Waaagh Ardskull! - iPaint's Ork Log

So, this is my third paint log here on Warseer, and is a reincarnation of my (rather dated) log over on The-Waaagh. Since I mostly frequent Warseer, with the occasional excursion to other various sites, I thought it fitting to move the log over here where I spend most of my time.

Sadly, these pics are rather old, and I must say, I have seen a lot of excellent Ork paint jobs using the new GW washes. I am debating whether to take the bait and try my hand at the washes for my Orks instead of layering as I usually do. Keeping them Goff, I think, really helps speed up the process as a whole.

Anyway, without further ado, I give you Grimgut Ardskull's band of miscreant lads.

I think I am going to make a scenic base for this guy, since he is the Boss after all, and a strong centerpiece is needed for an Ork army.

    Some of the lads.

I really, really want to go back in with my oil paints and rust pigments and really weather the ever-loving daylights out of all the metal bits to really give them that grubby look. I also need to weather the whites, since they are rather too clean for Orks.

Many of the Boyz will have skull motifs painted onto their faces, along with a variety of dags and checks on their arms as well. A nice touch I think. I haven't decided if I want to square off the top of the skulls or leave them rounded.

I also need to figure out a basing scheme for the lot of them, and I think a dusty tan will help make the black pop out. Plus, it gives me a reason to try some more MIG pigments for the 'eavy stuff. The basing on the shootas is from a previous paint job I simply painted over, and have been too lazy to scrape off the base.

    Also, drilled barrels.

Eventually I will get some up-to-date pictures taken of the whole lot. I initially started an Ork army around this time last year, but had a wild hair around the start of the summer to start Guard.

I think I am cursed with horde armies.

The warpaint looks great, very well executed!
You may be right about squaring off the skull, be a bit more orky, but it does look great as it is!
The checks on the Warbosses PK are great too.

    Keep up the good work!

The skulls on the faces are looking very funky in my book, they remind of the DKOK masks with the skulls on.

    I don't think i've seen facepaint-skulls on orks before.

Glad to see people like the face paint. I think I am going to square off the top of the skulls and see what adding some Goff horns on the ears looks like. May be too much. We'll see.

I'll try and get some pics this weekend of the assembled horde.

I agree, the skull warpaint is amazing! I can't wait to see more of this, I can't wait to see what you do for the Boss's base.

Here's a quick mockup of what I want my Boss's new scenic base to look like. The wounded guardsmen will be painted to match my Arnan IG army, and will be looking up in terror as the Warboss gets ready to finish him.

You could have him trying to hide under a bush or something , that would be quite funny.
Looking good sofar mate, hoping for more soon.

I think that's a cool idea but if you had the guardsman facing the other way, towards the boss, it would look cooler and as if he is kinda scared and wondering if the boss has seen him or not.

    Couldn't resist the new kit.

Base isn't quite finished, and the lighting sucks, so I'll see if I can scrounge up better pics in the future.

I knicked your skull warpaint too, for my snakebite orks. I'll post pics on my thread later when I'm done painting. Thanks for the inspiration. Of course I'll only be doing about 2/5. Don't think mine came out quite as much of a skull as yours but it does look like great warpaint, not sure if its the style or the ork head itself thats causing me problems.

I have some models based in a manner your boss is (for my warmachine models). Used Woodland scenics rubber molds of rocks, sometimes broke as they can be quite long. I've used both rock hard water putty and resin to make them came out pretty good. Thought you might want to know if you are looking for something to make that base.
