Swap out war banner for flaming banner I think - Plus 1 combat res won't make a difference - with that unit you either win by a huge margin or lose by a huge margin!

Here's what I would have done:

    1) Dropped command on the Boars and given them additional choppas - and not big uns - just a cheap flanking unit
    2) Made one of the infantry units Big Uns
    3) Lucky head vs stunty basha for the level 2, just give additional choppa to big boss leader

And then run at the enemy and throw lots of dice at their face!

What it lacks in subtlety it makes up for in hittyness. I think you're right about the War Banner, might swap it out for the Swiftstride Banner and use the points for something shiny for my shaman. In a game this size, particularly agains WoC, my Boar Boys are going to be my impact unit, hence the spears and Big 'Uns upgrade.

    Hi, guys!
I would really like to do some unit fillers in my NG blocks of 45-50, could you please share some ideas?

Or maybe add a stone troll in the middle of the unit ... 20mm bases with mushrooms on them work fine too ... bits of bark painted as rocks ... a little diorama of Night Goblins squabbling ... or restraining/launching a Fanatic ...

I'm sure there are more, but that's all I have right now

beware of hidden shipping costs. i'm not familiar with that company, but often that money you think you saved ends up just being moved in to the shipping column of your bill with online suppliers

Re: Dreams of greatness - A Greenskins rise to glory!

Guess whose bak?! Da Gobbos are bak!!

    Goooooooooood Mooorrrrnnnnniiinnnngggg Orcs & Gobbos!!!!!!

Greetings and welcome back Greenskin Luvvas!!!! Jind Singh is back for another season of Greenskin related writings and rambles!

Give it up for an Angry Greenskin Rawr!!

Geez what a ride since the last time we got together (plus I just started FOUR sentences with the letter G!), all kinds of madness and mayhem has been hitting table tops since we last rambled - the most significant of all....

    Blood in the Badlands

A 3 month campaign were yours truly teamed up with over 26 players and toughed it out over a three month campaign - all in the name of some floating rock - dese hummies are daft gitz!

So let us begin there - our local Gamesworkshop (GW Highgate, best GW store in the World, official) used over THREE Mighty Empire maps to faithfully recreate the Blood in the Badlands map - it was epic! Everything was included from the local landmarks to the actual geography of the map - and over 26 players were given 5 tiles each along with a fortress to start a year of hard fought wars.

Once a week, Thursdays, was the official map movement week and campaign turns - before the next week we would have to play a game each to either defend our lands or go after other lands. Funnily enough I didn't get many chances to invade lands as people were too busy invading my lands - the 1st week alone saw THREE High Elf armies invade my beloved tribal lands - those pointy eared freaks - but I was able to fend them off.

As the weeks turned into months it soon became clear that an all out conquest was not going to be feasible - being a natural target for most of the players - who either wanted to beat me, hurt me, or just have the chance to say they played me, I wasn't able to steal the march most weeks.

I did, however, manage to play some great games including such events like:

SIEGE GAMES! You heard it, I played my first ever siege games! Was fantastic!
Storm of Magic games - lots of
Multiplayer games - attended all four end of season games
Siege WITH Storm of Magic rules included - what a head twirler that was!
    Underground battles

The weekly random events also allowed players chances to take over other lands without invading them - which is how they were able to crush my chances of growing my Empire! By the end of the campaign I still only lay claim to SIX tiles - a net increase of ONE tile to my territorial lands - pretty sad if you think about it - but I did come third overall for total amount of relics and land (each tile counted as a relic).

However, saying all that, there was some glorious sagas and tales - especially Da Last Legion - who claimed a flaming banner during the campaign and were granted the 'Cause Fear' special rule! Add to this poison from the BSB you can soon see why this deadly unit claimed:

    Skaven Vermin Lord
    Necrosphnixs
    Dragons
    Vampire Lords
    Bone Giants
    Warmachines of all ilk

While my Warboss got fenzy and a stash of magic trinkets that he actually shared out with the tribe!

Far and away the leader of the campaign was a Dark Elf player - whose the worst kind as he ACTUALLY KNOWS how to play Warhammer - my preferred way of beating Dark Elves is to hope that their general isn't good!

