More terrain from Ewan! For Warps at Hull Uni! (PIC HEAVY!)

Here is an update on the scenery I have been making for the Wargames group at Hull Uni.

This is lot 2 and the 3rd lot includes a right angle bend river section with a waterfall dropping into it. A 15" columned walkway with cracked paving. 3 more forested bases.

Ok! Badly painted Ezekial for scale purposes only!
River section, with small rock bridge.

    River section 2

    Culvert and hill.

    Pond lake thing

You cheeky beggars, nothing useful ever got done for 40k when I was at Hull Uni!

Maybe this time you convinced Jason to spend the budget on the society instead of boosting his own armies

The Terrain looks nice enough, and the painting's up to scratch, I'd just be concerned about the terrain disappearing to Jason or Dave's house and never making it back to the cupboard
Zark not believe in democracy. We go left!

Thx! Much appreciated! Some of these were quite complicated. In between uni, sleep eating and trying to be social they took best part of a month for all of them.

Really nicely done terrain... I love the streams. Care to give away the secret of how the stream was done?

Re: More terrain from Ewan! For Warps at Hull Uni! (PIC HEAVY!)

Gladly. No secret really. The banks of the streams were made from white polystyrene insulation. Only u have to use a polystyrene cutter to cut it into strips. Glue it to the base with PVA. Pressing down on each peice as u add it. Wipe away excess PVA.

Then take these oblong shapes and cut them diagonally with the inside edge being the part under water. Then do the other side. The water side edge must be very "sharp" and the outside edge dull. What u can do (as I have) is add extra strips inside to make the stream meander more.

Add different size gravel and slate.

Then cover the whole thing in PVA and pour over sand. When thats all dry. paint the whole thing with textured masonry paint. Not too thickly though as this stuff is just to seal the sand and pva in!

Spray the whole thing black, Then drybrush progressively lighter shades of grey (or brown) till u get to space wolves grey (or graveyard earth). Pick out the larger rocks with bleached bone on other suitably contrasting colour. Then... get some black ink and paint it into the space where the water is to go then while its still wet blend it with water to make the base look wet and the details of the riverbed stand out.

Then add the water effect or resin.

Make sure it's not Jase who writes it then

When I was at Warps we just used Necro scenery.

    The scenery looks good.

The scenery looks really good, but if I may express my opinion, I find it to be too grey, the rocks don't quite look like rocks and more like blocks of broken concrete, in part because of the texture and because of the colour, but besides from that, the river looks nice, I like particularly the murky water look.

I have been considering some mdf boards textured using the same masonry paint. Spayed black and drybrushed.

Gonna basecoat the last lot of scenery tonight then I have to get more mdf for the vacformed plastic buildings. Gonna borrow a jig saw this time hehe.

Re: More terrain from Ewan! For Warps at Hull Uni! (PIC HEAVY!)

I was thinking you might want to add some brown wash to the rocks to make them look a little more natural, that way they aren't so "concrete" looking. All of the rocks I have done, the bark method, I've drybrushed like you have then added a brown wash to look them a little more natural. Also you might try the scoopable cat litter. Add some dabs of glue in various spots on your rocks then sprinkle the litter on the glue, let dry then paint it green like moss then a brown wash to add a little texture to it. Just a thought.....

Very nice terrain, shame about the spelling and grammar though, it lets it down .

    Great work.
