Thread: Death Guard Army for FSA

Re: Death Guard Army for FSA

I might suggest removing the nid arms. With all the extra bits you've put in there it's almost looking more infested by some nid creature than overgrown by nurgle and I think it's the arms that are causing it.

The look I was going for was Daemonic Possesion, it looks like this creature is jumping out the front of it.. it's just at the moment they look too like tyranid arms.. they need the second part of the claw and the skin and pustules put in. one it has skin stretching from them to the hole it will look less like they are stuck on.

Re: Death Guard Army for FSA

It's been a really great day for me.. A friend came over because I had a Scorpion Tank he wanter... He had with him enough classic CSM to make up more than 2 more CSM retinues.. He also had 4 classic Heresy style Dreadnoughts, I'm really looking forward to chopping them up and reposing them, I love all the pictures of the Death Guard Dreads in the Horus Heresy Artbooks.

Then another mate rang me up and said he was popping over.. He had a load of FW 40k Death Guard to swap for some Tau I had as he wanted to get into AI... I've always wanted a FW Death Guard Army.... Not only that but he has half a metric tonne of Nurglings, so I can get the Trish Morissen ones I need to make up the rest of my Defilers..

Finished my big smelly Great Unclean one.. It's a shame you can only have one of them in the army. because he's so cute and cuddly.

    RAAAAAAAAARGH.... STOMP STOMP STOMP..

I can also finally retire the GUO I painted back when I was 10..

Thanks for all the kind words. Warmaster, I would be fine with getting some photos done for you.

Been getting a prototype together for my Predators, the standard marine versions felt far to streamlined especially the turrets. So I decided to go for something far more antiquated.

I think it looks like it does a similar job with the twin linked lascannon and the 2 smaller pivot machine guns, but looks far more steampunk and knocked together.. still will have to put on the individual greenstuff as I've done with all my tanks spines, pustules, giant maggots etc, but I think they make a nice base to work off.

    Also finished my big boy

Re: Death Guard Army for FSA

Managed to finish another 4 Plague Bearer stands which takes me up to 10 which should be enough for most 3k armies. They don't 100% match the original 6, but I don't think it's that noticable, or to be honest matters as they are Daemons... As I've had out my original ones, I noticed that the slime on them didn't look quite right.. they were one of the first few models I painted when I started up again with Nurgle and the slime looked very 2D so I've put on another couple of layers of slightly tinted water effect.

I've started working on my first 3 Chaos Spawn, as they are 1 a coven in the LatD list 3 might well be enough.. Though I might well do another 2 as some point as they are fun.

Also I managed to find 3 more Hellblades... YAY, didn't even know I had them.

Finished the construction on the Vindicators, they came out so much better than I though they would. I was originally going to mount the gun lower, but it looked too much like a pancake. Mounting it higher allowed me to build up the housing which gave me more room for chaos detailing.

Re: Death Guard Army for FSA

I love the Ragnarok chasis, I'm currently trying to get the 6 predators I'm doing greenstuffed at the moment, and they will be on the Ragnarok chasis too, they are just so much more steampunk looking which I think fits Nurgle. I'm really tempted to make up some trucks with big fat Virus missiles on them, I can use them as Deathstrikes when I run as guard, and if I do make Nurgle Trench list I will probably be putting in a one shot Viral Missile in it.

Finished the work on my Spawn, Though they are very different models I wanted to keep the colour scheme similar though not identical, there is much more pink on them than in the rest of the army. I felt this would tie them together as the same unit type without being too uniform.

I wish I had the time you do to paint. I'm sorely tempted to just take a day off and devote it totally to painting stuff. I think I could get quite a few projects finished that way

I'm also curious as to if you are working up the color primarily with washes and the going back in with a fine brush to hit some of the highlights before toning it all back down with the wash and water effect or you're blending everything by hand.

base colour, (sometimes hi-ighted), Wash, re-paint with base, then hi-light up.. then wash, sometimes with a final hi-light... it all depends... I will carry on washing, highlighting till it looks right.

Right got the 'Vindicators' finished. next thing to work on all the predators. At some point I'm going to have to get everything out and take a photo as I'm sure stuff is mounting up and it will be a much bigger army than I think it is.

Re: Death Guard Army for FSA

Hmmm... these look pretty good but I think the cannon turned out a bit muddy and it's making it hard to figure out some of the details on it. Perhaps a bit more highlighting on the muzzle or along the top of the barrel to break some the details out a bit more and add definition?

Re: Death Guard Army for FSA

I know what you mean.. They are highlighted up to Mithril so they can't really go much higher but against the white it looks very dark. It looks OK in the flesh but doesn't photo as well..

Re: Death Guard Army for FSA

Yeah, I've had troubles with photographing metals in the past as well. Sometimes you can cheat though and and a touch of skull white into the mithril or as a final edge highlight so you keep definition even when the light doesn't quite strike it to get the bright edge.

Re: Death Guard Army for FSA

Finished all the conversion work on the Predators, finally... They took SO long as I had to cast all the turrets. But they are all done now.. Also started adding stowage to 4 Land Raiders and 6 Rhinos. One thing I've noticed is how much bigger the Predator and Vindicator chasis are compared to the Rhinos, but I don't think it's a problem, they are far better armoured than their Rhino buddies.