As I go into some details and battle reports I'll take you along on the roller coaster ride that was my first ever campaign - more to come to the pages of our beloved Greenskins thread!

Until then - keep on Waaaghing!

Re: Dreams of greatness - A Greenskins rise to glory!

Getting Started with Blood in the Badlands...

Now that the campaign is over I can look back in hindsight and will recommend the following:

    1) Keep a REALLY good tracker of what's going on each week - the event organizers had a spreadsheet AND a binder which contained everyone's army rosters/notes in. They also updated a summary sheet each week to see who gained relics, what event did they roll, and what did they get for mine rolls, etc.

    2) Build some suitable army counters - FOUR or FIVE counters. Thinking I only had 3 armies I built three really nice counters:

Common Goblin head & common goblin shield
Night Goblin head & fanatic ball
Half a giant spider and a spider rider shield

But one week I rolled a 66 on the event table and had to use a round base with my initials painted on! Looking back I should have made 4 or 5 counters!

    3) Make good house rules - play a siege game or two before the campaign starts. Practice moving armies and issuing challenges so you can see what issues may arise ahead of time - and put in place house rules to compensate. Blood in the Badlands is not a hard core rule book - it's an ideas book.

    4) Make some special counters to represent the special objectives in the map - this really adds to the flavor!

    5) Choose your leaders wisely! I made three standard Goblin Warbosses - all had 4+ ward saves with great axes - my plan was as the campaign went on I'd add free magic items to characters - but what I overlooked was:

    - One end of season game allows you to field magic users FOR FREE
    - End game allows ALL generals to be fielded FOR FREE

Had I paid attention I would have taken an army counter, which wasn't for use as such, just minding shop or what have you - and made their leader a Black Orc Warboss, heavy armor, shield, Wyvern, Wizarding hat - he'd have been free for both games!! And since I would have placed him on a counter I didn't plan to get creative with he wouldn't see normal battle unless I wanted to!

    6) FREE MAGIC ITEMS - ok, while in theory this sounds great as the campaign wears on it does get silly - so put a cap on it!!! I would say allow the items for the characters, they are free, but still count to the characters natural points limit - so say he has armor of destiny (which you paid for) AND then he rolls a free 50 point magic item - by all means give him one - but he's maxed out his allowance even though it didn't cost him - this would prevent abusive character builds.

    7) Breached walls - this rule mechanic needs revising - in theory it sounds good, in practice very unsatisfying to play out. If a wall is breached and you beat the unit inside in combat - if the unit breaks they break. But EVEN F they just lose a combat they are still ejected from the breached wall.

I would have preferred a modified break test roll - but winners can't pursue they can exist the building and end their turn.

Small things like that came up - and it's a shame we didn't resolve them ahead of time.

Well that's it for tonight - later this week I'll do some battle reports or three! Stay Tuned - Mork Luvs ya all!

Re: Dreams of greatness - A Greenskins rise to glory!

Laying waste to the monuments of mankind - how to break into someones castle and claim it as your own!!!

Since time began the despised and weak races of pink skins have kept our hordes at bay cowering behind their stone walls and towers - denying us our right to despoil and rampage willy nilly through the lands of our stomp-right!

But it's not all fun and games taking on the mighty citadels of our enemies - and here's why:

    1) WS and initiative penalty to storming walls - it's not like our Ini and WS stats are great to begin with - when they become halved thanks to storming a wall it's not doing us any favors!

    2) Strength in numbers - the accursed race of mutant Ratmen are not the only ones who rely on overwhelming numbers and odds - our beloved Greenies love nothing more than a fight were numbers favor the Waaagh but there is no rank/flanking/rear charge bonus - combat res is down to the wound count and that's it!

    3) No tricks! Fanatics, Manglers, re-rolling to hit/wound when flanking with our buffs, stomps and thunderstomps, chariots, charge bonus for weapons for mounted troops - there is a wealth of battlefield tricks we rely on to do damage - all of which are rudely taken from us when we lay siege to the walls of a castle!

