...yer mate what do you wont to know? and i have a great method quite well known but effective paint chipping method mate so fire away what do you need to know?

Well your technique for the paint chipping would be ace, paint list, etc...

@petay1985: i have two techniques for paint chipping the one i used on the tau suit was the simplest of the two. and heres the step by step:

( have model painted first before weathering)

this effect can replicate rust as well as paint chippings.

1* take a pice of sponge or foam ( e.g packing foam from a blister pack) rip slightly to create a random serface.

2* dip sponge into chaos black and dab the excess of ( you dont wont to much paint on the foam as when you are dabbing you wont get that chipped effect.)

3* stat by dabbing hard and soft in places so to apply heavy and light sections on the black.

4* chose a silver colour on the xv9 i went for boltgun metal and repeat process with a fresh piece of sponge and go over the area's you dont in black but leave little bits of the black showing to give that paint chipped look.

( for the rust repeat the same process but change you colour pallet to:

* scorched brown
*blazing orange
*fiery orange
* silver of choice>

( that was the simple and effective way of painting chipps or rust effect's onto your models.)

a more complex but highly realistic method is one used my most if not all scale modelers as far as i can tell and it is the most effective iv came across to date. ( i will be using this technique on a comission i will be reciving to do on friday.

this is called the hair spray technique. and has a lot more stages and requires more care and attention.

this is hard to show without pics so when i start the comission ill post pics of this process in all its stages.

ok stage 1

1* take you model of choice (this method works best on tanks and other armor like that.) which is painted and ready for weathering.

2* this stage will give you the rusted metal effect when the pait has chipped.
take some weathering pigment's such as mig's pigments with some orangey brown acrylic paints and mix them together ( when this drys the pigments and the paint leave a matte and slightly textured finish. paint this misture onto the area's you wont the paint to be chipped from.

3*get some hair spray (the biggest cheapest can you can find ( i use morisons own)
and decant some into a small plastic cup(so you can see it in the cup)

4* this stage is important!!! paint or airbrush the hair spray onto the area you painted the pigments onto. when it drys it will leave a semi-gloss finish to the area this is important as the hair spray acts as an adhisive barria between the pigments and the paint you will aply next.

stage 5* after it has dryed take you tanks main colours and paint or airbrush them over the rust and hairspray( dont forget to masking tape around the area's when airbrushing so the rest of the model doesnt get effected from re-spray etc... then higlight or what ever you need to do. leave to dry.

stage 6* ok so with the uper stages done the effect can now take place so get a cup of standard tap water and a wooden cocktail stick and a cotton bud. take the stick and with a craft knife cut off one of the sharp ends to make a more flatter sloped edge this will act as you chipping tool.

7* take a brush and start just brushing the water over the area just painted. this will soak into the paint and soften the hair spray undernieth. after a couple of min's letting the water soak just gently start trying to chipp and scrape the paint off and add more water if needs be

8* once the paint is softer you can chipp the paint off in any way you feel like to create the effect you are wonting and the rust colours undernieth show through giving an even better effect to the model.

9* after you have achived chipping take you rust pigments and go over the rust showing through again to get lighter frsh rust tones.

this effect is the best because unlike painting chipping effects you are literaly chipping paint away and it gives a 3D effect that you just cannot replicate using painted on methods.

iv finally finished the xv9's base i would have had it done earlier but i have been at work and havent found time until tonight.

so the client i am doing the vostroyan army for changed his mind at the last moment and wonted 2 squads of 10 men done and 2 more ogrens insted of the vendeta and a hydra.

i have a lazer destroyer to do for a different client
