Thread: Horus Heresy - Night Lords

    Horus Heresy - Night Lords

I just read this on Aaron Dembski-Bowden's blog.

So let’s just say that he came back to Earth and changed his mind. We’ll leave it at that. His next Horus Heresy book will probably be a Night Lords book, set in the Age of Darkness period – the several years after the Dropsite Massacres and before the Siege of Terra.

I haven't read Soul Hunter yet (will get to that soon), but this sounds interesting.

A friend of mine has and he said he absolutely loved it. From what I here Dembski-Bowden writes fantastic stories and this one should be no exception. Interesting to see if its all set in the Age of Darkness as I'd like to see the Night Lords before the Heresy starts

What short stories does he have out this year?
Too many. This is killing his novel flow, for real.

‘At Gaius Point’ is in Legends of the Space Marines, and is about the Flesh Tearers.
‘The Core’ is in Fear the Alien, and features First Claw, from Soul Hunter.
Throne of Lies is his audiobook, also featuring First Claw.
‘Regicide’ is his story for the Sabbat Worlds Anthology, which is almost finished.
‘Savage Weapons’ is his story for the Horus Heresy anthology, Age of Darkness. His story for the working-titled ‘Favourite Recipes of the Space Marines’ may or may not have a working title itself, and that title may or may not be ‘Despoiler’.
    …and a secret one, too.
Another HH compilation on its way then.

Soul Hunter was a good read.
Only in the end did it suffer from My-characters-are-the-best-and-super-super syndrome.
So the end was a bit of a letdown.
Somehow with a lot of (GW) writers they seem to forget the math/reality in the end.
(space marine vs chaos space marines = about equals deaths on bots sides not on one side only)
But I'll definitely pick up another book by mister Dembski Bowden

I liked Soul Hunter greatly, it gets to sit next to Storm of Iron on my shelf, and anything with Night Lords would be great (so long as it isnt written like crap!)

This is excellent - there's been sort of a thinking that the siege occurred almost immediately after Isstvan, I'm excited to see the intervening period fleshed out.

IIRC this will pit the Night Lords against the Space Wolves/Dark Angels yes?

I'm still halfway through The First Heretic, and I have the second in the Night Lords series, after Soul Hunter, to do next. So if this NL HH book ever happened, it'll be a bit of a wait; it's barely in the concept stage at the moment.

I might make this the dedication in the Soul Hunter sequel.

I'm very impressed with your work; the fact that your blog shows you're a human with a sense (although dark and twisted) sense of humor makes you one of my favorite black library authors. Specifically, it goes yourself, Graham Mcneill, and Dan Abnett.

Looking forward Helsreach and First Heretic.

Negatory. This is one of the bigger challenges regarding the HH series at the moment, I think. Some people still think that.

And it's not their fault for thinking it, either. The lore so far has remained nastily vague. But no, in short, the Horus Heresy lasted "several years" after the Dropsite Massacre. There were "several years" of all-out war, while half of the Imperium swore itself to Horus. He had to raise the armies necessary to break Terra, among other things.

Thanks, J. Muchos 'ppreciated. I'm still very new, so it's sorta weird for me when people have even read my work, let alone know what's coming next.

Mr. Aaron, you have quickly become one of my favorite Black Library autors. Cadian Blood was a high-yield enjoyment to read and Soul Hunter blew me away. I love that you bring to light the the 41ist M. Chaos Marines are a pale shadow of their former selves and are not as "End of Days" as some other authors and publications make them out to be. Keep up the good work!

BTW, I eagerly look forward to seeing Deltrian again!

Perfect . A confirmation is always welcome and the book definitely worth it.

Aaron, I thought you said you were gonna stop coming to these forums... (It's Fredric from FB btw). Got Soul Hunter sitting here on the desk. Gonna plunge into it once I get through A Thousand Sons.

You should also seriously consider making that duck your agent. Or one of those irish small folks. Preferably one with red hair and freckles that drinks and swears alot. Could be me apart from the irish, hair, freckles and drinking though.

Keep up the good work! Know you'll have many fantastic and entertaining stories to tell with your books. I second the question regarding fantasy though? That section of the BL could definitively do with a little fleshing out. Feels kind of generic at the moment...

Ya gotta love when the author himself comes in to comment on his own book! Of course it was secret squirel spoiler stuff so I won't quote it but nice novel and nice to see ya here!

Thanks, man. For the record, I liked Deltrian a whole bunch, so expect him to be in every book, one way or another.

Uh. Um. I haven't got any plans to jump into Fantasy at the moment, partly because my pitches are (thankfully) getting snapped up for 40K, so my schedule is insanely busy, and partly because I'm lame: the races I'd like to write about (High Elves, Dark Elves) already have big names concentrating on them. I get away with a lot because the editors love me, but I'm also very new, so I don't get to dive into absolutely anything on demand.