So with all this in mind let's see what the in's and out's of a siege game look like...

IT'S ALL ABOUT TAKING THE OBJECTIVES...

Three objectives stand between you and destiny - you need all three to win, two to force victory points as a decider - and it's not going to be easy clearing out the sronghold in a short period.

When placing the objective bear in mind you control the placement of TWO of them - and this is crucial as it allows you to clump them together so you can try to bring over whelming force to bear in one section, OR spread them around and try to keep the enemy on their toes. But be warned - siege lays waste to your troops and you'll burn through you ladz in next to no time - perhaps to the point were you can't launch the assault!

For me placing an objective on the main gates was crucial as if I didn't hold the gates there is a chance that the enemy relief force can raise the siege! I would then see were the enemy placed their next token and would try to place the 3rd and final counter so at least two objectives were adjacent to one another.

    PRE-GAME PHASE...

At first when I read the rules for siege the immediate thought was to cause as many breeches in the walls as possible - especially on sections which held objectives - after all it would then be a matter of ease to swarm in and take the walls by force!!!

    .......wrong....

What I found was that a breached wall acted as a double edged sword - a decent combat character will romp his/her way through a castle wall with ease - as you can only use your 10 rank & file troopers vs a kitted out Combat lord - who only needs to win a combat and automatically force your attackers out!

This happened in a game vs the Dark Elves were I had wiped out almost all the defenders - but two unstoppable Dreadlords cleaned house and re-took two objectives!

So I suggest that you look to breech adjacent sections to objectives and launch assaults into key sections of the castle from the newly taken walls or leave them to the siege towers (see below for further notes on siege towers).

This means that we try to hold the key sections using our stubborn leadership rather than being forced out.

Pre-game phase also puts an importance on our warmachines - I found the Doom Divers to be masters of them all with the correction to scatter, the lobbas were questionable - if the center hole hit the wall/towers then it was D6 strength 9 hits - but a slight deviation sees them veer off target - or hits with a low strength 3. What I did enjoy was the ability to destroy enemy war machines or even cause a breech for our ladz!

Right tools for the right job...

By far the best item money can buy is the amazing siege tower! Not only is a great kit, it's highly suited to make it more custom - and fit your army look. In my case I added magnets to the inside of the tower super structure with glue and was able to stick on, via magnets, orc banners and other icons I deemed fit. This way when I need a more basic and bland tower I can pull off the extras and be ready to go!

Gamewise they rocked the house - resign yourself to seeing one get destroyed pre-game via sally out purchases - but it is what it is.

DON'T FORGET - once the tower joins a castle, and if the troops who assault from them, the attackers take a break test!!!

But what really runs the show are Savage Orcs - lots of them!! Only troop type we have with a wardsave, 3 attacks, and if Big Uns...holy mackerel!

Right tools also include monster clubs to smash down walls/gates - but any multi-attack models like Savages and Squigs make EXCELLENT shock troops.

Monsters also excel as they can actually take a building once they win! Not just troops!

My twin doom divers were the real stars, helping to clear out a section at a time!

In a siege I also drop banners from lists as they are not needed for the most part - saves me points

    Ware the relief force!

When I played vs the Dark Elves their relief unit - Harpies - came on really quick - bearing this in mind I had to position my shaman carefully to pluck those over-sized pigeons out of the very sky! Make use of Squig Hoppers, fanatics, or Manglers, cav units, chariots to hunt down the relief forces - but don't get side tracked and waste too many points on forming that task force - we have a siege to conduct, and that will cost us boyz/Gobbos!

Above all enjoy these kinds of games - they can be a lot of fun but you will both need to sit down prior to a game and make sure you're both ok with the rules - but a small bit of common sense enables you have some of the most amazing fun you'll have with our Hobby and our beloved Greenskins!!

    Until the next time...

I'm still envious And I have that mammoth castle to try out, too Btw, I've made rules for BitB equipments (see sig), you might find them interesting, who knows. Plus I need feedback for point balance and checking English translation

Re: Dreams of greatness - A Greenskins rise to glory!

