that sent us down the left hand path once upon a time.

    A misguided fool...

So here is the prototype for my renegade army...

He is the typical mix of cadian pieces and the epic resin torso from Forgeworld. I removed all imperial iconagragphy from his gear thus smooth lasgun.

Here is his rebreather aparatus the rusty look is about done I think, but who knows maybe I'll jaz it up when I finish him up.

This guy has been fun to paint so far, but he is stalled temporarily I'll come back to him and his buddies sooner or later.

So there you go I have some wip renegade ogryn that I might have in a postable place next week, we'll see how things go this weekend, my youngest son has brochialitus and pnuemonia so painting time might be thin.
Anyways C&C is always welcome and encouraged guys so what do you think?
