    Lyinar's Blood Angels

I'm starting a Blood Angels army, and I'm pretty much done with my first model, an autocannon Dreadnought I converted from the Black Reach dreadnought, the quad autocannon from the Planetstrike wall set, and Chaos smoke launchers and searchlight. All that's left to it is weathering, should I do any, and basing it properly.

Sorry about the picture quality. iPhones don't have the best built-in camera, and I didn't have my good camera with me.

    Unpainted

Nice shooty Dread mate, he looks good. Very neat painting and I think the Chapter Symbol on the chest plate looks great.

Can we get another picture when you get your good camera at hand?

    Nice work.

    Re: Lyinar's Blood Angels

I shall indeed take more pictures with my good camera when I get a chance.

I'm looking to use one of the two Space Hulk sergeants as a Captain, and the other leading a squad of Terminators. Which one does which is still up in the air, depending on which kind of squad I take. I'm a little worried about how inadequate the otherwise-awesome standard Terminator kits look next to the Space Hulk minis, but FW shoulderpads should help with that.

I've started painting the Librarian, but didn't have a chance to do too much on him yet.

great work on the dread and i agree that better pics are a must when you get that good camera in your hands.

the SH Termies should make for great captains. and that extra bling, pose, and everything else will set them apart from the other termies in a positive way as it will make them stand out as being a bit 'above and beyond' those that they lead.

    hope to see more soon

I like the Dread, the auto cannons are done nicely.

    Re: Lyinar's Blood Angels

I've had a bit of inspiration... One of my next models is going to be a Sanguinary Priest, and I am going to commit an act of horrible blasphemy against my Space Hulk set to do it.

I'm going to take a Standard Bearer arm, chop the standard pole off at either end of his hand, and chop up the grail from the Space Hulk set to go in its place. Add in Apothecary bitz and maybe a greenstuff blood drop (or possibly a decorative grail) in place of the skull on the chestplate, and it should look good.

    Re: Lyinar's Blood Angels

Okay, I've taken pictures of my Dreadnought and my unpainted Sanguinary Priest on my good camera. Only problem is that I've lost the cable for it, and while my laptop will technically read a Sony Memory Stick, I need tweezers to get the gorram thing back out. So, I shall post those pictures after I get a USB card reader.

Meanwhile, a preview picture of my Sanguinary Priest conversion, taken with my iPhone:

I took the grail charm hanging down from the Thunderhammer power cable on the TH/SS Sergeant from Space Hulk and affixed it in place of the skull on the normal apothecary chest. I was worried about it breaking off anyway, so no big loss from that model.

The helmet is one of the ones from the new Venerable Dreadnought kit. Picked it instead of the normal Apothecary helmet to emphasize the different role Sanguinary Priests have from standard Apothecaries.

I find that the iphone can't take good photos unless you're outside. good looking dread. I think that the autocannons stick out a bit to much from the torso. If you did a little cutting I think they would look a lot more natural

    Re: Lyinar's Blood Angels

I've found that my iPhone just can't really take pictures of small stuff to begin with... If you try to take a picture of something small close enough to actually see it, it focuses on everything in the background instead.

I'm likely going to reposition the light and camera on the Sanguinary Priest's backpack so they're looking where he is... Not up to trying to paint lighting effects over metals, so I'll have the spotlight off (after all, he only really needs the thing on when trying to do battlefield surgery on someone).

High Quality shots, of my Mortis Dreadnought:

And my unpainted Sanguinary Priest, who is at this moment, about half-painted.

And I have just now ordered the weaponry that will serve my Librarian and Death Company Dreadnoughts. ^_^

Very nice and simple conversion on the priest. Makes me sad to think I just cut off the little grail symbol from my termie and chucked it, especially since now Im doing a BA successor chapter...DOH!!

    Re: Lyinar's Blood Angels

I've nearly finished painting the Sanguinary Priest. Only need to do a little bit more highlighting and shading, some touching up in a few places, the wings for the blood drop I've painted on his shoulderpad, and painting the cables, armour joints, spotlight lens, and medicine vials.

I've painted up the grail, and it looks pretty awesome, but I'm looking to put some water effects inside it and cover that with a few layers of Red Ink when it finishes drying. Not sure it will look right, though..

Here is my Sanguinary Priest just after I put the water effects in his grail. Will post a better picture tonight, after the water effects and red ink have dried.

Here is my Blood Angels Librarian. I've painted him more chapter-coloured and less specialty-coloured, just because of personal preference.

    Re: Lyinar's Blood Angels

I have the Space Hulk Terminator who will probably end up as a Captain about 2/3 of the way done.

Still need to do highlighting and shading everywhere but his face, which is fully done, but I've got the basecoat on his armour, weapons, and cloak done, and I have him based.

    Re: Lyinar's Blood Angels

Didn't get any painting done yesterday due to allergies and allergy medicines. Stupid fething trees.

Likely going to get the Ironclad I'll be converting into my Death Company Dreadnought at some point this week. Then I'll just need to wait for my Forge World order to get in.

Going to be making my Furioso Librarian using an old Mark IV Venerable that I've had kicking around for a while and which last saw service as a Venerable Dreadnought in my old Black Templars army. Likely going to end up reposing it to look more dynamic (its original role was anti-tank, so I had it posed pretty statically with a lascannon arm). I'll be using the Grey Knight Nemesis arm as the Force Weapon, and a right-hand DCCW arm fitted with the stubby-grabber-thing leftover from my GW plastic Venerable Dreadnought kit as the Blood Fist.

The leftover claws from the Forgeworld DCCWs are both going to be grafted onto the Ironclad DCCW arms for my Death Company Dreadnought's Blood Talons.

While my shooty Dreadnoughts won't be weathered much (mostly on their feet), and my Furioso Librarian will only be slightly weathered, the Death Company Dreadnought is going to be massively weathered, battle-damaged, and blood-splattered, like it just strode out of combat with a squad that it annihilated.