At the races – a 1500 point 10 person tournament

    Hello Folks,

Had the pleasure of attending a small, and cozy, 10 person tournament, 1500 points, dusting off the Gobos for battle once more! I decided to stick with my tried and tested army, just downsized, and so I had:

Goblin Warboss, armor of destiny, great axe
Goblin Big Boss BSB, Terrifying mask of Eeeee! Glittering scales, shield
45 common Goblins, full command, bows/shields, 3 nasty skulkers

Night Goblin Big Boss, enchanted shield, light armor
    Night Goblin Shaman, level 2
48 Night Goblins, full command, 1 fanatic, netters, handweapons/shields

Night Goblin Big boss, spear, light armor, shield, giant Squig (Big Jobz!)
    5 Squig Hoppers

    15 Squigs, 10 herders
    Mangler Squig
    Arachnarok Spider

It was three games, standard missions but with secondary missions added in. The event was comped – all lists were rated prior to the event by the judges. A score of 20 meant the list was VERY soft indeed, a score of zero meant the army couldn’t play. The 1st round pairings were based on the comp scores so a broken list would square off against a broken list, soft list vs soft list.

Game One – Disturbance in the Warp, Part One

    Daemons vs Goblins

The game was standard pitched battle but there were 3 objectives placed in along the center line, equal spacing. Each counter represented a magical artifact that held a bound spell, casting value same as the spells casting value. I remember them as Ice Shard, Regrowth, and Flaming sword of Rhun. Each objective was worth some bonus points, and if you owned all three you won the secondary mission also.

    His army was:

    Slaanesh herald, siren song
    19 Daemonettes, full command

    Khorne Herald
    19 Bloodletters

    Fiend

    Fiend

    5 Flamers of Tzeentch

10 Seekers of Slaanesh, full command

And now that I write his list I see that his list is illegal as the Fiends are rare choices – he needed to field them as a single unit! The game went pretty bad for him – he’s not played against the 8th ed Greenskins so there was some cautious play on his behalf. The game started well with his 1st turn being a non-event. He ran one fiend up the flank to grab one of the tokens but the rest of his army ambled forwards at a slow place. His flamers, however, opened up on the Mangler, who thanks to moving in such an erratic fashion, only took 2 wounds.

My triple Squig threat on the left flank (herd team, hoppers, and Mangler), quite rightly, made his advance on that flank quite timid. His spell was short ranged (2D6 inches) so we moved to my turn. My Night Goblins decided it was a great time to bring up old disputes and started squabbling! The rest of my army advanced but the Squig Hoppers roared out of the starting lines – smashing into the Fiend. A quick, and savage, combat ensued but the fiend was disassembled in a short period of time – even as the Daemon was still evaporating, the Squig Hopers overran into the unit of Flamers!

His turn he started to push the advance, his daemonettes ran full tilt (geez those things are fast!), with support coming from the other fiend and blood letters. His seekers ran in a giant circle to avoid the oncoming Squigs. Combat, again, proved to be deadly as the Squigs made short work of the Flamers and over ran. Then it happened – he had moved his level 1 Slaanesh herald into spell range and cast his spell, irresistible force, rolled a 5” on 2D6, failed to harm any of my units…

But lost a 1/3 of his own unit AND his herald on the miscast!

After that things went downhill fast – my spider crushed his other fiend, Da Last Legion crushed the Daemonettes, well the unit champ was left alive, while the rest of my forces advanced. I put my units in such a position that even if his Bloodletters charged they were going to face a flanking world of hurt! The spider rushed off to the left flank to go get the last objective - it was looking bleak!

His turn saw his Seekers kill poor Big Jobz (who didn’t’ die, he was pretending you see!) and they overran off the table to avoid the Mangler Squig!

My Squig Herd was able to get to grips with the Blood Letters – a frontal charge and a flank charge by the Arachnork spelt the end of those pesky buggers – though it took 2 turns to do so – and my Mangler squig also ran amok and killed a few daemons here and there.

At the end of the game all he had was his Seekers – which I charged with the Spider – and the last 2 rounds of combat saw the Spider tear them apart – though she did take FIVE wounds doing so, a new born respect was found for this unit.

