Love the contrast of the renegades to the marines it'll be a really nice force.

What technique did you use to create scales on your HQ's cloaks, is it moulded or simply painted?

Good job all round thinking of getting into some renigades myself so great to see them sone well

I sculpted the scales out of green stuff on the cloak, trying to replicate the style on the daemon prince. The renegades are a blast to work with, I got the new heavy stubber set from my boys for Christmas and they are in the queue at this point. I recomend picking up a set of these guys just for the fun factor!

I just had a look through your look and felt the strong urge to compliment you for this army. I like armies with a consistent theme and your use of the dragon-headed backpacks and especially the DP fit the theme of the alpha legion perfectly. Keep it up!

@Dezmond: Thanks I apreciate it! I wish you could still order the dragon backpacks seperately, I am down to about 15 or 20 and am having to seriously consider who will get them next! I have some warmaster hydras that I am going to use as spawn to continue the hydra theme.

    Re: Traitors and misguided fools...

So here is the third of my Goodwin Chaos lords. This is the resculpt from v3.5 of the codex. He was one of the only models of that era I actually finished, though I have a unit of obliterators, havocs and raptors which are basecoated, maybe someday...

    Anyways here is numero three!

AS you can see he is holding an imperial fist helmet. This is a small in joke as my sm army is imperial fists. Also in v3 of the codex Jervis had a line of fluff about Alphas and fists disliking each other preheresy and them actually going at it before Horus turned traitor. The Iron Warriors fill in for the Alphas in fluff now as the fist's old foes, but I'm keeping things as they are for now, and always.

So heres his snazzy green cape from behind, and his cool bosspole. I plan on giving all my champions poles with helmets and skulls on them eventually but that is a long term project.

    Pimp my ride!

So sometimes av11 just won't cut it for the big man. So you bustout your ten milenia old ride and go knock some heads old skool. Twin twin linked godhammer lascannons, defiled of course, twin linked heavy bolters, storm bolter, and lots of spikes and custom iron banding, I give you the landraider!

The hydra pelt on the side was my first sculpt with green stuff a little primitive now but not bad at the time!

Here is the rear note the defiled mechanicus logo, or maybe its the dark mechanicus symbol!

Here is a different view of the front assault ramp, and a view of my freehand chaos star, fun stuff!

Here is the top of the tank, including the crew who were converted from the original loyalist crew.

Here's the right rear quarter. spikes and guns!

    Cultists arrive!

So back when the Alphas could take cultists I painted up a twenty man unit of ashwaste gangers to fill the bill. These were by far my favorite necromunda gang and the rebreathers and tattered clothes give them a nicely sinister look. Heres a group shot of some of the guys then we'll do some individuals.

So here is the leader of my band of misguided fools he has a two bladed knife and carries a sacred totem. He's a unit champ in 40k and the leader of my gang, the Sons of the Hydra when I'm getting my head handed to me in Necromunda.

Next up we have a heavy stubber dude. In various versions of the chaos lists these were available to foot troops. In the classic lost and the damned list you could have a regular heavy weapon and one of these in a fifteen man squad, boy I miss those days...

Next up just a couple of cultists/ gangers.

So that's it for now guys, your c&c is always welcome and sometimes I might even act on it!

I really like how you used the dragon headed backpacks for all the marines so far. They fit the theme and iconography of the Alpha Legion perfectly.

Very original idea with the Demon Prince, also very thematic and well executed.

    Keep up the good work!

@Ganymene; Thanks! My co-worker wants me to finish off my obliterators next, so maybe that's where we will be headed next.

    Raptors!

Sometimes walking across the board just doesn't get you there fast enough to cave in the other side's heads, that's when you call in the flying circus, I present to you my raptor pack!

    As with most of my army, these guys are firmly rooted in 3rd edition. It was quite the boon when the chaotics were granted jumppacks, and the special rules, well raptors were a lot better when they first came out. However I still like these guys as a hard hitting deep striking get there quickly force, let's look at some individuals;

Here is the unit champ, your standard power weapon, bolt pistol, bulldog headed, big iron face on his breastplate type.

Next up is a raptor w/ cc weapon and plasma pistol, an increasingly expensive combination, but he adds a punch to the unit.

Here is the tank buster, a melta gun for those tough nuts to crack, or maybe zapping an independent character who forgot to bring his retinue along.

Here is a standard bolt pistol and cc weapon raptor. I like giving my guys axes because it pulls them apart from the loyalist assault marines with there chainswords a little more.

Just in case we were wondereing if my band of psychopaths were merely misunderstood, lets take a look at their rear.

Yeah, that's a flayed face, probably some deep seated issues with this crew, and the leather skin wing on the jumppacks also says we just aren't right in the head.

All in all I like these old raptors more than the new ones. Sure the new ones are more dynamic, but the old chaos feel of these guys just strikes a chord for me. I have a second unit of these guys waiting in the wings but have never had the urge to field a second unit on the table. Maybe I'll paint them to buff this unit out, or maybe they'll be a second assault unit, we'll just have to wait and see...

    Battle Rep!

So MegaDave from 40k basement has been playing with my gaming group on Thursday nights. He has written up a batrep from last week and has posted it up over at 40kbasement.com. Some good pictures and commentary and there is even a happy ending for my boys in blue! Hop on over and check out the carnage!

    Hydras for the Legion!

Wow, how time flies! A year to the day later and I finally have some new pictures!
So everyone loves a good team mascot and the Legion is no exception. Raiding far and wide the boys in blue have found a cache of hydra eggs and raised three of the pretty little critters to act as pets for the Lords and mascots for the legion in general.

So here is a face off between the legions icons.

    The triplets from the front.

This is how they look from my perspective in games.

In game terms I field these as a unit of spawn, the variable attacks nicely replicates the heads more or less working in concert and the high wounds, well look at these things the've got five heads of course they are going to soak up some fire before going down. I used Warmaster miniatures for these guys, they painted up nice and quick, a fun unit to knock out over a couple of days time.

There you go folks, the return of the Legion! Comments and criticisms are always welcome so let me know what you think, including photo size etc. I am working through a new camera and all insight is appreciated!

    Nice comeback there!
The hydras look cool. Nice idea for spawn, baby hydras. If the original photos have good focus and clarity then I'd definitely have them bigger (width 640 at the least, though I usually do 800 myself). The colors look good though and it seems they would handle being a bit bigger.

@SD: Thanks! I'll try some larger shots later today. I appreciate you giving me the hard numbers as well, that would have been hard to blunder into on my own.
