hey all here is the next tactic instalment hope the last one was helpful.
Ok so I had several ideas for what do to ths wee, but decided on something for the begginers out their, I mean the very basic of army composition. FLU and MSU. For those of you who don't know the meaning of these acronims here they are MSU (multiple small units) or FLU (Few large units.) Both have their place in the realm of warhammer tactics and both can be used effectivly.
I will start with MSU. MSU is the principle idea of haveing a lot of small cheap units, you will often see this in elf armies. The reason to have the MSU tactic is versatility, manuverability, and well you don't give up a lot of victory points per unit. This is one of the ultimate units for the pincer movment, or any other typ of flanking in general. It allows you to cover a lot of the board with few units, which is very useful for expensive armies. How you use this army. Well this isn't the army for people one the defensive. Its an aggresor army. Get out their skirt the flanks and crash the front with you casulty cuasing units. You never want to go one on one with other units, crash several uits into one, divide an isolate the opponets army.
Pros.
Covers a lot of area
fast
manuverable,
versitility
cheap small units, in which you don't have to worry as much about the uits on an individual basis.
Cons
Small units,
tackes a lot of tactical planning
not a defensive army.
not much static combat resolution
in pitche dbattle you oppenent will get the plus one to see who goes first.
Armies its good for.
All elfs.
chaos.
some vampire armies (strigoi ghouls, Von carstiens wolfs)
Brettonians
Orger Kingdoms
Armie snot to good for
Dwarfs
Static vampires
tomb kings
Skaven
Orcs & Goblins
FLU nw is a few large uits with support. The basis is to have a few large units are your main ones. Cornerstone units pretty much. This is a much more defensive styled army, often working very well if their is some heavy magic or shooting support. You want a maby two or three large units to hold both flanks and the center. These units will take a lot of punishment so make sure they are large enough to sooe up the casulties or tough enough to take it. Also you are going to want support units to get you some flanks, you don't need many but things like chariots, and fast calv are often great for this army. This is a much easier style to play, but is also easier to react to tactically. This army can be played agressive as you take up much of the bord and just march forward. It is normally infantry based.
Pros
Uses a lot of the board
easier to play.
high static combat resolution
units take casulties better
much more forgiving
Can go one on one with units
Cons
less manuverable and adaptable
much slower
weakness to war machins and are effective magic
armies for
Dwarfs
Empire
Skaven
Orcs & Goblins
Brettonians (for another time very different)
Tomb kings
Vampires
Dogs of war.
Not for
elfs
Lizardmen
Chaos
Orger kingdoms
Hope this helps