Game Two – Disturbance in the Warp, Part Two

Daemons again but of a much harder variety! Pitched battle but the twist was for every unit we got into the enemy deployment zone we got bonus points….fat chance as this time I faced:

    Daemon Prince, ASF
Herald on disc of Tzeentch, lore master life
Herald of Khorne, BSB, on Jugger

    36 Bloodletters, FC, horde formation
    5 Flamers
    5 Fleshhounds

I saw this army and my jaw dropped – I had no idea what to do as nothing in my army had the punch or staying power to take on so many Bloodletters! I saw a village on the left flank, a collection of 3 buildings, so I took that side and deployed. I noticed that the gap between 2 of the buildings was enough to place Da Last Legion but not wide enough to all the horde through! So I parked them there!

To the far left was the triple squig threat, to the right of the village was the Night Goblins. The spider deployed behind a house – ready to swing left or right or go up the center. I got 1st turn and advanced, cautiously – apart from the Mangler who rolled triple 4’s and blew itself up!! My Night Goblin Shaman spied the enemy caster on his disc so threw a 3D6 str 3 magic missile at him – though I only used 4 dice I total powered it anyway!!! I watched as I caused 4 wounds, he saved one with a 6+ save…rolled his 4++ wards….and DIED!! Only made one of the wards! HA!

But then the resultant miscast caused my Shaman to forget BOTH his spells!! So we did a wizard exchange! Only difference was mine was alive at least!

His army advanced once more as nothing was in combat range other than – his flamers shot up the Squig Herd, felling 5 Squigs and 7 Herders 

My turn I jumped the useless shaman out and ran him behind a building for cover, while his unit did a swift reform to face the approaching Fleshounds. The Legion prepared to fire a volley of arrows but the main action occurred when the Spider charged the Daemon Prince!! Yeah! Though she took 3 wounds she also did 3 wounds on the Prince of Darkness!

He countered in his turn by flanking the Spider with flamers – his hounds charged the Night Goblins – whose fanatic did…2 hits! Two wounds….two ward saves! WHAT!?! In return the fanatics did 5 wounds to my own unit as I had launched them from the rear of my unit to minimize the chances of them over shooting their mark! Waaagh!

Close combat was a tense affair – the Hounds managed to lose combat BY ONE but held the line – The prince swung again and did another THREE wounds on the Spider – who turned around and SMASHED the Prince apart! The Squig Herd did a number on the flamers, who did one wound on the Spider (1 wound left) but then the Goblins and thunderstomp took care of the rest of the pesky flamers!!!

Seeing his plans unfold his Bloodletters declared a charge on one of the Squig units but failed – and his Fleshounds carried on failing at life!

At this point I was pretty happy – he had just the horde unit and a few hounds – so I hung around, moved around a bit, and carried on killing fleshounds! His horde did charge the squig hoppers and did a number on them – but overrun failed to catch anything. I redeployed a bunch of units to swarm him – but took out some time to pepper him with bows. In the end he did kill the squig herd, hoppers, spider, in close combat (I tried to do a triple charge from front, side, and rear, but everyone failed apart from flanking spider – who might have lived but NO the gobos to the front failed a charge! As a result the Khorne Herald made way and cut the last legs of my big bug!

We did get into combat finally with the horde on Da Last Legion – who lost combat…needed to roll an 8 on 2D6 with a reroll….and they failed! Lucky for me I out ran the horde. When we counted up the points I was ahead by….

    NINETY FIVE POINTS!!!

IF only I made that last breaktest on ld 8 WITH A RE-ROLL!!!

Game three – to the Grave

Final game was Blood & Glory, but the game didn’t auto-end when someone got it – the blood & glory gained you 350 vp. The bonus went to whoever got the most enemy banners. This time I faced a very pleasant player, who I had the fortune of meeting last year at the same event, with his gorgeous looking Vampires!

    30 Skelton warriors, Necromancer
    20 Grave Guard, Vampire
    20 ghouls
    Varghulf
    Spirit Host
    Spirit Host

I deployed my army as far forward as it could go – left to right it was:

    Squig Herd-Da Last Legion-Mangler Squig-Night Goblins-Hoppers-Spider
    Ghouls-Spirit Host-Grave Guard-Skeletons-varghulf-spirit host

I got the 1st turn, doing a full advance with my troops, the Shaman did a total power magic missile to destroy the spirit host next to the Varghulf – he did take a wound from the miscast. Next he did a total power Bad Moon and killed about a 1/3 of the Grave Guard! He suffered not from the miscast!

Shooting allowed me to take a few more Grave Guard down by the Legion.

He charged my Squig Hoppers with his Vargulf and tore them apart – over running into my Spider. His Ghouls charged my Squig Herd on the other flank – but the poor guy – 2 phases in a row his magic blew – either not rolling well or getting low power. The Squigs and ghouls embarked on a war of mutual extinction, killing each other by the handful! But I still out ranked him so was able to hold the line.

In my turn my Night Goblins decided that it would be better to charge the Varghulf than hold the line and send murderous magic into the Vampire lines – so off they went! Needless to say I destroyed the poor Varghulf – the Squig Herd and Ghouls carried on killing each other – down to a single Squig and 8 gobbos now!

He flanked the Herd with the other spirit host while the Skeletons charged the Night Goblins! His Grave Guard advanced as he was looking to raise them…but failed epically with poor dice (he did get the spell off but I dispelled it!!).

Combat came and went – troops from both sides died but nothing changed – until my turn when the Spider support charged the Skeletons, Da Last Legion charged the remaining Grave Guard. Poor Skeletons got disassembled in mere minutes, also killing the Necromancer with crumbling!

The Grave Guard had great weapons but the Vampire prepared to strike – but before she could do so 2 Skulkers jumped out and flashed their teeth, knives, and stabbed at the Vampire. Only ONE hit from six…

I looked at the model who made the hit – it has a knife with a serrated edge – and I pointed at my opponents model and declared:

“I’m going to cut your Vampire’s head off at the neck with my serrated rusty knife edge”

And promptly rolled a SIX for KILLING BLOW!! The other player started laughing as what else could he do?! By the end of that turn, we still had one more to go, he had the Spirit host and 3 ghouls – I had my entire army deployed in a long, narrow column facing the rear of the Spirit host – and he called the game as next turn he was wiped out anyway!

    The Final Countdown…

So the results came in – a Wood Elf player came 1st (He’s come 1st last 2-3 tournaments), I came SECOND – and I was only FOUR points behind him!!!!!! Had I made that stupid ld 8, with a re-roll, I’d have got 5 more battle points making me 1st – but the main take away was I came, I saw, and I mostly conquered! Besting two Daemons was great, I got to hang out with some great hobby folk and made some new friends – and represented the Gobbos once more!

    Keep on trucking!

Da Shaman's Say so- Q & A from aspiring Greenskins...

A new spin to the thread - a questions and answers, sort of like a 'Dear Agony Aunt"

A fellow Warseer sent me a PM with some good questions, and it was such a good question I wanted to share the answer incase others had similar questions.

You can PM a question about anything Greenskin related and I'll ask Da Shaman for his Say So!

Names have been changed to protect the lives of the innocent...(Apart from my own name of course!)

I desperately want to settle down, and begin an army. And I was starting to enjoy the thoughts of bretonnians, but when I read about your night goblin hordes marching up a field of lava and dying enmasse, without a care in the world, and still winning the match, I loved the thought.

My only worry is, I love Orcs and their awesome brutality but I also love goblins and I want to almost mimic your pure gobbo force. I guess what i am saying is, I want a large army, that I can switch my builds up with and Develop my own WAAAGH! I just don't know how a combined force of Orcs and Goblins play, and whether its better just to dedicate yourself to a single type (Orcs or Gobbos).

Also, How good are OnG at what they do? I know they are supposed to be a horde army, but do they have staying power? Do they have damage potential?

I am sorry to bother you with these questions. I just see how you have such massive passion for your boyz, and I want to try and share it!

    Thanks mate!

    Mr Pajamas,

First of all the most important statement...

"Throw another shrimp on the BBq Mate, you're in for a great party!!!"

That's right - we got it all!!

    An Ode to Orc...

If you want brute, savage, hitting power then look no further than our Orc cousins! If I don't talk about them much, play with them much, or get excited about them much don't let that fool you. There is a very simple explanation....

    I'm a racist!

I love my Gobbos and all other greenskins can go whistle! But jokes aside we have the best army in Warhammer thanks to great models, great rules, and great feelings!

    Orcs in a vacuum

Let's face it - few things hit harder than a decent unit of Boyz on the go. Savage Orcs get to throw out three strength four attacks, strength five if they are Orc Big Uns! Black Orcs pack a wicked left jab, and even humble orc boyz can do some minor damage - especially if supported by characters! In an all Orcs army you'd want to take a mix of all 3 tribes - but be sure to take the right combos...

40 Savage Orcs Big uns with extra choppas...they need an orc shaman with the lucky head to give them a 5+ ward save. They would also need a character with the crown of command to stay the course of the battle.

Black Orcs I find work best in groups of 20-30 - if you horde them they HAVE to be stubborn curtsey of the crown of command - But I like them 5-6 wide with depth in ranks.

Normal Orcs - I think the magic number for me is 6 by 6 to get a decent 36 Boyz - but normal boyz are so mediocre in dealing out damage compared to Savages & Blacks that my only use for them is to bunker my characters - who do the serious fighting - while the boyz are there to provide a stable rank bonus!

Orc units, more so than Goblins, HAVE TO HAVE SUPPORT when fighting as you'll soon find that they just don't cut the mustard in a straight up fight! Yes they are tough and strong - but WS3 isn't the best - so hitting might be an issue! Then with normal strength 3/4 (with Choppas 1st round) you may also find that they don't kill much either - this is why they are a perfect support unit vs being a hammer unit!

Back the foot troops with chariots of all descriptions and now your cooking!!!

(More to the article later....bed time!)

Re: Dreams of greatness - A Greenskins rise to glory!

    Common as muck!!

Woah there Greenies! Just got back from a trip to the UK were I actually got to see Warhammer World! I took a wee in the Bugman brew vats of ale as no self-respleckin Greenie would do less - but that place is AMAZING!!!

So I've been quiet and absent from this thread for quite a good reason - I was lost!

A while back someone started a thread asking why it would be hard doing just an Orcs & Goblins army - so no Savages, Blacks, Nights, Forests - just plain old vanilla Orcs & Goblins! This threw me off as I thought why would this be? Sure the other tribes bring a LOT to the table but surely the classic Greenskins could hold their own! So after much soul searching and torment I finally came up with:

Orc Warboss, Armour of destiny, great axe
Orc Big Boss, light armour & shield
34 Orc Boyz, full command, shields

    Goblin Warboss, great axe
Goblin Big Boss BSB, spider banner, shield
45 Gobbos, full command, bows/shields, 3 nasty Skulkers

10 Big Un Boar Boyz, full command, spears & shields

    Boar Chariot
    Boar Chariot
    Wolf Chariot
    Wolf Chariot

    Spear Chukka
    Spear Chukka
    Doom Diver
    Doom Diver

    Giant
    Giant

10 Wolf Riders, bows and musician

    Level 4 Goblin Great Shaman
    Level 1 Orc Shaman

Comes to 2499 points on the dot!

It's not as tricksy as my normal Gobbos only list but I think it'll surprise a few players out there! This is going to be my summer project - I'll use the Gobbos only list for a tournament in July (over 50 players!) but for normal gaming it's going to be the 'Common as muck' list!!

The goal is to use war machines and magic to whittle down the dangerous elements of the enemy lists while my army advances. The duel threat of Giants on the Flanks will provide nice juicy targets to keep my Chariots and boar boyz alive - bigger fish to fry with 12 wounds worth of Giants!

The Orc unit was kept small to minimize the mental threat level - but packing 2 characters and support from chariots and boar boyz combat res won't be an issue.

The Gobbos are there to do what they do best - shot/stab enemy with poison, while the Wolf Riders will either be a distraction screen - deployed 10 wide, sideways, to screen the entire front line from incoming missile fire (looking at you Dark Elves!) or be a rank breaker unit - or just generally annoy and harass the foe.

The war machines were taken in pairs so they can shoot the same target per turn trying to kill some heat packing enemy units before the going gets too tough!

And that would be my answer - I think I could play them competitively as well as have lots of casual and fun games with them...

    Enjoy!!!

Your way of using the wolf riders strike me as very risky. screening goblins with 10 wolves? You're asking for panic checks, friend. It's a strange army you got there, and you don't have enough units imho. Two giants is too many points. Only two units, one being MSU, at 2500pts? Won't work imho.

Re: Dreams of greatness - A Greenskins rise to glory!

Ah but panic with ld 9 re-rollable!

I am also with you when you talk about the lack of infantry units - but the only way around this would be to cull the chariots and a Giant - but once you take out one giant you have to take out both - as a single giant goes down pretty fast!

It's a distraction list - there is no one single viable target - everything presents a mild threat level - which I find sometime makes the opponent sloppy!

We'll see how it goes this week when I take it out in the field - I'll try to get this really good Dark Elf player to have a game against me - if it does ok with him it can't be that bad!

Well I've failed a few rerollable panic checks of my own, so, in my opinion, avoiding them as much as possible is best

Re: Dreams of greatness - A Greenskins rise to glory!

It's me Burday and we're gonna stomp EVERYONE!!!

Good morning Waaaghseers! (And Happy Canada Day to the Canadians!!)

So this coming Thursday is an auspicous day - NOT ONLY am I hitting the ripe old age of 35, and hence halfway there, it also marks TWENTY FIVE YEARS IN THE HOBBY!!! I remember just before I turned 10 I was watching some random daytime childrens show when it happpened...

    Milton Bradley's Heroquest advert!

I was STUNNED by the advert and knew I had to have this prized game! But at TWENTY POUNDS it was beyond my three pound savings - so alas it wasn't to be! But then came my 10th birthday and lo and behold - my favorite sister-in-law bought me Heroquest for my birthday and I was HOOKED! Inside the box was a booklet entitled:

"How to paint your citidal minature, by Mike McVey"

With the hallowed Games Workshop logo. As I read the booklets from cover to cover I was hooked by the story of a once trusted wizard's pupil turning to Chaos and using the fell legions of Chaos to overcome his one-time advisor and mentor - and within the legions were the Greenskins!!!

Not too long after I remember walking though Leicester city center and lo and behold on Silver Street - I saw the Games Workshop sign and asked me mother if we could go look - and as I entered the tendrils of Chaos laid their seductive grasp upon my mind - and now twenty five years later the urge is no less - if anything I'm MORE of a nut for GW games now than ever before!

    Warhammer
    Warhammer 40k
    Lord of the Rings
    War of the Rings
    Warmaster
    Battlefleet Gothic

Are all games I'll play as often as I can though the lions share goes to Warhammer of course (and recently 40k thanks to the 6th ed release) - but we all know it's about the Greenskins!

Well the other week I was talking to Owen, manager of GW Highgate (And North Americas longest serving memeber of staff!) about my upcoming birthday and it dawned on me that I've NEVER had a birthday party in some corporate setting - no McDonalds bday party, no Chucky Cheese Party - nada!

So I asked him, tounge in cheek, to throw me a GW party as just a few weeks before I saw some young boys come in and have a party- they threw them a mega-battle game and showed them how to paint a minature afterwards - towards the end the mother came in with a cake - and I thought why not me?!

But you gotta Jind Singh it up!

So lo and behold this coming Saturday 7th July we'll be doing...

    Big Jobz against da Wurld!!!!

Owen said nothing is more epic than me using my ENTIRE Greenskin collection and pit it against my friends! SO I'll be using my 16,000 point horde vs a grand alliance of about 9 players, each with 2000 points, and we'll be fighting it out over an epic prize - a castle and the local village! There will be twists, there will be carnage, and above all lots and LOTS of dice rolling!!!

I'll post a map up tonight of the battlefield and I'll post my army list.
